A 25-year-old man from Rugeley has been arrested after a bomb threat was made against Birmingham Central Mosque on Facebook.
West Midlands Police said they received a number of calls from concerned members of the public in relation to the threat on Sunday night.
A thorough search of the mosque was carried out by officers and specialist search dogs trained to search for explosives. Nothing out of the ordinary was found in the building, police said.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "At around 5:15am today (Monday) a warrant was executed at an address in Rugeley, Staffordshire and a 25-year-old man was arrested. He remains in custody this afternoon where he continues to help police with their enquiries."
Detective Inspector Nigel Harrison, who is leading the investigation, added: "We are grateful to the mosque for their cooperation with this ongoing enquiry and I would like to reassure the community that we are taking this incident extremely seriously."

It will be unimaginable if he is not jailed for a few years for this racist bomb threat.
ReplyDeleteThrow the book at the EDL scumbag!
ReplyDeleteMost definately, if this had been an Asian man posting a bomb threat to blow up an army barracks, this terrorism story would have been on the front cover of every newspaper, and the arrest would have got a mention on BBC1, BBc Five Live, ITN and Sky News.
ReplyDeleteInstead, what do we get, as the suspect is not Muslim?
NADA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Islamophobic mainstream press sux!
The get-out clase Mental Illness card is being played by Jeff Marsh on his Casuals United blog, who labels the terrorist "bipolar" and "influenced by Jeremy Kyle" and claims be is nothing to do with the EDL.
ReplyDeleteWhatever he is or is not, shit sticks, Marsh you twatface neo-Nazi idiot.

I agree!
There is one-sided reporting of cases involving black or Asian people with pure unaccidental regards to racial profiling.
The girl-gang attack with Muslim girls in Leicester would not have been reported of the people who did it were not of a darker skin for instance.
Right wing media is evil!
It was funny watching it unfold last night and the idiot claiming that he had been hacked. West Mids Police have arrested a 2nd man in connection.
ReplyDeleteWell played to Everything EDL or Expose or EDL News or whoever broke the story first.
DETECTIVES investigating an online bomb threat have this evening arrested a second man.
The 20-year-old was arrested at his home in Walsall at around 8.45pm in connection with two separate online threats made against a local temple and a second unspecified target.
The man is being held at a police station in the West Midlands and will be interviewed by detectives from the Force Criminal Investigation Department later this evening.
Officers do not believe this and the threat made against Birmingham Central Mosque last night (Sunday 11 December) are connected, but are treating both incidents extremely seriously.
Detective Inspector Nigel Harrison, who is leading the investigation, said: "We acknowledge that these threats have caused some members of the public a great deal of concern.
"Our officers have worked to quickly discredit the threats posted online and arrest those believed to be involved.
"I would like to reassure the public that incidents such as these are treated extremely seriously and investigated thoroughly."
The 25-year-old man arrested in Rugeley, Staffordshire, earlier this morning in connection with the Birmingham Central Mosque threat has now been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
The BBC National News didn't mention this story at all.
ReplyDeleteFor fuck's sake, like BBC. Don't fo the far right's work for them by selective reporting of Black and Asian people as public enemy number one.

Sooner or later the EDL will be officially wound-up by Stephen Caxley-Lemon who will call himself only a BFP and not an EDL member.
ReplyDeleteThis will happen before Christmas at this rate.
So many members in the clink, the EDL can now only be regarded as a criminal gang and not a serious political party.

Hope he gets a long jail sentence!
ReplyDeleteWhat has been interesting over the last few months (since Norway) is that the Police are treating this sort of incident much more seriously and they seem happier to use Facebook as evidence since the riots.
ReplyDeleteFacebook is now one of the major forms of communication and for all its good in the terms of communication you have to remember that nothing is ever deleted. You can deactivate an account but go and have a look at how hard it is to delete.
Shit report but the BBC have finally noticed
ReplyDeletehttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-16142905
Sooner or later it's going to occur to the EDL's grassroots members that they're not immune from the law the way Yaxley-Lennon is with his "connections" and that if they threaten terrorist acts, they WILL get dealt with as terrorists.
ReplyDeleteIn fact I know some of them troll this place so I'll put it in language they can understand:
M8 ur bein takn for propr cunts innit tommy is state innit when ur fretenin muzzis ur doin wat state wants u doin innit fink bout that fact
Fancy some prison food, EDLers?
ReplyDeleteFunny how he pretended that his facebook account had been hacked, as if facebook has forgotten to log all IP addresses.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see the racist death threats made on Google Video / YouTube subject to the same scrutiny.
There's literally millions of EDL/BNP?NF/Combat 18 death threats on there which could fill the prisons with lowlife fascist scum.
Can't the police get access to IP addresses of the neo-nazis who use Goodle's Video Sites, John?
All these young lives ruined and racists thrown in jail all because of Stephen Caxley-Lemon and his ego trip.
ReplyDeleteYes, Caxley will never be sentenced to jail no matter what crimes he commits, however his impressionable cohorts are expendible like those extras in the original episodes of Star Trek who died in every episode while Kirk, McCoy and Spock always had nine fucking lives!
Yaxley's a fucking coward, always getting other people to do the dirty work for him.
ReplyDeleteRacist EDL bastards like this pretend to be upholding Christian values but actually by promoting racial and religious hatred are contradicting everything that Jesus preached about love, peace and respect.
ReplyDeleteThe EDL neonazis will be burning in the fires of hell when they die just like their idol Adolf Hitler, who will be waiting for them with such glee!

In the case of @wearethebrits though, who has made many statements that constitute incitement, a prison cell would probably be an upgrade on his council flat in Easterhouse...
