Breaking news: Two charged with leaking BNP membership list

It's that BNP membership list again...
Two people have been charged under the Data Protection Act after a British National Party membership list was leaked on the internet, police said today.

Dyfed-Powys Police said the two people were arrested as part of a joint investigation with the Information Commissioner's Office. They are due to appear in Nottingham Magistrates Court on September 1.

The far-right BNP called for a police investigation last November after the names, addresses and contact details of some 10,000 of its members were published online.

Dyfed-Powys Police said the pair were arrested under the Data Protection Act as part of a joint investigation with the Information Commissioner's Office. They are due to appear in Nottingham Magistrates Court on September 1.

The far-right BNP called for a police investigation last November after the names, addresses and contact details of some 10,000 of its members were published online. Party leader Nick Griffin lodged a complaint with Dyfed-Powys, his local force, on the grounds that publishing the list breached human rights and data protection laws. He described the publication as "a disgraceful act of treachery" by former BNP staff members who were subsequently sacked.

At the time the BNP said the leak was based on its 2007 membership list. It featured details of some members' jobs and was reported to include serving and former police officers, as well as members of the armed forces.

In a statement, Dyfed-Powys Police said: "We can confirm that the two people arrested in relation to alleged criminal offences under the Data Protection Act have been charged with Section 55 Data Protection Act offences. The arrests followed an investigation into a complaint received about the unauthorised release of the BNP party membership list."

  7. So Griffin will do all he can to have these silly bastards done and jailed and he won't give a fuck about their kid or their future. If he hadn't treated them like utter shite in the first place, none of this would have happened. Not that I believe it was them anyway - I think it was Griffin himself.

  8. The evidence in court is mostly going to be around the fact that the list is on their computers and they were connected to the Blogger page it appeared on, in that they could sign in. If I was them, I would deny everything. Griffin's henchmen - Reynold's and Kemp among them - snatched the computers back and could have done ANYTHING with them. Even changing the dates of files is easy. This whole thing stinks and just for once I'm on the side of Sadie and Matt.

A man and a woman have been charged under the Data Protection Act after a British National Party membership list was leaked onto the internet, police said today.

Dyfed-Powys Police said the man, aged 27, and woman, aged 30, were due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates Court on 1 September.

The woman is understood to be Sadie Graham, who was expelled from the far-right party in late 2007 after falling out with its leadership.

The BNP called for a police investigation last November after the names, addresses and contact details of some 10,000 of its members were published online.

Party leader Nick Griffin lodged a complaint with Dyfed-Powys, his local force, on the grounds that publishing the list breached human rights and data protection laws.

He described the publication as "a disgraceful act of treachery" by former BNP staff members who were subsequently sacked.

At the time the BNP said the leak was based on its 2007 membership list, although a number of names of people who were not members had been added.

The list, which included details of some members' jobs, was reported to include serving and former police officers as well as members of the armed forces.

In a statement, Dyfed-Powys Police said: "We can confirm that the two people arrested as part of a joint investigation with Dyfed-Powys Police and the Information Commissioner's Office in relation to alleged criminal offences under the Data Protection Act have been charged with Section 55 Data Protection Act offences.

"They will appear in Nottingham Magistrates Court on 1 September.

  36. The man mentioned in these reports is 27. Matt Single is 36 according to an older report I read.

Anyone know who it is yet? Collett?

    ReplyDelete
  37. They never DID have 10000 members, let alone 13000. As a matter of fact, I'd say it's a safe wager that annual paid-up membership never exceeded 2600 at any point in the last decade.
Griffin has become somewhat of a master at making the B.N.P. look much larger than it really is, and when this list was leaked he exploited it for all it was worth. This was no 'membership list' at all, although many current members from back then were certainly listed on it.
The trouble is that so too were many lapsed members, stretching back at least 9 years. The number of people who have joined, or expressed a vague interest in the B.N.P., easily exceed the numbers of 'paid-up members'. I have it on good authority that anyone who requested more information on the B.N.P. via the website or a city center stall would likely be listed amongst the 13000 on this list.
Not only that, the list appeared to include people who had only purchased items from B.N.P. affiliated websites, and even those who had signed B.N.P. or Nationalist-oriented/Hang 'em and flog 'em type digital petitions on various websites.
This list appears to be little more than a list of 'hopefulls' who were contacted through email or snail mail at regular intervals by the B.N.P. with requests for donations.
So when all things are considered, this list looks like it all boils down to the good old pounds, shillings and pence -- and nobody here or in ex-nationalist circles should be surprised about that!!

And Griffin - a hermit's life in Croatia beckons!!!

  78. I'm puzzled. If there's a Data Protection prosecution justified surely it's against the BNP for maintaining (insecurely) a list which includes non-members, and details of people which go beyond the "need to know"?

If I join a political party I will probably accept their right to hold my details on file (name, address, possibly age, etc.).

I'm very unlikely to allow them details of my occupation or character - yet the BNP seems to have accumulated such data.

Any legal experts care to comment?

  79. Iliacus has a point. The BNP was gathering a LOT of information about people and lost it - how it was lost doesn't really matter. Surely there's someone in the party who has sympathy with the rebels who is prepared to take this further or are they all gutless?

It has been suggested here that Graham and Single have been remanded in custody. If that had been so, their first appearance in the Magistrates' Court, where they could make a bail application, would be much sooner than 1 September.

I really don't think they know. In one set of accounts a couple of years ago they had two different numbers around the 5500-6000 mark.
People on stormfront are claiming they are above 15000 and pushing 20000 but they would.
The party as a whole spent so much on the Euro elections and raided every cookie jar to get money for that campaign that they are pretty much destitute. £5000 quid deposit and they lost a few and now they can barely fight in local council campaigns, even where they have active groups.
There were four local by-elections on Thursday around the country and they stood in one and came last in Blackpool.
Every by-election they have stood in since June their vote has fallen in comparison to previous results and the ones without comparable data have not been good.
They were lucky to get two MEPs elected, there were not that many votes involved and this is a time where you would expect them to be thriving.
Their accounts are late yet again, their massive party to showcase their breakthrough into mainstream politics had 600 people there including kids and day tickets over a weekend and hopefully the Decemberists or poor Matt&Sadie are going to come out fighting and turn it into a prolonged shitty war between the two sides.
I'm going to sit in a deckchair and offer the popcorn around and hopefully watch something destructive to both sides.

  92. I've always thought of this Chris Hill creep as a bit of a funny character. Still a member of the BNP and hence a shit but really nothing worse than a pompous idiot. Following a post of his on a nationalist site yesterday though, I've changed my mind. He did the same thing he did here, issued a warning about the case being sub judice but ended his warning with this bollocks

"If Matt and Sadie are guilty then Ali is my lord and master, and I'll let the Prophet Mohamed (all curses to his paedophilic carcass) have his evil way with me."

    Scum.

  93. If Chris (Fanny) Hill wants to be abused by real peadophiles, he ought to bend down and spread his legs in a bedroom at the New Kimberley.

He wines on like a little girl at times so the likes of Collett and Hannam could always fantasise he is one, lol

I've just noticed, Fanny Hill's picture is of himself as a little child. Kind of goes well with the child abuse fantasies thing, lol.

  95. Collett's paedophilic carcus would quite happily give him one!

  96. The fact that his profile photo is of himself as a little boy says a lot about Chris Hill's sordid fantasies, lol

  97. Not to be forgotten also is the matter of the High Court injunction the Party managed to secure with regards publication of members details. After they released the members lists, so i have been informed that the crown prosection will take this to crown court! And they could get several years in JAIL. lol

  98. If the BNP secure a conviction, does that mean that every member will be able to use the same argument against the BNP for losing their data to claim their £5k?

  99. 2 Will go into 1 ask Matt and Sadie
I know my maths Chris Hill .

  100. It will also be interesting if Cyclops or one of his chums is asked, under oath, if the membership details are accurate ?

1/. If yes then a few plods, DWP
staff and service personel will be jobless !

2/. If not perhaps the data registrar will be looking at the BNP Data Registration !

PS Graham and chums are not heros. Thay wanted to improve the organisation Of Thr British Nonces Party.

The best result would be for them to go down, and the Nutzies fail to recover costs, and fail to pay thier brief and solicitors.
