BNP leader Nick Griffin banned by Buckingham Palace

BNP leader Nick Griffin will be denied entry to a garden party at Buckingham Palace "due to the fact he has overtly used his personal invitation for party political purpose through the media".

In a statement Buckingham Palace said: "This in turn has increased the security threat and the potential discomfort to the many other guests also attending."

Mr Griffin's personal invitation to the garden party on Thursday was issued to him as an elected member of the European Parliament. The palace statement said: "The decision to deny entry is not intended to show any disrespect to the democratic process by which the invitation was issued. However, we would apply the same rules to anyone who tried to blatantly politicise their attendance in this way."

The BNP leader was set to attend last year as a guest of a BNP London assembly member but pulled out after an outcry. In an e-mail to supporters sent on Wednesday, Mr Griffin said he would be representing "a million British patriots who vote for this party".

"This event shows just how far this party has come in the last few years but I won't be at the Palace for myself or my family. No! I will be there to represent the patriots who made this possible; I'll be there for you."

He asked them to suggest what he should say to the Queen if they spoke at the event.

He was set to attend the party with wife Jackie and fellow BNP MEP Andrew Brons. It is not clear whether Mr Brons will attend. The BNP leader was expected to be among the 8,000 guests at the event which will be hosted by the Queen and also attended by the Duke of Edinburgh.

Other members of the Royal Family who will be mingling on the Palace's lawns include the Duke of York, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and the Duke of Kent.

  1. The oafish Griffin was gloating about attending on a boastful article on the BNP website, and he was inviting suggestions from BNP members for questions to put to the Queen, a most inappropriate suggestion.
One can imagine earnest BNP supporters licking the ends of their pencils and laboriously writing out questions for Griffin to "ask the Queen" - as if he ever had the intention of really asking, let alone the opportunity.
No opportunity now at all, of course.

  4. I hear the real reason is that Griffin was planning to use the garden party to meet some American geezer who was interested in buying Buck House and Griffin could help "facilitate" the sale as he is so well connected with HM. He might be well connected with HMR&C or even HMP soon enough..........

    The man is a buffoon.

All these pressures must be really expensive so, time for a begging letter perhaps?

  7. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Good flippin' riddance... Griffin tried to turn this one into an opportunity to jostle his way back into the headlines, and successfully did so, just in time to give maximum publicity to his rejection and humiliation by Buckingham Palace

The wording of the Buck House statement is very interesting - they say they intended "no disrespect to..." and just when you think they're going to say "Nick Griffin" what they actually said was "... the democratic process", subtly indicating they actually DO disrespect this disgusting louse

Now Cyclops has been actively snubbed by the Queen maybe the penny will finally drop with the small hardcore of Monarchists and Empire Loyalist types who hang on to the BNP because today's Tories just aren't like what they were in Enoch's day

As for the "million British patriots who vote for this party", as we all know that's now down to 640,000

I honestly wonder, at times, if we simple Anti - Fascists can ever hope to win the fight in the face of such powerful intellect.

  9. Not that I particularly care about the Royals and the Establishment that surround them but the Palace was correct to withdraw the invitation. Griffin was gloating about the fact that he had been invited and using it to puff up his fragile leadership stating things like, "it shows how far we've come". He was using his invitation in the leadership contest.

What is concerning is that no mention, in the mainstream reporting of this, of the fact that he's embroiled in a bitter internal leadership struggle.

  10. It reall doesn't to anyone because no one likes him in the party anyway. Everyone likes Andrew Brons though.

Well Denis, given your comment above, winning might be somewhat of a challenge.

    I doubt it.

This was a huge mistake. We, Searchlight and HNH, and other anti-fascist outlets downplayed Griffin's invitation after reporting the fact. No demonstrations or campaigns were planned, as I think everybody realised we would never get the invitation cancelled (the Palace can't be seen to submit to outside pressure) and all we would do is generate publicity for Griffin at a time when he is most desperate to have it.

So, basically, let him sneak in and out of the palace, have his jam sandwiches, and go home to crow about it on the BNP website. Few beyond ourselves and the BNP would have known or cared.

Instead of that, Griffin has been handed a priceless publicity opportunity, one that will be used to enhance his position viz the leadership challenge, and one which may well kick-start the jaded membership into donating again - particularly the inactive majority who know little of the chaotic state of the party.

So I'm sorry, but I see nothing for us to crow about here. Handing Griffin and the BNP this amount of unexpected publicity is no victory for us.

  14. I have to respectfully disagree with Denise here. The "all publicity is good publicity" hypothesis was conclusively disproven by the Question Time affair (no the BBC should never have let him on, but they did, and that - among other factors - helped Griffin lose over 400,000 votes), and Griffin being barred by Buck House does not make Griffin look good at all. As for the leadership challenge, much as I hope that contest will divide and damage the BNP, a BNP led by someone with Nick Griffin's track record for Holocaust Denial etc is much easier to fight than a party led by a relative unknown.

Denise's comment about Griffin sneaking in and out is just naive - there's no way the media were EVER not going to give this massive publicity, and whether or not LU and HNH etc reported this would make precious little difference to that at all

  15. They still let Brons in. He has an anti-semitic and racist past that rivals Griffin's.

yeah, that kinda kills the "They're all against the BNP" argument doesn't it.

I guess the Palace were worrying about the possibility of Griffin just wandering up to the Queen and introducing himself rather than being presented (which is the correct procedure).

The publicity would more than likely have passed over pretty quickly. As it is this reinforces the BNPs and Griffins view that the forces of the state are against them and he will milk it more and for longer than a picture of him and night nurse in a rose garden.
We know what a shaky position he is in and this deflects attention away from that.

UAF had organised a demo at the Palace but in any case I think you're wrong. Too many people are starting to believe Griffin's 'all publicity is good publicity' bollocks. It's simply not true and no matter how much Griffin whines about this, people are getting fed up with his inability to take the BNP any further - in fact the party seems to be doing the one step forward, two steps back shuffle and will continue to do it. Sites like Lancaster Unity do a fantastic job because they prove the lie - if any publicity was good, you wouldn't have to exist.

If Griffin could dine out on this, he would, but he's just shown what a complete fucking imbecile he is for trying to milk the event for more money and desperate points. He's on his way out. Leadership challenge or not, he's fucked. Keep up the pressure.

  21. For some reason my last comment didn't get through, but I will reiterate.

In a time of the BNP been cash strapped, idiotic members thinking they are helping save the party/country/Griffin etc etc !!, is it wise for the leader of an almost bankrupt party to be bragging about attending a garden party in Buckinham Palace?. Is Is it wise to be bragging about the "elite Trafalgar Club? Is it wise for all members to know his wages and expenses which he refuses to donate to the party while he continues to send members begging letters?

If Dick Griffin is trying to alienate himself from the hand that feeds ie. the members He is doing a fantastic job.

Screw the media coverage which will be forgotten about in a fart The members will see Dick for the money grabbing, publicity seeking, self promoting sociopath that he really is.

    garden Party my feckin arse!!

the voice of the White working class my arse.

Give it time and I believe members will resent his self promoting self importance and finally get rid of him

  22. The problem is that he was excluded for the wrong reason, and his equally nazi sidekick was still admitted.

They both should have had their invitations withdrawn on the grounds that they are fascist bastards. End of.

The way in which it has been done is the worst of both worlds option - Griffin gets to play the martyr while the moral high ground is denied to anti-fascism. Idiots.

  23. Legitimate comments from both sides of the argument here.

However, this is the sort of story that will blow over quickly and have no lasting impact. More serious is what will the reaction to government cuts adgenda be? Will the reaction take a far-right - blame the immigrants - turn or a more progressive path? And the constant drip of anti-immigrant stories in the Express and Mail.

Whatever, the BNP are on a downward trajectory politically and let's only hope that continues.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I agree with Denise, this was a fuck up. Griffin looks a wally outside the BNP but inside it's different.

If this arrests the BNP implosion because it got all the members disillusioned after the election back on board how's that good for us?

  25. Channel 4 News think it was the kind of publicity money can't buy. I reckon this will be the end of Eddy Butler's challenge now when all the stay at home Nazis tick Griffin's box on the nomination forms.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I wasn't expecting the BNP to be all over the news today, that's for sure.

Nothing worth arguing about, we didn't have any say in it, but it was stupid to uninvite him when all the press were at the Palace.

If it wasn't for the Ian Tomlinson, story this would have been top news item all day.

I agree with disked, it's the kind of publicity money can't buy, and they gave it to him on a silver platter. Also agree it fucks Butler as they rally round Nick Griffin.

    ReplyDelete
  27. When the BNP membership realise that Brons was there and Griffin wasn't and that was due to Griffin's stupidity then I'm sure there'll be another backlash against Griffin. I think Denise is wrong on this. Griffin exposing his ego on TV with his gorillas isn't the most pleasant sight.

  31. I think this incident makes Griffin look weak and foolish, mainly because of his boasting on the BNP website.
He cannot deny that he was politicisng his invitation, and the fact it all backfired on him has left him spluttering and impotent.
He has been publicly rebuked. Give the members time to digest the extent of this humiliation and they will turn against him. Nobody wants to associate with a loser.

  36. We shouldn't fall out over this and we aren't.

I can see that Griffin looks like a buffoon to the country, but I can also see how this will rally the BNP dorks around Griffin, so I think both views are valid.

Hate to say it but democratically elected facist bastards nevertheless regardless of the apathy and PR voting system that got them there. Barking & Dagenham shows how to defeat these people, not handing them martyrdom publicity on the 6 O'Clock.

  38. This issue was already on national TV news BEFORE the people from Buckingham Palace decided to bar Griffin, they decided to bar Griffin BECAUSE OF the comments he made on TV news, so the belief that HNH etc not reporting this issue would have made any difference to the overall publicity the BNP attracted sounds like (no disrespect, but) a bit of ego-talking from those concerned.

Given that Griffin definitely was going to get the publicity anyway, his being barred at the 11th hour, after he'd been crowing with smug glee about finally being invited to Buckingham Palace, was in all practical circumstances the best possible outcome we could have hoped for! :)
