Former BNP Councillor Paul Golding heads Britain First nationalist movement

A former BNP councillor who was accused of “doing nothing” for his constituents is launching his own nationalist party.

Paul Golding, who stepped down as a Sevenoaks District councillor for the Swanley St Mary’s ward in February, is now director of Britain First. Mr Golding, whose latest venture is run from a Swanley postal address, told News Shopper he left his position as councillor because he had moved out of the area.

Mr Golding said in February: “I’ve moved out of the area. I didn’t think it was morally justified to keep getting the allowance. It’s as simple as that, no drama involved.”

In a campaign for Britain First, Mr Golding makes a swipe at other nationalist parties, asking: “Are you, like me, fed up of enduring the constant bickering, moaning, whinging and name-calling that is at present consuming what is left of the British patriotic movement?”

Mr Golding also accuses other parties of creating: “a constant stream of self inflicted media scandals and embarrassing gaffes that make all of us look ridiculous”.

The group also uses slogans including “if voting changed anything, it would be illegal” and “the voice of the silent majority”.

Mr Golding, who calls the movement “a modern political phenomenon” also says: “Now it is time for all patriots of stout heart to join forces, so that we can, once again, achieve progress and make an impact against the despicable traitors ruining our once green and pleasant land. We want our country back and we shall not rest until our land is free.”

Labour Councillor John Underwood, who still represents the Swanley St Mary’s ward for Sevenoaks District Council, said: “He can do what he likes as far as I’m concerned. I’m just glad he’s gone and out of my way.”

Paul Golding’s timeline of gaffes

February 2009 - Paul Golding is elected, beating Labour candidate Michael Hogg by 408 votes to 332.

August 2009 - He attends a BNP Red White and Blue family festival in Derbyshire - where an undercover News of the World reporter records a 12-year-old burning a gollywog. Mr Golding condemned these actions.

August 2009 - As part of the BNP’s anti-media campaign, Operation Fightback, he made a video to prove that a woman convicted of intimidating an Asian mother was not a BNP member. Later investigations confirmed that Helen Forster was a member, but had registered under a different name.

September 2009 - St Mary’s constituents accuse Mr Golding of “doing nothing” for them since his election.

October 2009 - The BNP threatens to boycott three News Shopper advertisers unless they pull their adverts, calling the paper “a particularly venomous anti-British left-wing propaganda outlet”.

February 2011 - Steps down as a Sevenoaks District Councillor.

Meet the BNP hijacker … or maybe not

As part of our service of keeping BNP members informed about what is going on in their own party, we pass on details of a Hounslow BNP branch meeting featuring the guest speaker Paul Golding, well known in the party as a "London super-activist" and driver of the BNP's lie lorry.

In an attempt to round members up for the meeting on Friday 13 February, Councillor Bob Bailey, the BNP's London organiser and leader of the BNP group on Barking and Dagenham council, says: "Paul is an excellent speaker and leading light in the south east and London. He is the candidate in a by election in Seven Oaks [sic] Kent. Polling day Thursday 12th so with any luck we may be greeting Councillor Paul Golding!"

This may cause consternation among BNP activists being dragged over to Swanley St Mary's ward, Sevenoaks, to carry on canvassing for their candidate right up to the actual polling day on 19 February. This latest blunder by Councillor Bailey follows his glowing endorsement of the BNP's candidate in the Waddon ward, Croydon, by-election on 12 February, Charlotte Lewis. When her animal rights terrorism conviction was revealed, Bailey told the local paper it would increase the BNP's share of the vote.

Why Bailey was acting as as a BNP spokesperson for Croydon, south London, is unclear. Party members are wondering what has happened to Bob Gertner, the south London organiser.

Members and supporters wanting to attend the Hounslow meeting in west London are told to make their way to the rendezvous point at Uxbridge underground station at 7pm and "look for activists with Union flag". Is that the Union Flag Golding claimed to have hijacked in his recent statement, widely publicised by Searchlight: "We have hi-jacked the Union Flag, now we must hi-jack the word ‘British'"?

BNP gets ready to open office

The controversial right-wing British National Party is gearing up to open its first branch in Sevenoaks, it claims.

The precise location of the office is being kept a closely-guarded secret, but South East regional spokesman Andy Mcbride has confirmed it will be in the town and is to be spearheaded by party activist Paul Golding. It should be up and running by the end of January, the party said.

Sevenoaks MP Michael Fallon said the BNP had no history in the town and branded the move "pointless". "Sevenoaks is not the sort of place for extremists of any kind, right or left," said Mr Fallon.

Sevenoaks District Council leader Cllr Peter Fleming said: "I think all the mainstream political parties would be concerned about a party whose basic message is one of intolerance and hate." He added: "I think the majority of residents would be horrified the BNP was opening an office because of the policies they pursue."

The news comes in the wake of last week's publication of the party list on the internet, which identified 14 members across the Sevenoaks area. Mr Mcbride claimed the figure was actually three times as high and believed it was only a matter of time before the party started to win local council seats.

"We've grown so formidable it's frightening them," he said. "It's frightening the Government and the political elite. There's demand here, actually. We wouldn't do it if there wasn't. He (Mr Golding) is a very experienced member and we're positive it's going to be a success."

Mr Mcbride branded the publication of the list a "Socialist conspiracy".

Among other places, it identified members in Sevenoaks town, New Ash Green, West Kingsdown and Biggin Hill.

John Dixon, of Lance Croft in New Ash Green, has been a BNP member for the past 25 years. Before that he was a member of the National Front. "I make no secret of it whatsoever and I couldn't give a damn," said the 78-year-old. "I'm pleased the list has leaked out, it gives the establishment something to think about. They're frightened out of their wits."

Biggin Hill resident Don MacPhee, 77, said he had been a member for the past nine years. Mr MacPhee, who lives in The Grove, said he had joined because he was worried about uncontrolled immigration, saying: "I don't believe a multicultural society works."

The list of local members also included a school employee, who insisted he was no longer a member.
