Sophie Scholl - The Final Days

Sophie Scholl - The Final Days sneaks almost unheralded into the Channel 4 schedule on Monday night (or Tuesday morning, if you want to be pedantic). One of a sequence of important modern German films dealing with its Nazi past, Sophie Scholl - The Final Days tells the tragic but ennobling story of The White Rose, a small anti-Nazi resistance group founded in Munich at the height of the Second World War. The film premiers on Channel 4 after midnight Monday November 5th at 00:30.

Synopsis:

In 1943, as Hitler continues to wage war across Europe, a group of college students mount an underground resistance movement in Munich. Dedicated expressly to the downfall of the monolithic Third Reich war machine, they call themselves the White Rose. One of its few female members, Sophie Scholl is captured during a dangerous mission to distribute pamphlets on campus with her brother Hans. Unwavering in her convictions and loyalty to the White Rose, her cross-examination by the Gestapo quickly escalates into a searing test of wills as Scholl delivers a passionate call to freedom and personal responsibility that is both haunting and timeless.

  1. You should see this film. I hope none of the terror is lost by being shown on the small screen. Heroes and heroines we should remember forever.

  2. I'm looking forward to this. Shame on C4 though for the late night showing. I can't find any write up about it except the same post as this on Denise's blog though.

  3. Just watched this excellent thought provoking film.

    A must for all anti-fascists.

If ever anyone was in doubt about why
people like Lancaster UAF,Voice of Reason and Kirklees Unity along with Searchlight do what they do,this film should make it crystal clear.

Sophie Scholl was brutally executed along with her brother for nothing more than having a conscience.

Modern day fascists like Griffin and Hollywood Nazis like Watmough and Pissant Morrison claim to be the real democrats, but their version of democracy is based on fear, hatred and intimidation.

Right up to the bitter end the Scholls refused to repent for their alleged crimes.

Heroes to the end, long live "The White Rose"
