The result of the Barnsley By-election should be through in an hour or so and most commentators are predicting the BNP will get between 4 and 6% on a low turnout which would be another fall in their support in what should be a strong area for them.
In the mean time let us savour a council by-election result from Salford which the BNP say is a strong area for them.
Walkden North
Lab 1291, 72.6%
Con 209, 11.7%
EngDem 125, 7.0%
BNP 92, 5.2%
LD 62. 3.5%
And now the Barnsley result.
Lab: 14,724 - 60.8%
UKIP: 2,953 - 12.2%
Cons: 1,999 - 8.3%
BNP: 1,463 - 6.0%
Ind (D): 1,266 - 5.2%
LD: 1,012 - 4.2%
ED: 544 - 2.2%
MRLP: 198 0.8%
Ind (VD): 60 - 0.2%
That's nearly a 3% drop in the BNP's vote since the General Election in a by-election called for because an MP was jailed for fiddling his expenses, in one of the strongest areas of support for the BNP, with one of the few active branches remaining and every possible resource chucked into the campaign and a low turnout.
If only the Truth Truck was running, it could have been so different.

I hope I don't get the smile wiped off my face in the next hour by the BNP getting 40% in Barnsley but the Salford result is a big body blow.
Jeffersum and Griffin chucked a lot into this campaign and were beaten by the English Democrats.
Can we have a list of excuses, I'll start.
It was the first time the party had stood in the area.
I bet the Lib Dems are looking forward to the local elections in May.
Ouch
Barnsley South:
Lab 14,724,
UKIP 2,953,
Con 1,999,
BNP 1,453,
Independent (Tony Defoy local man) 1266,
Lib Dem 1012,
Eng Dem 544,
Loonies 198,
Ind 60
It wasnt the disaster for the BNP that was predicted. The tory vote collapsed and went to the UKIP, and the Libs were humiliated. However what is worrying is that the parties of the right got 20% of the vote
Griffin will be able to spin the fact that they saved their deposit and all the attention will be on the Lib Dems.
However, the vote is obviously falling and with the local Elections coming up they'll be worried. They needed a big 2nd or 3rd place in their strongest area to get the money rolling in again.
They are obviously losing out big time to UKIP and remember that UKIP used to be a Party that only performed well in Euro Elections. Now they are hammering the BNP in Parliamentary By-Elections too.

Barnsley South?
I wouldn't say the BNP vote is disasterous - they held their deposit - but to get only half the UKIP vote and be beaten by the Conservatives is poor. The BNP have done a lot of work in Barnsley in the last few years but have still to have anyone elected there. Hopefully a sense of pointlessness about banging their heads against a brick wall will now sink in and they'll just fuck off.
I would have loved to see them lose their deposit but this is the next best thing.
Why don't you use bold type for UKIP as you have done for BNP and EngDem? They are, are they not a far right party who have hoovered up the BNP's vote?
Fuck it, the BNP kept their deposit.
Bet Nick Clegg's weeping today.
Not a good result for ANY of the establishment parties: http://riversstream.blogspot.com/2011/03/barnsley-central-by-election-bad-result.html
Yet another disaster for the flabby crook gri££in
BNP/EDL,KEEP TRYING.THERE BOTH THE SAME PEOPLE.THIS PLOT GAMEPLAN IS SO SIMILAR TO THE DAYS OF NATIONAL FRONT/BRITISH MOVEMENT BACK IN THE 70'S/80'S.griffin/lennon have been sussed out,so it's time to kick them out as with did with nf/bm.1LOVE,LOVE ALL.9XZULUG
Whatever spin they put on it, this is BIGTIME disaster for the BNP.

Looking at the time they posted I think they were referring to the Salford result where the Eng Dems beat the BNP and Griffin did put a lot of work into that campaign judging by his twitter comments and pics on facebook
Why do we keep referring to UKIP as some kind of rival to the BNP, they got their vote from pissed off tories in Barnsley and to be honest they are Thatcherites. I dont think the BNP see them as river party at all, if anything, they are splitting the tory vote.
Why do we keep referring to UKIP as some kind of rival to the BNP
UKIP are not fascist but then again neither are the majority of BNP voters. The UKIP do campaign on immigration and must pull votes from the BNP, especially in the more 'owner occupier - lower middle class' wards. They are a de-facto rival to the BNP on the ground while coming from different political traditions.
