The gunman who shot a US congresswoman in the head might have links to a US white supremacist group that has hosted the British National Party leader.
The US Department of Homeland Security is investigating whether Jared Loughner, who has been charged over the attack, in which six people died and 13 were wounded, was connected with the racist and antisemitic organisation American Renaissance.
Founded in 1991, American Renaissance, which holds biennial conferences, is dedicated to propagating the pseudo-scientific “research” of racial and racist scientists obsessed by a belief in the innate mental and moral inferiority of blacks to whites. The conference is a central event for white nationalists, neo-nazis, Klansmen and Holocaust deniers, who form a large part of the audience.
It also produces a newsletter of the same name, edited by its founder and conference organiser Jared Taylor, which focuses on the discredited subject of racial science and argues repetitively that blacks are genetically inferior to whites. It described the recent success for the Republican party during the US mid-term elections as the “great white wave”, a view that corresponds with Taylor’s “clear conception of the United States as a nation ruled by and for whites”.
Nick Griffin featured on the list of speakers for last February’s American Renaissance conference, where he was hoping to celebrate his election as an MEP with an address entitled “Victory against all odds”. However the conference was cancelled after four successive hotels cancelled bookings.
Taylor had also hoped to bring over the BNP ideologue and website editor Arthur Kemp, author of the monumental racist tome March of the Titans, but Kemp was unavailable.
It was not Griffin’s first invitation. In 2002 he spoke on “Nationalist Movements and the Crisis of the Liberal Elite”. In 2006, fresh from his acquittal at Leeds Crown Court, he opened the conference with a 45-minute speech entitled “What is left of free speech in Britain”, in which he attacked Britain’s “bastardised, mongrelised democracy” and told delegates “we have had enough of this ghastly multiracial experiment that has been forced upon us”. He concluded: “people are going to be killed before we de-Islamify Europe”.
Afterwards Griffin spent time networking with racists such as Don Black, the former Alabama Ku Klux Klan leader who now runs the world’s largest white supremacist website under the slogan “white pride, world wide”.
This year American Renaissance has invited Jonathan Bowden, the former BNP “cultural officer”, to address the restaged ninth conference in North Carolina early next month. Bowden remains a regular speaker at BNP events despite his leading role in the New Right group led by the former National Front “political soldier” Troy Southgate.
At a New Right meeting last October Bowden sang the praises of the infamous nazi Savitri Devi. A close associate of the British nazi leader Colin Jordan and the US nazi leader Lincoln Rockwell, Devi was one of the founders of the World Union of National Socialists in 1962 and wrote a number of books that hardline national socialists and pagan mystics see as the ultimate expression of their world view.
Devi, who died in England in 1982, visited Germany after Hitler’s fall in 1945 to expound his beliefs and was imprisoned by the British occupation authority. She spent time with SS prisoners and tried to facilitate their escape but failed. Her ashes were carried to the headquarters of the US nazi party by Tony Williams, an old colleague of Griffin and leader of the National Socialist Movement, the group that encouraged David Copeland to embark on his terror bombing spree in London in 1999.
American Renaissance has denied any knowledge of Loughner. “No one by the name of Loughner has ever been a subscriber to American Renaissance or has ever registered for an American Renaissance conference,” Taylor stated yesterday. He went on to deny, improbably, that his organisation was racist and antisemitic.
However its mission statement repeats the standard racist claim that white people are suppressed. “One of the most destructive myths of modern times is that people of all races have the same average intelligence,” it reads. “Racial loyalty or racial consciousness is normal and healthy. All non-white groups instinctively pursue their own interests, and legitimately so. It is only whites who have been taught that it is immoral to take even the most basic steps to ensure their survival.”

Shun bigots
A Washington, D.C. area hotel last week closed its doors to a racist convention that had booked rooms under the benign-sounding name “American Renaissance” conference. Now all American hotels and conference centers should follow that lead because in the U.S., renaissance means overcoming bigotry.
“American Renaissance” conducts a biannual conference that promotes racial and religious hatred. This year one of its guest speakers at the February conference is to be Nick Griffin, a convicted criminal who heads the British National Party, a white separatist group that contends immigrants are causing the “genocide” of “indigenous” white Britons.
The hotel cancelled the booking after several groups asked it not to serve as host to a hate hoedown. Those groups will monitor the organization’s attempts to secure another meeting place. They include the United Steelworkers; One People’s Project, which describes itself as a resource for those fighting fascism; and the Mormon Worker, a newspaper based in Provo, Utah.
As a union that promotes diversity and inclusion, the United Steelworkers finds the doctrine and language of Griffin and “American Renaissance” reprehensible.
The “American Renaissance” website contends, for example: “Virtually no whites anywhere are willing to break taboos about racial differences in IQ, the costs of ‘diversity,’ or the challenges of non-white immigration.”
It specifies: “Gentlemen will wear jackets and ties to all conference events.” Apparently women are not invited.
It also tacitly acknowledges the offensiveness of its message by offering attendees tags bearing false names, which it describes as “war names": “We will prepare name tags in advance; please call us if you would like to use a nom de guerre.”
That link to violence is not accidental. By inviting Nick Griffin, the group embraced a criminal whose organization is connected to numerous violent – even deadly – acts.
In 1998, Griffin was convicted of inciting racial hatred for articles that denied the Holocaust. He received a suspended nine-month prison term. At the trial he said, “I am well aware that the orthodox opinion is that six million Jews were gassed and cremated and turned into lampshades. Orthodox opinion also once held that the world is flat.”
Griffin has cited neo-fascist Robert Fiore as a major BNP influence. Fiore is a convicted criminal and member of the Italian terrorist organization implicated in the 1980 Bologna bombing that killed 85 people.
Among the criminals associated with the BNP are David Copeland, a former member sentenced to 50 yeas for setting off explosives that killed three people and injured 139; former BNP candidate Coventry Roderick Rowley who was sentenced to prison on 14 charges of making and distributing obscene images of children, and BNP election agent Kevin Hughes who was sentenced to two years in prison for assaulting an Iraqi asylum seeker.
Griffin and the BNP were admired by U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum shooter James W. von Brunn, who killed a security guard when he opened fire in the Washington, D.C. museum lobby last year. Brunn, a white supremacist who was convicted and imprisoned earlier for an armed attempt to kidnap Federal Reserve Board members, went to see Griffin speak when the BNP leader lectured in the U.S. previously. Brunn wrote on his blog that although he had misgivings about Griffin allowing Jews to join the BNP:
“My hat is off to this fighting white man, Nick Griffin, for the incredible victories for White Britain which his hard work, rhino-thick skin against Jewsmedia criticism, and inspired leadership have made possible. . .Hail the white leader, Nick Griffin!”
Brunn died in prison in January awaiting his murder trial.
Griffin himself is again facing the potential of imprisonment, this time over the BNP’s racist constitution. A British court ordered him to change the document so that it no longer bars admission of Asians, blacks and members of other ethnic minorities. The BNP constitution also says:
“The British National Party stands for the preservation of the national and ethnic character of the British people and is wholly opposed to any form of racial integration between British and non-European peoples. It is therefore committed to stemming and reversing the tide of non-white immigration and to restoring, by legal changes, negotiation and consent, the overwhelmingly white make-up of the British population that existed in Britain prior to 1948.”
Griffin suggests non-whites be paid to leave Britain and return to their countries of origin. It’s not clear how that would work for minorities who’ve lived in Britain for generations.
The court initially set the end of January as a deadline for the constitutional change, but has given Griffin two more weeks to comply. This convict connected to so many other criminals apparently received a visa to enter the U.S. How likely is it that he would he have gotten one if he were a Muslim endorsing the “cleansing” of Christians?
Hotels and conference centers have every right to shun the likes of Griffin and “American Renaissance.” Refusing to provide a forum for hate is not a denial of First Amendment free speech rights. Griffin and the American Renaissance are free to spew their race and religion-based venom in any public park or on any private property owned by a like-minded bigot.

Nick Griffin to address US white supremacist conference
BNP leader Nick Griffin will join Ku Klux Klan members, neo-Nazis, holocaust deniers, anti-immigration extremists and eugenicists at the white supremacist American Renaissance conference in Virginia next monthThe convicted racist will appear alongside Dan Roodt, author of “Afrikaner Survival Under Black Rule”, David A. Yeagley, author of “What’s Up With Dark Men?”, lawyer to white supremacist groups Sam G Dickson, segregationist Jared Taylor – who believes Martin Luther King “left a legacy of division and resentment” – Raymond Wolters, a ’scientist’ who wishes to conduct experiments into race and IQ, and racist filmmaker Craig Bodeker.
American Resistance, a newsletter published by Taylor, promotes pseudoscientific research which argues that non-whites are genetically and morally inferior; their conference seeks to bring together various right-wing racist people and ideas. Infoshop News adds that:
“The Anti-Defamation League writes that AmRen, “promotes their views by attacking racial, ethnic, and religious diversity, which they call ‘one of the most divisive forces on the planet’ and therefore ‘dangerous’” and that, “many of North America’s leading intellectual racists have written for American Renaissance or have addressed the biennial American Renaissance conferences”.”A campiagn has been launched to put pressure on the hotel hosting the event to cancel or face a boycott. Yesterday Left Foot Forward reported Griffin’s attempt to use the Haiti earthquake for political gain.

Plan B: How to tone up the white race
The white nationalist world is filled with any manner of oddball schemes, but a recent advertisement in the race science publication American Renaissance for “saving” the white race through the use of “Positive Subliminal Audio Programming” has got to take the cake for kookiest.
Alexander Thiele of the Legion of Joan of Arc blog proposes that for white nationalists to “safeguard [their] ethnic genetic interests,” they must counter destructive PC propaganda, which he calls negative subliminal audio programming, that whites are subjected to every day. That programming supposedly interferes with whites’ ability to understand that their true interests are in saving the white race — not hanging out with people of color.
Thiele came to this understanding of how whites went wrong after reading a 2006 article by anti-Semitic theorist Kevin MacDonald, a psychology professor at California State Long Beach, in the white supremacist journal, The Occidental Quarterly. The article argued that although “ethnic tendencies are automatic,” the mass media and our multicultural society’s “cultural programming” is somehow interfering with these natural processes — and thus stopping white nationalism from taking off. So what does Alexander propose that whites should do? Lucky for white nationalists, Thiele says he has already created a way to bring “self programmed positive subliminal audio into our people’s daily routines.” He created a “subliminal, hypnotic guided meditation called Destiny and another piece, a pure subliminal called Winning.” The audiotapes are composed of tones that supposedly stimulate the frontal cortex and “synchronize both hemispheres of the brain which unifies and protects the mind from the enemies [sic] negative subliminal assault.”
Worried that Thiele’s Aryan tones might not work? Just listen to this American Renaissance conference-goer’s testimonial: “My wife and I had not been doing very well. We were edgy, finding fault with each other and talking about a divorce. … So I did what you suggested; put the CD on the home stereo and let it repeat on track one for a month. After two weeks things smoothed out a little. … After a year we made a good deal on a better house. I have some very interesting new job offers which I have not acted on yet because I want to do it right. My level of political activity has increased considerably. My wife and I have not spoken about divorce since before listening to the CD.”
