The BNP is standing a record 880 candidates in the May local elections. This figure is made up of:
- 746 in district and borough council elections
- 7 in Scottish council elections
- 32 in the Scottish Assembly elections (regional lists)
- 20 in the Welsh Assembly elections (regional lists)
- 75 in town and parish council elections.
This is a massive increase over the 363 candidates in 2006 and the 221 who stood in 2004. In 1997, when Labour came into power, the BNP could only muster 53 candidates.
The district and borough council candidates can be found by clicking the relevant local authority area on our map.
Searchlight has produced a glossy hardhitting leaflet to counter the BNP. Click here to view the leaflet or to place an order.
Most of the BNP candidates will be paper candidates and will do little or no campaigning. However we will see a concerted effort in their target areas. To help us determine the threat posed by the BNP in each ward we need your help. It will be evident from the quality and quantity of BNP literature being distributed which wards they believe they could win, so please notify us of any BNP activity, send us copies of leaflets and let us know of any particular local issues that might make a previous safe ward vulnerable to the BNP.
Send us a message here about particular wards you think are under threat and we will see how we can help.
Over the next week Searchlight will announce a number of initiatives to help turn out the anti-BNP vote on election day. Whatever your circumstances, wherever you live, there will be something you can do to help.
TOGETHER WE CAN BEAT THE BNP
Hope not hate
