Anger as BNP targets town with racist video

Local politicians have slammed a disturbing British National Party (BNP) video that is using Horley as a focal point to win support.

The notorious far-right party has been blasted for "frightening people with factually incorrect information" by posting a four-minute film on video sharing site YouTube. They say it exploits serious issues surrounding the Horley Master Plan in an attempt to justify its bigoted policies, with the film itself featuring shocking racist terminology. And Councillor Mike Miller, ward councillor for Horley West, condemned the video as "a load of rubbish".

He disputed the party's claims that 1,500 homes would be constructed in the northwest sector of the plan, and 1,100 homes in the north-east sector. Mr Miller said the actual figures are 1,400 and 700 respectively, with an additional 500 homes to be built on brownfield sites within Horley. And he added the party's views on race were "best ignored".

A BNP activist unashamedly uses the phrase "white-flight" in the film, an inflammatory term used to describe the migration of Caucasians from multi-ethnic inner-city areas.

Mr Miller said: "I'm not in favour of right-wing parties like them. They want to eradicate anything but the English and we don't live in that sort of world and that sort of society."

Town councillor Mike George condemned the BNP, led by Nick Griffin, for "mischief-making" and playing the "race card". He said: "The Master Plan is controversial on the issues of planning and flooding. The race card has not entered into any of the discussions that we have had. It's purely speculation on their part as to who are going to fill the houses."

And Mr George, chairman of the Court Lodge Residents' Association, also accused the party of political opportunism. He said: "They are a bit late in the day. The plan has now been fully discussed, it has been consulted on, so it is a bit late for them to say this is an issue they are concerned about. I would say: 'Why now, and why Horley?'."

Mr George's accusations of opportunism appear justified, with the BNP only now adopting the pretence of concern about building on floodplain and green-belt land, despite the Master Plan having been in the pipeline since 1994. Instead, the film provides a disturbing insight into the party's bigotry, with activist Steve Horne claiming much of the development in Horley will house so-called "white-flight".

He says: "Undoubtedly some of the people in Horley will live here,or move here. But I believe most of the people who are going to live here will come from London, what's known as white flight - people that aren't happy with what's going on in London at the moment and want to escape to the countryside. It's towns like Horley that have to suffer this in the long term."

When consulted about the video, Simon Darby, press officer for the BNP,was disarmingly honest about the party's racist stance, saying that "people liked to live among themselves". He said: "With more and more people coming in and more and more people wanting to get out and live in semi-sub-urban areas, there's really no escape from liberal multi-culturalism. Whereas people used to think they could live in a nice area and send their children to a predominantly white school, that sadly is no longer the case."

  2. Perhaps the BNP would like to answer this then if it is indeed "white-flight". Why is it that areas within London where there are large populations of people of ethnic orgin, are we having increasing numbers of "indiginous" people moving in if indeed these areas are "multi-cultaral nightmares"?? By these areas I would mean places such as Balham, Stratford, Clapham, Streatham to name but a few?! Seriously - BNP are FULL OF SHIT!!

A fine example of the intelligence of the average nazi.

  4. Thanks for the spam post about Ketlan, you childish nazi who rants and raves about foreigners yet cannot speak English. Sounds like you've a serious mental problem that needs to be addressed by your GP. Shame doctors don't work Sundays to sedate paranoid Hitler worshippers...

  5. Hey, Pat Richardson, leading BNP bigwigs like the Cromies from Queensbury are preparing to throw their weight behind the biggest anti-Semite on the planet.

You can't pretend the BNP isn't prejudiced against Jewish people, Pat, when they have arranged a Halifax neo-nazi meeting featuring the Holocaust Denier-In-Chief the legally-confirmed lying scumbag Irving.

    The silence is deafening, Pat!!!

  6. did someones finger get stuck on a key.

i fully support the idea of no censorship, and we do have so show the prats up for what they are but there are degrees, and this one may have gone a little too far.

  7. people moving into Balham and Streatham? As a South Londoner I can tell you that there are a few (very few) select places to live round there where people do move in, mostly 'gated communities' with very high security. There are also people who cannot afford to live elsewhere, due to the high property prices, and so are forced to move into areas which they most certainly do not want to live in.

The number of native British who choose to move to these areas (outside of the elite protected estates) when they have a choice between, say, Stoke Newington and Bromley, could probably be numbered on a single hand, even Captain Hook's!

Clapham, by the way, is a very divided area. Slums and housing estates, overwhelmingly dominated by ethnic communities, and some very expensive, and mostly white, private homes around the common.

Come on now, if you are going to try to make what passes for an intelligent comment and contribution to debate, at least write something which has a nodding relationship with the truth!

  8. As a South Londoner I can tell you that my mother (Jewish) chose to live in Streatham with a Muslim family on one side and a Rastafarian family on the other, and I was perfectly happy living there for all the years I did. She still lives there. Not everyone has a problem with living in racially-mixed communities.

And I think you'll find most of those large houses around Clapham Common are houses divided into flats.

Maybe, but it's necessary for us to show people some of the more lunatic postings we get so visitors are aware of what we are fighting against. It's just a pity I can't post a recording of my most recent obscene nazi phone call here too.

  11. Sorry to hear about the phone call, ive had them myself and the tyre slashing, your right its not nice, its just that im encouraging my grandchildren to read this site so that they learn right from wrong and the 1st post was a bit in your face.

in future i will have to be selective whilst still encouraging them to take part.

and for the prat who is going on about south london and gated communities etc, the last native Britain disappeared from this land many centuries ago along with the wode.

Presumably the first line of the offending post was aimed at me.

I would have allowed it for exactly the reason Antifascist allowed it. It's an example, as somebody commented, of them coming here to commit suicide.

As to "censorship", this is a matter of opinion. In the last analysis the LUAF blog does not exist to provide a platform for racist ravings, and over the weekend I have zapped several long tracts that seemed to be cut and pasted from elsewhere.

Personally, I believe in No Platform, period, but the LUAF blog operates a more liberal policy in that regard, though within limits.

There is something I'm still attempting to comprehend - why does the Nutzi suppose that the BNP wants to make everybody "Rick"?

Really?? Well you obviously don't spend much time in South London - I'm South London born, bred and proud and i know these areas like the back of my hand. "Gated communities"?? - complete bollocks - they live side by side with blacks, asians and eastern europeans.

I know that first hand because I see them every day. I suggest that if you wamt to engage in debate with me that you bother to get up of your sticky matress, cash that dole check in and get yourself a bus ticket and actually associate yourself with the facts first hand!

    Who cares?

'its just that im encouraging my grandchildren to read this site so that they learn right from wrong and the 1st post was a bit in your face.'

Fair comment and I do see your point. We'll keep the more offensive posts to a minimum. It's always difficult to know where to draw the line and frankly it often wavers too far one way or the other. We'll keep an eye on the situation and edit the worst offenders when and where possible.

  16. I think the first post was over the top but I can see why Ketlan let it through.

I'm stuck netween Denise's "no platform" and sometimes wanting to see what the knuckledraggers post but it's not a question of free speech. A blog is like a newspaper with a letters page and the editor chooses what's published.

Posts by knuckledraggers take attention away from the article being discussed, which is what has happened here. I think they should be kept to a minimum and only then if they're on course.
