Peter Tatchell confronts BNP's Nick Griffin

Human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell has confronted BNP leader Nick Griffin, calling him a "gutless coward".

Mr. Griffin was emerging from BBC studios at Westminster when Mr. Tatchell approached him and asked him to apologise for what he called the BNP's long history of anti-semitism, homophobia and anti-islamic views.

Two of Mr. Griffin's entourage then grabbed and pushed Mr. Tatchell as the BNP leader left the building.

  1. Griffin's amateur security firstly allowed Peter to approach the lone Nick Griffin and then seemed slightly clueless as to whether they should throw him all the way down the stairs or not (they had to be called back by Griffin).

Who is the blond guy in the blue shirt doing most of the pushing?

  6. Reminds me of the scene in The Untouchables when Al Capone is confronted by Elliot Ness on the stairs of the hotel.

Oddly enough Griffin and Capone are both evil fat gangsters and their respective bodygaurds are just thugs in suits.

    Well done Peter Tatchell.

So the outcome of this whole debacle is what?

Everyone discovers that Griffin tried to use the queens garden party as a political platform.

Griffin is yet again exposed as a bungling idiot to all and sundry

Griffin and his thugs are exposed by Peter tatchell for all to see.

Griffin is such a monumental fuck up I would give him his own tv show!!

  7. It's ironic that Nick Griffin was whining on as usual with the same old attention seeking bullshit about being denied free speech with he gets his steroid-pumping bodybuilding skinhead animals to smack up anybody who dares to speak to him.

  8. Well done Peter, you are a very brave man! The jerk in the blue shirt is Essex BNP activist Tony 'the wanker' Gladwin.

  10. I took some convincing but over the years have come round to the opinion that Peter Tatchell is an absolute fucking star (and this episode should cause Tatchell critics like Jasbir Puar - see earlier LU posts - to hang their heads in shame, unless any of them found time to get out from behind their desks and physically confront Fascists that is?!)

Somebody buy this man a drink

Were they not planning a smaller one in Wales or has that one been canceled as well?

Some people don't like Peter because he will confront bigotry and homophobia wherever it's found (including among communities that the Left have traditionally patronised). That's pisses some people off but Peter's only being consistent and true to his principles.

    @irishtony re: The Untouchables

    Good call - that's exactly what's it's like.

  16. Please can we call for some restraint. Using the language of the gutter and hate only discredits any just cause for peace. Surely that's our ultimate goal ?

    To quote Woody Allen:

"I think you should defend to the death their right to march, and then go down and meet them with baseball bats."

    Peter Tatchell: Apology and Correction

"Raw Nerve Books wishes to make an unreserved apology to the human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell and to the LGBT human rights organisation OutRage regarding untrue allegations published in the book "Out of Place: Interrogating Silences in Queerness/Raciality" edited by Adi Kuntsman & Esperanza Miyake (Raw Nerve Books 2008). These untrue allegations appeared in the chapter "Gay Imperialism: Gender and Sexuality Discourse in the War on Terror" by Jin Haritaworn, Tamsila Tauqir and Esra Erdem. We regret that this chapter contains serious, defamatory untruths concerning Peter Tatchell and OutRage. It casts unjustified doubt on their character, motives and integrity and involves a fundamental misrepresentation of their campaigns. We accept that the human rights work of Mr Tatchell and OutRage is motivated by a sincere support for people struggle against tyranny and injustice, and has involved valuable assistance to many LGBT campaigners in the UK and worldwide. Raw Nerve Books hereby offers the following correction to the offending erroneous chapter in Out of Place:

Contrary to the claims made in the book, Out of Place, Mr Tatchell has never "claimed the role of liberator and expert about Muslim gays and lesbians". He is not Islamophobic and is not "part of the Islamophobia industry". Nor is OutRage. Neither he nor OutRage are racist. They have not engaged in "racial" politics. Mr Tatchell has never described "Muslims as Nazis" and he has never made the equation "Muslim = Nazi" or "Muslim = Evil." He has never "collaborated with the extreme right" and never "participated with several racist and fascist groups"." etc etc etc...
