BFP links up with Australian far-right racists

Having formalised its alliance with the English Defence League, the British Freedom Party is now keen to reinforce its international links. The BFP has posted an extended interview with Andrew J. Philips, chairman of the Australian Protectionist Party, who claims that the APP is a "sensible, moderate but uncompromising nationalist party". It is in fact a far-right group specialising in anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim propaganda.

The APP's politics can be judged by the fact that their website has reproduced material by the British National Party and featured a video of a speech by South African white supremacist Arthur Kemp, author of March of the Titans: a History of the White Race, at a time when Kemp was a leading figure in the BNP ("Another one of Arthur Kemp's excellent speeches…not to be missed").

You can understand why the BFP and APP might enjoy a warm relationship, because the two organisations certainly have a lot in common. The BFP's new chairman Paul Weston has written an article entitled "The ethnic cleansing of the English", which warns that due to "mass immigration" the "indigenous race" will be reduced to "ethnic minority status in their homeland within twenty years".

Could EDL leader Stephen Lennon have been aware of this article when he told EDL members that Weston "has charisma, can speak well, and is a jolly good bloke"? After all, Lennon recently assured his local paper that the EDL leadership's response to racists is that "we find out who they are and we kick them out". When Lennon joins the BFP next year will he be calling for the expulsion of Paul Weston?

Gunman may have white supremacist link

The gunman who shot a US congresswoman in the head might have links to a US white supremacist group that has hosted the British National Party leader.

The US Department of Homeland Security is investigating whether Jared Loughner, who has been charged over the attack, in which six people died and 13 were wounded, was connected with the racist and antisemitic organisation American Renaissance.

Founded in 1991, American Renaissance, which holds biennial conferences, is dedicated to propagating the pseudo-scientific “research” of racial and racist scientists obsessed by a belief in the innate mental and moral inferiority of blacks to whites. The conference is a central event for white nationalists, neo-nazis, Klansmen and Holocaust deniers, who form a large part of the audience.

It also produces a newsletter of the same name, edited by its founder and conference organiser Jared Taylor, which focuses on the discredited subject of racial science and argues repetitively that blacks are genetically inferior to whites. It described the recent success for the Republican party during the US mid-term elections as the “great white wave”, a view that corresponds with Taylor’s “clear conception of the United States as a nation ruled by and for whites”.

Nick Griffin featured on the list of speakers for last February’s American Renaissance conference, where he was hoping to celebrate his election as an MEP with an address entitled “Victory against all odds”. However the conference was cancelled after four successive hotels cancelled bookings.

Taylor had also hoped to bring over the BNP ideologue and website editor Arthur Kemp, author of the monumental racist tome March of the Titans, but Kemp was unavailable.

It was not Griffin’s first invitation. In 2002 he spoke on “Nationalist Movements and the Crisis of the Liberal Elite”. In 2006, fresh from his acquittal at Leeds Crown Court, he opened the conference with a 45-minute speech entitled “What is left of free speech in Britain”, in which he attacked Britain’s “bastardised, mongrelised democracy” and told delegates “we have had enough of this ghastly multiracial experiment that has been forced upon us”. He concluded: “people are going to be killed before we de-Islamify Europe”.

Afterwards Griffin spent time networking with racists such as Don Black, the former Alabama Ku Klux Klan leader who now runs the world’s largest white supremacist website under the slogan “white pride, world wide”.

This year American Renaissance has invited Jonathan Bowden, the former BNP “cultural officer”, to address the restaged ninth conference in North Carolina early next month. Bowden remains a regular speaker at BNP events despite his leading role in the New Right group led by the former National Front “political soldier” Troy Southgate.

At a New Right meeting last October Bowden sang the praises of the infamous nazi Savitri Devi. A close associate of the British nazi leader Colin Jordan and the US nazi leader Lincoln Rockwell, Devi was one of the founders of the World Union of National Socialists in 1962 and wrote a number of books that hardline national socialists and pagan mystics see as the ultimate expression of their world view.

Devi, who died in England in 1982, visited Germany after Hitler’s fall in 1945 to expound his beliefs and was imprisoned by the British occupation authority. She spent time with SS prisoners and tried to facilitate their escape but failed. Her ashes were carried to the headquarters of the US nazi party by Tony Williams, an old colleague of Griffin and leader of the National Socialist Movement, the group that encouraged David Copeland to embark on his terror bombing spree in London in 1999.

American Renaissance has denied any knowledge of Loughner. “No one by the name of Loughner has ever been a subscriber to American Renaissance or has ever registered for an American Renaissance conference,” Taylor stated yesterday. He went on to deny, improbably, that his organisation was racist and antisemitic.

However its mission statement repeats the standard racist claim that white people are suppressed. “One of the most destructive myths of modern times is that people of all races have the same average intelligence,” it reads. “Racial loyalty or racial consciousness is normal and healthy. All non-white groups instinctively pursue their own interests, and legitimately so. It is only whites who have been taught that it is immoral to take even the most basic steps to ensure their survival.”

BNP leadership challenge fails

Eddy Butler has failed to obtain enough nominations to challenge Nick Griffin for the leadership of the British National Party this year. After several weeks of campaigning he says he collected 500 signatures from activists and officers around the country on his own forms, which the party does not recognise. He would have needed the support of 840 party members of at least two years’ standing.

Butler says he will not take legal action against the BNP over the unconstitutional rules that Griffin imposed for the challenge because “it would be very costly for us and for the party”. Butler is no doubt influenced by the fact that the BNP is insolvent and already has many unpaid legal bills, so even if he won he would be unable to recover his costs.

Urging his supporters to stay in the BNP, Butler writes: “Rather than get embroiled in legal action we will continue our battle to save our party from destruction at Griffin’s hands through other means”. He also hopes that his supporters will stay in their party positions if they can square it with their conscience.

Butler says that the requirement to obtain the support of 20% of long-standing members was “an impossibly high total”, which is why Griffin imposed it. He also claims that many members did not receive their nomination forms because the BNP’s membership database is “incompetently run” and that Griffin’s action in persuading two “stooges” to stand for the leadership as well complicated matters.

Griffin also used “political intimidation” by suspending many supporters of Butler. For that reason he has not handed in his forms as he does “not wish to compromise anyone”.

On the official forms, which members had to complete and send individually to the party’s official scrutineer, Andrew Brons MEP, Butler only obtained 214 signatures. The stooge candidates, Richard Barnbrook and Derek Adams, got 23 and four signatures respectively, while 971 people ticked the box indicating that they were satisfied with Griffin’s leadership.

The failure is testament to the fact that most BNP members do not go to party meetings or follow the various blogs that have exposed the gross mismanagement in the party and the way in which Griffin and his consiglieri, Jim Dowson, are using it as a cash generating machine for themselves. Griffin’s main interest now is in securing re-election to the European Parliament in 2014 so that he qualifies for a pension when he eventually leaves office.

Whether Griffin will allow any Butler supporters to remain in official party positions is unclear at this stage; likewise whether Butler’s supporters will want to stay in a party in which Griffin and Dowson are now even stronger than before.

Many activists, though not the bulk of the ordinary members, are now well aware that Dowson owns the BNP, that the party is insolvent and has been managed incompetently, and that Griffin never hesitates to lie blatantly to preserve his position. Many have already said that if Butler’s challenge fails they will leave, though most are undecided whether to join one of the tiny opponents of the BNP on the far right or to form a new party. Neither option is attractive for them.

Lee Barnes, the BNP’s former legal officer who resigned yesterday, can be expected to reveal more about what has been going on in the BNP, now that he has seen the truth about Dowson, whom he has described as the “Gollum” of the BNP and Griffin’s “cut price Rasputin”.

Most recently Barnes has described Arthur Kemp’s March of the Titans, a huge tome much praised by Griffin’s BNP, as “a regurgitated sub-SS handbook” and its author as a “Rhodesian Nazi terrorist” who “hates everyone and everything and believes everyone on the planet is below him”. According to Barnes, Kemp was known in the party as Napoleon. We look forward to further insights such as these.

It's time for Simon Bennett to stand up and be counted

One of the more entertaining aspects of running a site like Lancaster Unity is seeing the BNP regularly taking chunks out of itself when it comes under serious attack from one of its own, normally as a direct result of mistreating the member concerned.

We can say anything we like while opposing the BNP and to deflect any criticism the party will automatically claim we're lying, that we're paid to attack the BNP and thus not to be trusted or that we're working with MI5 - but there's nothing quite like an angry ex-member to really boot the boot in good and hard.

Remember Sharon Ebanks, the BNP's former Birmingham organiser? She was so angry at the way she was treated that she has spent the three years or so since then attacking Griffin in print and even went to the extreme of starting her own party. Then there was Matt Single, who was so pissed off at the antics of Griffin's gang that he released the BNP membership list into the wild to great hilarity all round, incidentally causing a lot of problems to the party and to quite a few members.

The December rebellion that followed the sackings of Kenny Smith, Sadie Graham and Single from the party produced a host of recriminations from other members and a lot of them sent information to us, which brightened things considerably from our end.

With Simon Bennett however, the party might have bitten off rather more than it can chew. Bennett, the party's former webmaster, seems to have been involved in pretty much every aspect of the BNP's operation from flogging badges to fund-raising, and the information he is revealing is gradually building up into a pretty damning indictment of the leadership. We won't dwell too much on all this because exposure is looming and we wouldn't want to prejudice any future court case. A couple of things have been mentioned of late though, which are worth a comment or two.

One of these concerns donations to the BNP. As you'll probably be aware, political parties are obliged by law to report donations that exceed a certain amount, depending on whether they are donated within or outside the UK. The accounts, which are due into the Electoral Commission shortly, are not expected to show any large donations but according to Bennett, the party has received some that qualify. Here is Bennett's take on this, from a post on the ghastly VNN forum:

'I know of several website donations that were way over £1500 that were made in the last quarter of 2009 and the first quarter of 2010.

Many were clearly fake, but a good few looked totally legit. These were for £2,500 and appear not to have been declared. I know they are processed in Belfast, but under what company name is anyones guess.

I have records of ALL donations made through the website. I'd be a piss poor webmaster if I didn't. I build websites based on stats and logs. I impliment what works and what doesn't - that's my job!

I have a legal right to hold this information as Adlorries Ltd are trying to squirm out of paying me the commission they promised me, the commission I NEVER asked for or claimed - until now.'

IF this is true and can be proven and IF they are not declared, criminal charges should follow - but ONLY if Bennett provides that proof to the EC and/or the police. But this might very well be the tip of an astonishingly large iceberg. Another of his posts on VNN has this to say:

'I am sat on something that could and almost certainly would finish the BNP in an instant. It would see the party hit with a bill for £1.4m.

If I wanted to sabotage the BNP I could have done a proper job during the EU elections with what I know. The fuck ups made during that were so bad they could of (and still can) finish the party overnight.

Just ask Nick Griffin why £70,000 worth of paper was re-ordered in case the £1.4m cock up came to light...'

Intriguing stuff but I don't particularly like being teased, even with £1.4m. And the problem with dropping teasers around like this without following up pretty swiftly with some hard detail is that it merely gives scum like Griffin and his cohorts the opportunity to cover everything up.

An additional facet of this is that Bennett is, if he is to be believed, knowingly sitting on information that shows the party to have acted illegally - or at the very least, to have acted with supreme incompetence - yet he has kept quiet. If illegality is involved, doesn't that make him an accessory?

Strangely enough, this is suggested to him by a BNP member, Bev Kerry, a nasty piece of work by anyone's standards. Kerry is currently a moderator on the VNN forum, has been one on the Blood and Honour forum and posts regularly on the Stormfront forum - all hardcore nazi - all while openly being in the BNP. Tut-tut.

On his own blog, Bennett has attacked the BNP, apparently going to the extreme of uploading a telephone conversation between him and Griffin, recorded without Griffin's knowledge or consent. Kerry, playing Little Miss Legal Assistant, berates Bennett as having broken the law - even to the extent of listing the relevant laws. Very clever of her - but don't I recall the BNP releasing a recording of a conversation between Kenny Smith, Sadie Graham and Matt Single that was made without their permission or knowledge?

The BNP and Nick Griffin in particular seem to believe that they operate outside the law, largely because they have done so for years and just keep getting away with it because their opponents lack the courage to take that extra step and take the information they have to the relevant authority or even simply to make it completely public. If Bennett wants to see Griffin and his gang of crooks out of the BNP for good, this is the only way it's going to happen. In short, if Bennett wants to win his corner, he has to stop being defensive and go on the attack.

The December rebels lost out because they didn't keep up the attack on Griffin - or at least not sufficiently. By the time they had decided to break out the big guns, most of their supporters had already scuttled back to the party. Colin Auty's leadership challenge was all-round weak and feeble right up until the last minute, by which time, he'd lost any advantage he might have had.

Bennett is in a unique position because he has all the ammunition he needs and he clearly has the ability to make use of it, but if he wants to topple Griffin, he needs to move fast and hard, and if he does so, he could clear out the rest of the crap like Jim Dowson, Arthur Kemp and Clive Jefferson/Aitken along with their boss.

Bennett can take action now and can achieve what he wants to achieve, or he can sit back and ignore all the illegalities and the incompetence, thus becoming openly complicit in the continuing disaster that is Nick Griffin's BNP. The choice is his but it needs making sooner rather than later or he'll end up being yet another forgotten rebel in a very long list of forgotten rebels.

Ex-BNP webmaster confirms Jim Dowson owns the BNP

The British National Party learned the hard way that exploiting and cheating its own supporters has unpleasant consequences, when two days before polling day its webmaster removed the BNP website from the internet

Simon Bennett replaced the site, which received more visitors than any other political party website, with a brief statement accusing the party of “several attempts of theft today with regards to design work and content owned by myself”. He also claimed that Arthur Kemp and Jim Dowson, two close aides to Nick Griffin, the BNP leader, had threatened violence against him and his family.

Bennett’s action meant that supporters could no longer make online donations or membership applications. For the first time for many months, BNP e-news bulletins came without a donation button.

Bennett had been in dispute with Dowson, the convicted criminal who in effect owns the BNP, for a year, but matters came to a head when Griffin insisted, against Bennett’s advice, on adding an image of a jar of Marmite to a version of the BNP’s television election broadcast pre-released on the party website.

According to a longer statement by Bennett, this “very deliberate copyright infringement” was a stunt by Griffin and Dowson to provoke a reaction from Unilever, which owns the Marmite brand, and so “create publicity and a fund raising opportunity”. In the event, Bennett claimed, website traffic, donations and membership applications barely increased at all.

After Unilever responded by launching proceedings over copyright infringement, Griffin and Dowson realised they had underestimated the severity of the legal and financial consequences and came up with pathetic excuses, such as a claim that a “joker” had amended the film. When Unilever’s lawyers refused to believe them, Bennett says he was expected “to go to court and lie through my teeth in order to bail them out of a ridiculous hole they had dug themselves into”.

Griffin and Dowson had misjudged Bennett. Unlike they themselves and their more sycophantic supporters, Bennett “was not prepared to spend five years in prison for perjury just to protect the financial interests of fools” and told Unilever’s lawyers the truth.

Bennett had refused to do their bidding so Griffin and Dowson wanted him out. Bennett was prepared to go but wanted to be paid for his website design work. Claiming he had invested around £40,000 into the site, he said he was not prepared simply to hand it over to Griffin and Dowson so that they could use it to make more money. “It was my bloody hard work, commitment and money that developed that site into the success it became,” wrote Bennett, “and for Dowson to try and force control of it for his own advantage made me feel sick.”

Money is what it is all about – not for Bennett but for Griffin and Dowson, who, Bennett claims, is paid £120,000 a year by the party. As Searchlight already knew from other sources, Bennett’s dispute with Dowson started over the fact that the telesales staff at Dowson’s call centre earned commission from subscriptions and party memberships and so were telling party members not to renew their membership on the website because it was “unsafe and had been hacked”.

Bennett complained to Griffin who said he would look into it. Shortly afterwards he was contacted by the call centre manager, Kate Hunt, and Dowson. A heated exchange ended with Dowson threatening: “I am a Glasgow/Belfast man as you are about to find out. I was patient simon [sic] but you crossed the line sir, its time some manners were put on you.”

Bennett had crossed Dowson and could not win. As Bennett says in his statement, confirming the conclusions of Searchlight’s investigations: “Jim Dowson now controls just about every aspect of the party structure (including the recently acquired print services) and also the party’s finances with one exception. You’ve guessed it – the website!”

By the Sunday after election day the BNP had a new website up and running, set up by Chris Barnett who, Bennett says, used to run a web server for an online pornographic studio in Birmingham. But the story was not over. Bennett also had control of the party’s Facebook site, with its nearly 26,000 members, and its Twitter feed. He now linked them to a new website of his own on which he exposed Dowson’s financial dealings with the BNP and called for reform of the party.

As well as setting up his own site Bennett posted on various far-right internet forums, disclosing the nefarious ways the BNP operates. On one he revealed that Kemp, the BNP’s website editor who had moved through a variety of party posts, had also threatened Bennett and had once opposed Griffin.

“He threatened to drive to Cornwall, rip my head off off and shove it up my @rse,” wrote Bennett. “I expected better of him too, but I noticed the change in his anti-griffin attitude once he started ‘fund-raising’ for our best friend Jim. From that day on he became very pro-Jim and pro-griffin, even though he knew they planned his downfall at the EU election planning meeting in 2008. They humiliated him, stripped him of his position, income and dignity. He suffered it for over a year until he was offered a scrap of food which he grabbed with both hands and stabbed me in the back to get to it.”

Bennett also removed Griffin’s personal MEP’s website though not the similar websites he runs for Andrew Brons, the BNP’s other MEP, and Richard Barnbrook, the party’s London Assembly member, with whom he has no dispute.

The BNP has taken legal proceedings against Bennett, presumably paid for out of members’ donations, but that has not silenced him. Bennett is gradually adding to his new website, which is likely to become a centre for any moves to oust Griffin from the BNP leadership in the coming months.

Complete nobody reforms unknown band

Okay, hands-up all those who have heard of Joey Smith outside the stuff we've written about him here at Lancaster Unity? No-one? What about the newly-reformed band 2be? Nobody at all? I thought not.

To be honest, we've never had much reason to write about this nobody, though we thought he might rise to become a somebody when he referred to Dewsbury (where he was standing for the BNP in a by-election) as a slum and then appeared on Radio 1 to be racist and talk bollocks with his great pal, naziboy Mark Collett.

If you want to discover anything about anybody, the place to go is, naturally, Google, so I searched for Joey Smith there. Oddly, apart from a couple of items from us, a few from the BNP and a bunch via the BNP's rubbishy Great White Records site, nobody appears to have the foggiest idea who Joey Smith is. Poor old Joey doesn't even seem to have a page on Facebook or MySpace - not an essential in life but I'd have thought it would be useful to a megastar of his talent. But then he isn't a megastar and he doesn't have any talent. Which makes one wonder why the BNP is lauding the reformation of 2be (Joey and one of his mates) as the best thing since, er, Wham.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Smith has just taken over the running of the dire Great White Records, the failed attempt at making Nick Griffin rich through flogging so-called 'nationalist' music to the gullible. Most of the tracks available via GWR seem to have been penned by Griffin himself, which is far from being a recommendation.

GWR and its sister organisation, the BNP's tat-flogging arm Excalibur, are peculiar business models. Both were set up by the BNP at great - indeed, extortionate - expense. GWR, for example, was said to have cost the membership around £50,000 and costs around £2,000 per month to run - an extraordinary amount for a business that sells less, we're told, than ten items each week. Formerly run by the miniature moron who is now the party's treasurer, Dave Hannam, it's obvious to anyone who has ever seen a set of accounts that GWR is a disaster and one wonders why a party that can't even run a small business can think itself capable of running the hugely complex UK economy.

Anyway, back to the staggeringly awful Joey Smith. Smith was briefly famous last year for producing a musical rebuttal to Lily Allen's anti-BNP song 'Fuck you'. I haven't got a lot of time for Lily Allen but anyone who is prepared to state publicly that they loathe the BNP and all it stands for gets my vote and the song itself is pretty jolly. Enjoy...


Smith's response was one of the worst pieces of music I've ever heard accompanied by one of the shittiest bits of film (starring the revolting Mark Collett) I've ever had the misfortune to come across. Why the hell anyone regards Smith as a singer is beyond me - he sounds like a dog in a blender. You can cringe your way through it below...


Smith's biography on the GWR site isn't all that enlightening, nor is it entirely coherent. Take this sample:

'After leaving school he joined various bands before establishing "2BE" with his best friend, a mildly sucessful cabaret duo in his home county of West Yorkshire.'

In fact it seems that Smith dossed around on the dole (except for a brief stint in this unknown band comprising of himself and one other person - or possibly two) until he heard about former BNP-supporter Colin Auty, whose only claim to fame is that he stood against Nick Griffin in a half-hearted leadership challenge. Auty produced another 'nationalist' song in which he bemoaned the fact that England wasn't actually the country thick with village cricket matches, tea on the lawn and country houses that Nick Griffin would have us believe it should be, but a diverse and rich country that embraces multiculturalism. Smith contacted Auty and was immediately grabbed for GWR as an emerging 'talent' of the nationalist music scene (if such a scene could be said to exist).

Since then, Smith's career - never anything to write home about - has taken a nosedive. Weekly sales of his album have dropped to zero and nothing else on the GWR label appears to be selling either. Thus the huge fuss that is being made by the BNP about 2be. And what about 2be? Are we about to discover that 2be are the best band to enter the musical fray since Florence and the Machine? I doubt it. Given that they were still around in their original incarnation in 2006, this 'headline' band doesn't seem to have even a single mention on the internet, beyond the BNP and GWR's own pages and those that pick up those pages as news items.

The BNP has put its leaflet design and printing almost entirely into the hands of Mark Collett, an idiot noted for his constant stream of disasters, from printing leaflets without imprints that the law demands, to chatting up schoolgirls at the BNP conference a couple of years ago. Then it hands over its tat-flogging Excalibur arm to Arthur Kemp, an incompetent though prolific author of white supremacist crap and disastrous husband/father, who has no idea how to run a business that has already collapsed. And finally, it hands over another failed business to a failed singer and attempts to regenerate that business by reforming a failed band. You couldn't make this stuff up if you tried.

We'll let Joey Smith have the last word (more or less):

'I promise you this is just the begining [sic], there's loads more to come.'

Well, there'd better be. There's been very little so far.

Excalibur - what's new in the world of crap?

If there is one thing that the BNP can be relied upon for, it is that it embraces the grotesque in the guise of patriotism, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the catalogue of disasters that is the Excalibur stock list.

For some strange reason (possibly to do with the recent full moon), I found myself perusing the delightful 'What's New' section at the Excalibur site. It was rather like stepping into Harrods - everything was gaudy, overpriced and on many levels deeply offensive. Yet there is a compulsion to go on looking and a feeling akin to that you had when you were a kid and you picked at a scab on your knee. You know it's going to hurt, it's certainly not going to get any better and yet the lure of mingled pain and revulsion is irresistable.

Bizarrely, I expected Excalibur to have made some small concessions to the possibility that non-whites may have suffered a complete mental collapse and joined up after the recent rule change that finally allows them to become members of the party that has been slagging them off and lying about them for years. I was disappointed (though not entirely unexpectedly). The white mug is still there, as is the 'Golly Collection'. And the interminable (and terminally boring) tomes by Arthur Kemp, proving over and over again that the white man is superior in every way to anyone anywhere of any other colour ever, so there.

The white man - in the form of the third-rate market-stall trader Arthur Kemp - is certainly superior in stocking cheap crap for his gullible bargain-hunting customers to waste their hard-earned readies on. Here's an example, and I make no apologies to the companies who produce this rubbish (which, I'm told, are Chinese).

There's far worse. Last year's Red, White and Blue, the BNP's annual piss-up and golly-burning weekend, was a disaster for the party. Even though it was the tenth RWB and was much publicised in party bulletins, it was poorly attended and, we're told, lost a great deal of money. It was also met by a massive demonstration by anti-fascists. Thus, the party is still trying to flog off all the T-shirts and badges it couldn't find buyers for at the RWB, nearly a year later. Free badge or not - it's still shite.

US Neo-Nazi Lure Youth with Free Music Downloads

Another con-trick to promote anti-Semitism and white supremacy

American neo-Nazis are using deceptive free music downloads to lure youth and college students into anti-Semitism, according to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) of the B’Nai Brith organization. It said the new tactics specifically target high school and college students through advertisements in school newspapers.

“While the hate mongers have used stealth tactics before, now they are taking it to the next level by attempting to trick unsuspecting students into logging onto sites that appear harmless, but in reality are promoting music with a white supremacist message,” said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director.

A scheme for free music downloads was advertised in newspapers by Montana resident Kevin McGuire, who operates the Victory Forever racist website. McGuire tricked the school papers by changing his site when he placed ads offering music by independent artists, but after the ads were published, he returned the site to its usual white supremacist format.

The Victory Forever site claims to disseminate “white resistance” music as widely as possible and to “recruit vast minions of white youth to become soldiers in the war for white racial survival.” Its current site features a video of a diatribe against alleged Jewish control of mass media. McGuire also maintains a related website called “Fetch the Rope” that makes available racist CDs, swastika stickers and T-shirts for purchase at prices “cheap enough to hand out to the neighborhood kids.”

Last month, another neo-Nazi placed an advertisement in the student newspaper of Northern Kentucky University promoting Resistance Records, the group’s racist music label, and the music of white power bands.

Children of Hate - Fighting Back Against Racist Parents

Sixteen-year-old Stephan Mills rejected his father's racism despite years of indoctrination.
Psychologists say that is more common than many people think. Stephan's mother says that
thanks to her ex-husband, Stephan "had to relearn [how] to be a civilized human."

When Stephan Mills was 10 or 11, his father sat him and his older sister down after supper one night and told them that if they ever became emotionally involved with someone of color, he would kill them.

"I just nodded in agreement," said Stephan, now 16.

The incident seemed normal to a boy who for years had been steeped in his father's bigotry. Arthur Kemp, a South African white supremacist who has ties to British and American hate groups, indoctrinated his children with racist and anti-Semitic beliefs from the time they were very young. Stephan mostly adopted those views as his own. Several years ago, however, he rejected all that his father stood for. The experience would radically change his life and lead to his ongoing estrangement from his father, who's now divorced from his mother and believed to be living in England.

"Stephan's resentment toward his father is based partly on the fact that, in his sister's words, he had to relearn to be a civilized human," said his mother, Karen Mills. (Karen and Stephan Mills live near Johannesburg, South Africa, and the Intelligence Report interviewed them by phone and E-mail).

There was a lot to relearn. Arthur Kemp "was a very involved and doting father" when his children were small, Karen Mills said. He read to them often, carefully choosing books he felt would reinforce his ideology. Among them were the original "Noddy" series, English children's books that featured Golliwogs, dark-skinned caricatures that were later removed from the text because they were deemed racist. In one of Kemp's favorite Noddy books, the Golliwogs steal Noddy's car. Kemp enjoyed telling his children that the Golliwogs' theft of the car amounted to typical behavior for blacks.

But it wasn't only in books that Kemp found justification for his racism; post-apartheid South Africa offered plenty for him to complain about. "He tried to imprint on the children how bad Africa and everything here was," Karen Mills wrote. After striking workers toppled trashcans, for instance, "Arthur took the children into the main streets of the town and made them walk among the rubbish."

He also forbade socializing with non-white children. If they arrived at a friend's party to find that a black child had also been invited, Kemp made his children go home. When Stephan was six, his father reluctantly took him and his sister to swimming lessons at a public pool where one of the children turned out to be black. "He told us to get out and that we were leaving," said Stephan, who now uses his mother's maiden name. "I was still pretty young so I didn't really understand what was going on."

Kemp's attitude didn't change even when his children's health was at stake. When the family was living in Britain, he plucked his 6-year-old daughter, Joanne, from the dentist's chair rather than allow her to be treated by an Indian dentist, Karen Mills said. As a result, she suffered for three days with a tooth abscess.

When his children grew older, he allowed them to listen only to "white resistance" bands. Rap, especially, was prohibited. Although baseball caps, sneakers, baggy pants and big T-shirts were in fashion, he considered these items "ghetto nigger" clothing and wouldn't let his children wear them. He also relished showing them articles and statistics that purported to prove that blacks were inferior. He contended that blacks could never be race car drivers because they have poor depth perception, that they cannot swim because their bones are too dense, that they are not as intelligent because their brains are smaller.

"The children were actively encouraged to be vocal about their views and to challenge their peers," Karen Mills wrote. "In Stephan's case in particular, this resulted in him being ostracized and made an outcast as he followed his father's lead."

Stephan said he had few friends until his first year of high school. At times, he suffered from depression because his father's brainwashing had so alienated him from his peers, his mother said.

"I wasn't really someone that people wanted to hang around with," Stephan said. "They regarded me as weird because I was constantly talking about Hitler."

Karen Mills said she initially went along with her husband's views to please him, but the marriage grew troubled as he devoted himself increasingly to far-right politics. She refused to read his opus on white superiority, March of the Titans: A History of the White Race, and criticized him in front of their children.

With his marriage collapsing, Arthur Kemp became violent, especially toward Stephan, Karen Mills said. Once, when Stephan was about eight, he hit his son's face until his nose bled and blood spattered on the bedroom wall, she said. He stopped only when the maid's screams brought Karen rushing into the room and she pulled Kemp off Stephan. Later, Kemp allegedly beat Stephan while his mother was at work. The backs of Stephan's legs were so swollen that he could not bend them to get into his bath. "If you ever hit my child again," she told Kemp, "I'll kill you."

Still, she did not report the incidents to the police. "You try to block it out because maybe it's more than you can deal with," said Mills, a lawyer who now works for the South African government. "You hope that it'll resolve itself and turn a blind eye."

Kemp dismissed the allegations from his former wife in an E-mail to the Intelligence Report. "It is all a pack of lies from a mentally ill person," he wrote. "I am disappointed that you would stoop to exploiting a person with severe psychological problems in this way." Karen Mills responded that Kemp has always claimed she's mentally ill simply because she disagrees with him.

Mills still feels guilty for allowing her children to suffer what she now sees as both physical and emotional abuse. "Why couldn't I do something?" she asked. "I just never stood up to him."

Kemp's persistence in forcing his beliefs on his children — along with his disengagement from their lives as he immersed himself in white nationalism — led them to question their father and the values he espoused, Karen Mills said. In a September 2008 post on the anti-racist site Lancaster Unity, Stephan called his father a "racist ass" and said he should be deported to South Africa. He wrote: "I remember almost every night when we would ask for a bedtime story (when most NORMAL fathers would read their children a normal book) he would instead tell us stories about how the white race was all supreme and then read us chapters from his horrible book "March of the White Titans" [sic]. Well dad if you ever read this or even hear about it I just wanted to let you know that I HATE YOU!! You have no idea what i went through at school because of you, you twisted my mind and made my entire childhood a horrible misery."

As his wife and children lost respect for him, Kemp withdrew further from the family. Karen Mills believes that's because they no longer fit his image of the model right-wing family that would help him achieve his political goals. "His political beliefs are the absolute be-all and end-all of his life," she said. "I think the reason why he's cut the children off is they don't conform to his political beliefs and aspirations."

Instead, "he began to seek out people who admired him and particularly his book," she recalled. "The admiration, and in particular the view of him as this great right-wing academic, became his main driving force."

He left the family in November 2006. "Picture this situation," Stephan wrote in November 2008 on Lancaster Unity. "I am fast asleep on thursday morning and when i wake i find that he is gone and then i receive a phone call from him telling me he is on a flight to London… THIS ASSHOLE DIDNT EVEN HAVE THE MANNERS TO SAY GOODBYE TO MY FACE!! I have not seen my father in now [a]bout two and [a] bit years."

Karen Mills said Kemp has had almost no contact with his children since the divorce. "I don't think there's any way that Arthur could fix the broken relationship with Stephan," she said. Nonetheless, "Stephan has gone through something of a catharsis." In addition to his posts on Lancaster Unity, he chose to discuss his father when he was assigned to give a school speech on someone who had influenced him — only he said his father's influence had been entirely negative. Now, his social life is improving, and he has resolved to be as unlike his father as possible. "I am stuck with some of his traits and characteristics — Mom used to joke with me that I have the Kemp laziness gene — but definitely not his political views," he said.

Yet there's no bringing back the years he lost to his father's hate. "You," he wrote to him in the September 2008 Lancaster Unity post, "will never understand what you have done to me."

British National Party required to explain ‘inadequate’ accounts

The British National Party’s former treasurer could face criminal proceedings for delivering “inadequate accounts” to the Electoral Commission

The BNP’s 2008 accounts finally emerged three weeks before the fine for their late submission to the Electoral Commission would have doubled to £2,000.

Like the 2007 accounts, the latest financial statements do not give a true and fair view of the state of the party’s affairs at 31 December 2008 and of the year’s results, in the opinion of Silver & Co, the party’s regular auditors. However this year the BNP had no easy target to blame of the likes of Kenny Smith, one of the leaders of the party’s internal rebellion in winter 2006, who was used as the excuse for failings in both the 2006 and 2007 accounts.

In 2008 the party simply could not get its act together. As Nick Griffin, the party chairman, explained in his introduction to the accounts, soon after June 2008, when Jenny Noble took over as party treasurer from John Walker, it “became apparent that the task of maintaining central office accounts had become too big for any one individual”. So the job was “outsourced” to “an independent Chartered Accountant and Accounts Technician with the aim of presenting acceptable accounts for the accounting year 2009”.

In other words the BNP gave up on the 2008 accounts, though Griffin admitted lamely: “We recognize that it is not acceptable to present inadequate accounts”.

The failure meant that the accounts not only did not give a true and fair view but also did not “comply with the requirements of the Political Parties Elections and Referendums Act 2000 as adequate records have not been made available”. In 2007 the accounts did comply with the PPERA, despite not giving a true and fair view.

A spokesperson for the Electoral Commission told Searchlight that they had “a number of concerns” about the financial statements and the inadequate records referred to in Griffin’s report and have urgently requested more detailed information about the inadequacies from the party’s auditors. The BNP has until 8 January to reply, after which the Electoral Commission will consider what further action to take.

Under the PPERA 2000 the party’s treasurer on 31 December 2008, the last day of the accounting period concerned, commits a criminal offence by not complying with the regulations governing party accounts. Although the 2008 accounts are presented by Philip Reddall, he was appointed BNP treasurer only in autumn 2009. At the end of 2008 Noble was still the treasurer, until she was shunted out in April 2009 to run the Trafalgar Club, a task she appears to have performed with similar lack of success.

Her only defence, if the Electoral Commission decides to prosecute, would be that she took all reasonable steps and exercised due diligence to ensure the accounts were adequate, or that the failures were attributable to the period before she became treasurer and she did her best to put things right.

Despite the unreliability of the accounts, the figures are very interesting as they prove that the BNP has lied repeatedly to its members and donors.

The BNP started its main fundraising drive at the tail end of 2007 and built it up throughout 2008 with a number of appeals for objectives such as the launch of its provocatively racist Racism Cuts Both Ways booklet, the May 2008 election campaign and the notorious Truth Truck appeal.

The accounts show that the party did indeed raise more money than ever before. Income from donations and fundraising activities (the distinction is unclear) amounted to £688,764 compared to £221,456 in 2007.

Nevertheless the party ended the year with a loss of £82,642, an increase of £32,000 over the previous year’s loss. It was also a far cry from the £100,000 profit claimed in June 2009 by Jim Dowson, the militant anti-abortion campaigner behind the BNP’s fundraising efforts, who controls its Belfast telesales centre and other essential party functions. It was Dowson too who supplied the “independent chartered accountant”, John Thompson, who works for Dowson’s various business interests in Belfast, now charged with getting the BNP’s books into better shape for 2009.

The loss left the BNP bankrupt to the tune of £168,233. While that may not be much compared to some political parties, it is a significant proportion of the party’s turnover of under £1 million and the latest in a trend of growing losses. To stay afloat the party continued to raid the funds of its branches and groups, stayed in arrears with its tax and VAT payments and relied on the advance payment of membership subscriptions for the following year.

Far from spending the increased income on campaigning, most of the money has gone to paying party staff and propping up the party’s lacklustre publications and its failed Excalibur merchandising operation.

The start of 2008 had seen Excalibur’s move, to great acclaim, into new premises with a “vast array of new equipment”. At the end of the year Excalibur was out on its ear after Searchlight, in conjunction with Lancaster Unity and Wales Friends of Searchlight, had tracked it down to a Deeside Industrial Estate (click here for details).

According to the accounts, Excalibur’s stock, consisting of tatty, cringe-making and overpriced goods, including white mugs reading “I’m a white mug”, may have been worth £5,000 to £6,000 at the end of the year, but “the very nature of the stock raises questions as to its realisable value”. In other words, no one wants to buy them – even the BNP doesn’t have enough white mugs to buy its white mugs.

The total cost of the BNP’s “commercial activities”, consisting of Excalibur, Identity, Voice of Freedom and unspecified other printed material, amounted to £285,341 compared to income of £130,526, a loss of £125,000.

Staff wages and “professional fees” – a term that includes staff paid without accounting for income tax and national insurance – grew by over £100,000 compared to 2007. The accounts state there were 13 staff. Management and administration costs rose by £96,000 to £263,000. Rent and associated costs of the short-lived Excalibur unit undoubtedly pushed up this total.

Campaign expenditure was a mere £74,580, of which only £41,095 was on leaflets and £14,325 was the cost of fundraising. Back in March 2008 a BNP appeal letter asked for donations towards the 2008 London and local council election campaigns, promising that the London campaign would cost at least £80,000. That now emerges as another lie.

The party did buy £29,000 of equipment, far less than it made out when it moved into the Excalibur unit. It also spent £19,550 on buying vehicles. The figure does not include the “truth truck”, an advertising vehicle and trailer better known as the lie lorry. Contrary to statements in fundraising appeals that the lorry was “bought and paid for”, Searchlight established that the party was renting it from Dowson’s Adlorries.com business. The accounts do not refer to the “Truth Truck” by name but state that the party leases one vehicle under an agreement that does not give “rights approximating to ownership”.

The accounts also reveal some interesting non-financial details. The Young BNP was “defunct” during the year, “with the failed head being removed at the end of the year and replaced by a new team”. The reference is to the summary dismissal of Danny Lake and his replacement by Mike Howson, a man in his mid-forties, after Lake raised concerns about the “psychopathic” behaviour of Mark Bulman, an erratic and alcoholic teenage YBNP member who was also treasurer of Howson’s BNP branch.

The BNP’s security department is described as responsible for running party events “correctly to ensure the health and safety of all those attending”. This is the bunch of thugs who surround Griffin wherever he goes and have scant concern for the “health and safety” of those on the receiving end of their activities.

The South African influence remained strong, with both Arthur Kemp and Lance Stewart on the party’s 15-strong Advisory Council. Kemp is the BNP’s website editor and during 2008 was also in charge of Excalibur dispatch and “developing Voting Membership educational material”. Stewart, a former high-ranking officer in the South African Police, heads the BNP’s “Intelligence Department”.

BNP members, of whom the accounts state there were 9,801 at 31 December 2008, will not understand or care about the shambolic state of the BNP’s finances revealed in these statements, the potential criminal charges faced by the former treasurer or the proof that the party’s fundraising appeals were a pack of lies. They will not doubt go on pouring money into the bottomless and unaccountable pit that is the racist BNP.

Twisted History

When an article of mine looking at the role of African, Caribbean and South Asian troops in the British army during the two World Wars was published on Remembrance Sunday, some people criticised me for “re-writing history in favour of the BME community.

So I thought I’d see what the BNP had to say on the subject, by way of comparison. To be totally honest, I hoped to find ammunition for another article like my original “They’re taking our Spitfires!” After all, making your political opponents look ridiculous is often a good way to defeat them.

Of course I didn’t expect to find anything about non-white troops fighting for Britain in the two World Wars; but I was surprised to find nothing about the white British troops in those wars either. There’s a picture of Churchill on the home page, but no profile – though figures of legend such as Hereward the Wake get one – and he’s not one of the “British Giants”. The section on defending us from invasion has a Spitfire picture, but while there’s an article on Boudicca, there’s no Battle of Britain.

Potteries historians note there’s no RJ Mitchell, nor James Brindley and Josiah Wedgwood. I guess Wedgwood’s politics were wrong, as social and political reformers are notable by their absence. Whole political movements are missing too – nothing on the Chartists or Suffragettes, and for a party supposedly all for the working class, no mention of the Levellers, the Tolpuddle Martyrs or the Jarrow Marchers.

Art and literature are clearly for wimps – Shakespeare gets a mention but not Dickens, Jane Austen, George Eliot or the Bronte sisters; no Wordsworth or Tennyson, and no sign of Dr Johnson (another snub to Staffordshire!). There’s a serious lack of the “Christian heritage” the BNP claim to defend too, but lengthy articles full of glossy illustrations on the “Gods of the Ancient Britons” and Anglo-Saxon gods. No Quakers, no Methodists – all that social reform and concern for justice and the poor must be totally the wrong values for the BNP!

And I thought that was about it – a version of history ending with the British Empire at its height full of the sort of uplifting stories of powerful men taught when a quarter of the globe was coloured pink – a sort of “Boys Own Yarns” meets “1066 and all that”. The makings of a witty little item, perhaps.

But it’s not that simple, and not actually funny at all when you look a bit deeper.

Arthur Kemp moved to Britain from a murky past in South Africa in 1996 and is responsible for writing the BNP’s education and training manuals and the content of their website. He also runs the party’s merchandising arm, Excalibur.

If you are under any doubts at all about the ideology still at the heart of the BNP, you’ll find it within the pages of Kemp’s book, in all its ugliness. Note that this isn’t just a link among many other links – it’s an integral part of the BNP’s history section. Some items on the main site are lifted straight from it – “British Genius” is simply Kemp’s list of clever white folks with the non-Brits cut out.

Still, it might not have done the BNP’s reputation much good to include Kemp’s analysis of the Second World War, where sympathies seem to be very much with the Third Reich. He’s full of praise for Nazi science and medicine, and their banning of vivisection, but draws a discreet veil over the issue of how such “progress” was made with the frequent use of unwilling human “guinea pigs”. Here are a few extracts on what Kemp calls the “Second Great Brothers’ War”.

Dunkirk – HITLER LETS BRITISH ESCAPE

By 26 May – 16 days into the campaign – the Allied army in the north was trapped along a coastal enclave next to the town of Dunkirk. For reasons which have never been explained (the most common belief is that Hitler wanted to let the British escape so as to facilitate a peace with them at a later stage) the German panzers were deliberately stopped outside the town.

So it was that when Winston Churchill became prime minister of Britain on 10 May 1940, his first act the next day was to announce that German cities would be targeted for bombing attacks. The same month the first German cities were bombed by British aircraft. The German air force however avoided bombing British cities, concentrating on the strategically more important airfields and ports, launching the first of these major raids during August 1940.

The Blitz STARTS IN RESPONSE TO BRITISH AIR RAIDS

In the interim, British bombers had been raiding German cities for almost four months: finally, after a bombing raid on Berlin itself, Hitler authorized the Luftwaffe to start bombing British cities in return.

Nazi atrocities are given a sinister positive gloss: note the phrases “granted euthanasia” and “mercy killings” for the murder of disabled people.

In all, some 5,000 retarded and deformed children were granted euthanasia by the German government before the end of the war – with each case being individually reviewed by a specially appointed committee. The policy of administering euthanasia to retarded and deformed children was then also extended to incurably insane adults. Thanks to the German habit of keeping meticulous records, the exact number of incurably insane adults granted euthanasia is known: 70,273. Although the adult euthanasia project was conducted in secret, it was impossible to conceal such things from the German public, and by 1941, news of the mercy killings had been leaked. Growing public pressure on the Nazi government forced the abandonment of the program in that year.

The Concentration Camps

Nazi Germany is however most known for its concentration camps, and particularly those in which large numbers of emaciated and dead prisoners were discovered at the end of the war, and which have become synonymous with any image of that era. The first concentration camps were set up soon after the Nazis came to power, with the best known being Dachau, which is situated to the north of Munich.

These camps were in fact large prisons, and the prisoners were sentenced by civil courts to fixed terms of imprisonment which depended upon the crime committed. These crimes could be overtly political – membership or activism in the banned Communist Party was common – but was also extended to all other crimes, including conventional criminal activities such as theft or robbery. Eventually homosexuals were also interned: although this would only occur quite a while later.

All things said, to have been a Jew in Nazi Germany could not have been a pleasant experience: but, as the over 4.3 million claims against the post war German state from Jews who suffered as a result of this persecution, (by 1998 the German state had paid out over $50 billion in reparations), certainly far fewer died than what is most often claimed. Increasingly, all the evidence urges a complete revision of this aspect of the history of World War Two.

The effect of the Jewish factor was a primary reason for the outbreak of the war and lay behind much of the Allies’ double standards when reacting to German and Soviet aggression at the beginning of the war.

So much for Griffin’s claim to have left the bad old days of Holocaust denial and anti-Semitism behind him; this book so keenly promoted by the BNP also says:

The well known Jewish propensity for business and the ability to accumulate vast amounts of money – a phenomena well known to this day – was the source of much original anti-Jewish feeling.

Whether by deliberate plan or accident, the situation has arisen whereby Jews have ended up dominating the mass media forms of both the USA, and to a slightly smaller extent, of Western Europe. The ownership of the mass media by a small group of Jews is well documented and full details are easily obtainable on the Internet. Given the long association between Jews and assorted left-wing causes, varying from hard-core Communism to all manner of pro-Black activities, it is therefore not surprising that the mass media then also mirrors an uniformly pro-non-White message in its portrayal of current events and opinion. This Jewish domination of the mass media means that what is generally construed as ‘public opinion’ is in fact always presented in a way which is as sympathetic as possible to Jewish interests.

This Jewish domination of the media can, and does, have serious consequences, so vividly illustrated by the 11 September 2001 attacks on New York’s World Trade Centre and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.. These events were triggered exclusively by the unflagging US support given to Israel against the Palestinians. The fact that the USA – and much of the West – continues to support Israel at any cost – including the deaths of thousands of its own citizens – is the surest evidence yet of the power of the Jewish lobby in both the mass media (which generates ‘public opinion’) and of the Jewish lobby’s famed control over the US government, and to a lesser extent, the governments of Western Europe.

Note particularly the claim that “These events were triggered exclusively by the unflagging US support given to Israel against the Palestinians”. Consider for a moment what our local BNP councillors might have to say if such a comment was made by, say, a Muslim student union officer…

And in case you think it’s just the Jews Kemp despises, here are a few words about Christianity, from the people who are telling us they are the true defenders of the faith:

The introduction of Christianity has to count as the single greatest ideological catastrophe to ever strike Europe.

So it was that Christianity came to be the dominant religion of Europe – the first religion to convert by mass murder. The original White religion had never tried to convert followers upon pain of death, and had never waged a war in its name – and as such it was psychologically unprepared to do battle with a Middle Eastern religion which engendered a genocidal fanaticism amongst its followers. Once the Christians had run out of pagans to kill, they turned upon themselves in a violent and bloody fratricidal conflict which saw the Church split and the various protagonists kill each other in a crazed blood lust.

I ’m an agnostic, and my point here is not to defend Christianity, or for that matter Judaism or British strategy in World War Two; it’s to highlight the BNP’s hypocrisy. Their enthusiasm for our “Christian” heritage and sudden keenness to see it promoted in schools is surely exposed here as just another means to divide “us” from “them”.

Remember that this book was written by one of Nick Griffin’s right-hand men, who strongly influences party ideology. The new website might look pretty flashy, but it’s just a new set of sheep’s clothing for the same very dangerous wolf.

The BNP is always happy to steal a good idea when it sees one. The immensely successful and largely-online Obama election campaign in the US was certainly a good idea and, from the constant stream of online communications (or, in the BNP's case, cheap and nasty begging letters) to the appearance of the Obama campaign website itself, the BNP has nabbed the lot, not even bothering to alter it much beyond adding a Churchill here and a porky nazi pretending to be a statesman over there.

The BNP is, as it tells us ad nauseum, the most patriotic party in the known universe. Why then, is it unable to tell when our country's flag is upside-down? The picture below is taken from the BNP's cringeworthy tat-selling arm, Excalibur, now run by and for the appalling Arthur Kemp, white supremacist and former South African spook. The BNP's faux-patriotism is, of course, well-known, and is useful only while some voters are still being taken in by it - but the flag has been on the Excalibur site for months and we're starting to wonder if anybody at the BNP even looks at the Excalibur site, let alone buys the crap that's sold on it.

Or perhaps the flag is upside-down for a reason. An upside-down Union Jack on the high seas indicates a vessel in distress - perhaps one sold via the market stall of a third-rate political party indicates distress that the accounts are long-overdue again and will yet again incur a whacking great fine from the Electoral Commission.

The BNP and UKIP expenses scandals

"Punish the pigs" screamed the BNP's expenses scandal European election leaflets, but those leaflets did not point out that Nick Griffin himself is extremely corrupt...

"The party's treasurer, Michael Newland, resigned in disgust after Griffin used party funds to add an extension to his house. West Midlands fascists who complained that calling in interior designers was not the most effective way to create a new fatherland were purged." ("Fist in the kid glove", "The Observer", July 1, 2001)

"The row first broke out in June as Newland received details of Griffin's recent expenditure. Unbeknown to him Griffin had been freely helping himself to the Trafalgar Club fund, the party's slush fund that had replaced the [original BNP leader John] Tyndall-controlled Welling Club. [The Trafalgar Club is bankrolled by the BNP's wealthier members, who currently pay £15 a month into it, as a recent Kirklees Unity / Lancaster Unity article, "Hate comes to Herefordshire" (October 23) revealed]. While Griffin was later to explain this was in lieu of party expenses, Newland had not been consulted. As much as £8,000 was taken from this fund, including a large loan to extend Griffin's house. Although Griffin later said that the extension provided the party with a conference and dining room, Newland was not impressed." ("BNP gripped by cash scandal", "Searchlight", September 2000)

Although UKIP is not a fascist party like the BNP, and although the BNP is of course a much more racist party than UKIP (as my September 13th Lancaster Unity article, "Do the BNP and EFP leadership still believe in the mass slaughter of billions?" explained, Nick Griffin was allegedly a "close ally" of the late American fascist party leader William Pierce, who openly advocated killing all of the world's billions of non-white and Jewish people), I want to talk about both parties' expenses scandals, because Alan Sked, UKIP's now disillusioned founder, who has described the party he started in 1993 as a group of "ageing xenophobes", was reported in the "Mail on Sunday" of June 6, 2004 to have alleged that UKIP leader Nigel Farage had said to him: "We will never win the nigger vote. The nig-nogs will never vote for us."

Moreover, on the same day, Alan Sked was quoted in "The People" as having said: "They [UKIP] are racist and have been infected by the far right", and the day before, the "Daily Mail" quoted Ashok Viswanathan of Operation Black Vote as having said: "We know that a number of candidates who have stood for UKIP have British National Party links - there's no question there are links."

Of course, there is nothing new about links between the essentially right wing of the Conservative Party politics which UKIP is an example of, and fascist politics. Then Conservative politician Enoch Powell's 1968 "Rivers of blood" speech had a lot to do with the subsequent rise of the National Front, a January 30, 1984 "BBC "Panorama" documentary, "Maggie's Militant Tendency", alleged that several Conservative MPs had far right links, and Nick Toczek's pamphlet, "The Bigger Tory Vote: The Covert Sequestration of the Bigotry Vote" (AK Press, Stirling and San Francisco, 1992), discussed similar alleged links between people on the right wing of the Conservative Party and fascists.

More recently, Nick Griffin's father, Edgar, was sacked from the Conservative leadership campaign of Iain Duncan-Smith, who is very much on the right wing of his party, after the "Sunday Express" exposed his dual BNP and Conservative membership.

So as the expenses scandal will no doubt overshadow the next general election, in which the BNP hope to win its first MP(s), anti-fascists ought to use their leaflets and articles to expose the expenses scandals of both the BNP and UKIP, which I will now explain.

They also ought to expose the alleged close alliance between Nick Griffin and the late William Pierce, because of Pierce's kill billions of people views, which were far worse than Hitler's, but the expenses scandal has damaged the mainstream parties, so exposing the expenses scandals of the BNP and UKIP can only have a negative effect on support for those 2 racist parties.

Nick Griffin using his party members' donations to extend his home is not the only example of BNP expenses scandal type financial impropriety. The September 2008 online "Searchlight" article, "BNP accounts don't add up", discusses BNP income tax and national insurance evasion, which is no different to corrupt MPs evading capital gains tax: "...the BNP continued to get away with paying half of its staffing bill in the form of "professional fees" to avoid national insurance and income tax. Staff paid gross include Simon Darby the party's deputy leader, [BNP chief fundraiser Ged] Munns, [regional treasurer Dave] Hannam, Arthur Kemp who runs the party's educational and training department, and a number of the BNP rebels who complained about the policy."

It says a lot about the kind of extremely selfish, and not at all idealistic people who are drawn to mean-minded fascist parties like the BNP, that once those "rebels" who complained about the BNP's tax and national insurance evasion policy were put on the BNP "gravy train", they shut their mouths and took BNP members' cash.

In a March 2008 "Searchlight" online story, "The [Electoral Commission] watchdog that did not bark", you can read about "...a number of irregularities..." in the BNP's annual accounts, to quote the words of former BNP treasurer John Brayshaw, and as the Norfolk Unity site pointed out in its July 31, 2009 article, "Electoral Commission to fine BNP - again", the Electoral Commission has since fined the BNP £500, and its Regional Accounting Unit £100 for sending their annual accounts in late.

Furthermore, in its October 22, 2009 article, "Party faces fine for filing accounts late", "The Independent" revealed that the BNP was facing a fine of between £600 and £5000 for once more sending its accounts in late.

Moreover, on February 12, 2008, BBC Radio 4's "File on 4" programme, which was discussed in the "Tonight 8 pm, Radio 4 - File on 4 investigates the BNP's finances" Norfolk Unity article of the same day, John Brayshaw alleged that the BNP's finances were run in an illegal way: "In his [2005] letter [to the Electoral Commission], Mr Brayshaw said current party treasurer John Walker and his deputy David Hannam visited his home for a week to complete the accounts.

• "He said he did not help them but claimed he witnessed some unusual activities, namely the shredding of a large number of documents and invoices.
• "Mr Brayshaw said he was told to burn the shredded documents, but kept them because he felt something improper had taken place.
• "A black bin bag containing the shredded documents has been handed to File on 4.
• "It contains fragments of cheques, train tickets, receipts and invoices.
• "Some of the fragments carry the names of Nick Griffin, his parents and even the Trafalgar Club.
• "One unshredded item is a petrol receipt with the name Excalibur - the title of the party's merchandising arm.
• "Under tax regulations all financial records should be kept for six years."

Finally, in a May 29, 2009 "Times" story, "British National Party begs for money in desperate memos", you can read that, "Further questions were raised about the party's funding after Mr Griffin admitted that he paid a £5,000 political donation into his personal bank account without declaring it."

So anyone who voted for the BNP in 2009 because they thought that they were a "clean hands" alternative to the mainstream parties, was as poorly informed as anyone who voted UKIP for the same reason, because, "A close friend of Mr Farage says the Ukip leader uses his [European Parliament] expenses to fund the party..." to quote the "Daily Telegraph" of May 26, 2009; because "The Guardian" reported on June 24, 2009, that Nigel Farage had openly said that he intended to use his European Parliament expenses, "to further the objectives of UKIP back in Britain"; and because in 2000, the European Parliament told UKIP to repay £11,500 of travel expenses which it had used to fund the court cases of the "metric martyrs", who were opposed to Britain being told by the European Union to change its weights and measures system.

Furthermore, in 2007 Ashley Mote, a UKIP MEP in South East England, was jailed for falsely claiming £65,000 in benefits, and UKIP East Anglia MEP Tom Wise was accused of misusing £40,000 of expenses and false accounting, which is why Wise starred in the "Times" articles "UKIP MEP in embezzlement scandal" (February 25, 2007), "MEP 'bought car with taxpayers' funds'" (February 28, 2007), and "UKIP covered up embezzler's trail" (March 4, 2007), which stated: "The UK Independence party deliberately covered up the fact that one of its MEPs embezzled tens of thousands of pounds of taxpayers' money by pretending to be someone else."

Like the BNP, UKIP, whose twelve 2004-2009 MEPs incuded three who have behaved corruptly, has hypocritically moralised about other parties' corruption, as the just cited "Times" article pointed out: "The party has frequently accused the EU of being rife with corruption and criticised other parties' MEPs for enjoying the "gravy train"."

As an already mentioned online "Searchlight" article, "BNP gripped by cash scandal" (September 2000), discussed the then BNP treasurer's opposition to Nick Griffin not keeping receipts for a used car business which he was running, supposedly partly to boost BNP funds, perhaps Tom Wise should in future buy his cars from the BNP's "Arthur Daley" leader, who calls corrupt mainstream politicians "pigs", despite the fact that he appears to be one of the biggest "pigs" in today's British political class.

Lee Barnes - a legend in his own lunchtime

Lee Barnes, the BNP's legal beagle, appears to be off the medication again. You can always tell - he tends to go off his rocker quickly and dramatically and write the most appalling tosh on his blog. And yes, it's inclined to be worse than the usual rubbish he writes. Difficult to believe, I know.

On this occasion, the ever-entertaining Barnes is telling the BNP how it can amend the party's constitution to get around the anti-racist legislation that is forcing it, thanks to the Equality and Human Rights Commission, to become open to people of any colour or origin - like anyone with a brain would want to join that bunch of golly-burners anyway.

Having realised that it would cost a fortune to fight the current case, Nick Griffin has thrown the question of whether to change the rules or fight in court open to the membership of the party for discussion. It's a meaningless debate because the party has no option, though for Griffin there is one very clear and personal reason why he would prefer capitulation. He doesn't want the members to fight because that will involve interminable fund-raising and any funds that are raised should go into his pocket, or possibly into the pocket of Griffin's chum, Jim Dowson, not be frivolously spent on barristers for a case the BNP is destined to lose.

The further - and far more interesting question - is HOW the BNP's constitution is to be changed to make allowance for the fact that it could have people joining who are not exactly welcome, and who would be far from welcome at many meetings/events. And it is this latter problem that the lunatic Barnes has, he believes, solved.

The first of his solutions is to redefine the word 'white' to something akin to the way the word 'black' is used by the Black Police Officer's Association. And once again, almost instantly, he demonstrates precisely why he is not a practising solicitor or barrister - he simply doesn't know the law. As he should know but apparently doesn't, the rules are different for political parties as opposed to unincorporated associations. The latter are allowed to be a good deal more specific regarding the nature of their membership as, for example, the Black Police Officer's Association, because they operate in a distinctly different way. It's worth remembering that the BPOA is, generally speaking, a support network for BME officers (though open to any officer to join) within an overwhelmingly white and sometimes hostile organisation, but the aims of the association may make its more extensive role clearer.

'2.1 The objects of the National Black police Association are to promote good race relations and equality of opportunity within the police services of the United Kingdom and the wider community.

2.2 In pursuance of Paragraph 2.1, the aim shall be achieved by:

(1) Representing the views of all representative members of Constituted Black Police Associations (herein known as BPA's) who are affiliated to the NBPA.

(2) Providing a support to local BPA

(3) Influencing the direction of policies nationally in line with equality issues and antidiscrimination policies in the Police Service and wider Criminal Justice System.

(4) Advising, consulting and intervening on matters of racism nationally which have a negative impact on communities.

(5) Working towards improving relationships between the Police and the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities within the United Kingdom and internationally when appropriate.

(6) Working towards improving recruitment, retention and progression of officers and police staff members within the Police Service.

(7) Assisting the police service in the development of new and existing policies, impacting on BME communities.

(8) Establishing relationships and working with other groups and individuals, whose aims are compatible with or supportive of the NBPA.'

Admirable aims and, more to the point, societally inclusive, which is what the BNP is turning on its head when it shouts about the BPOA being as racist as itself. But really, it's when Barnes seeks to exclude any problematical new members (meaning non-white) that his hypocrisy and insanity shine through like twin rays of sunlight on a cloudy day. Here's his contribution to the debate:

'We impose a five year probationary membership policy where you only get full membership after 5 years continuous membership. We allow the existing members to retain their existing full membership rights, but all new members of all races who seek to join will face a five year probationary period as Associate Members before they are allowed to claim Full Membership Status.

This will ensure that new Associate Members do not have voting rights until they have been a member for five years, and that they will have to pay their membership fees for five years. Then once they have become Full members they then have to wait two years to become a Voting Member.'

A seven-year apprenticeship seems a tad excessive. As far as I know, the other parties - the real political parties whose politics do not revolve solely around race - have a short probationary period, if they have any at all. It's ludicrous to imagine that someone would join the BNP and sit around waiting to be able to vote on party policy for a substantial percentage of the average life span, particularly when such party luminaries as the omnipresent white-supremacist Arthur Kemp and Bonkers Barnes himself appear to dictate policy but have only themselves been party members for less than a year. One rule for them...

Barnes goes on;

'Faced with the reality that they will be forced to fund the BNP for five years before they can be in a position to accrue any full membership rights means we ensure that no one of bad faith will join.

Those that do wish to pay membership fees for five years and then when they are Full Members try and cause problems in the party can be removed on any grounds we wish - other than racial grounds of skin colour grounds etc - and that way we avoid any legal liabities when they are kicked out.'

As Barnes should be aware, that again is not the case. Didn't the founder of the BNP, John Tyndall, sue the party after being wrongfully expelled by the new leader Nick Griffin and his cabal of yes-men? There's no need to answer that. Yes, he did.

As usual, Barnes gets carried away with his own eloquence, doubtless imagining himself striding up and down the courtroom, bewigged and begowned, lecturing the judge on the technicalities and intricacies of the law a la Horace Rumpole, forgetting that his entire knowledge of law involves shouting as loud and as often as he can and not listening to anyone except his own brilliant self. And here he goes again:

'All Associate members and Full Members that join the BNP agree not to invoke, utilise, or seek to base any legal actions upon in regard to any of the following legislation or legal provisions, or any associated case law claims in the civil courts, against any another party members, officers of the party, agents of the party or against the Party itself. Breach of this term at any time during Associate Membership and Full Membership of the party will result in the immediate termination of membership and expulsion from the Party with no right of appeal to any internal party disciplinary review proceedings ;

the Race Relations Act 1976 and all amendents and case law;
the Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003;
the Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2003;
the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006;
the Equality Act 2006 ;
the Equality Act (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2007
the Equality Bill ( or Act when passed into law ) 2009.

This is not an exhaustive list. Any other UK, European or International laws or legislation that the Party Chairman, in consultation with the Advisory Council, believes that damage, or could damage, the internal functions and political mission of the BNP or that may threaten the Health and Safety of members of the British National Party may be added to the list.'

The idea that any organisation can circumvent the law purely on its own say-so is madness. Whether it likes it or not, the BNP is obliged, as are the rest of us, to stay within the law as enacted by Parliament or the EU, and no amount of disclaimers can make a single iota of difference to that fact. I'd go so far as to suggest that an attempt to discard the laws that don't suit the party is unlawful itself and that if this crap makes it into the constitution of the BNP, it will a fine opportunity for an extended romp around the courts at great expense to the party.

'Associate Membership status will not include a right to attend party meetings, party functions or party events such as the RWB unless invited by an duly appointed officer of the party.'

Exclusivity again, though one that, if based on race, should be fairly easy to prosecute. But there is more (and better) to come.

'It will be the duty of appointed organisers to screen all new Associate Members and ensure that they are bona fide applicants for membership of the party. Those Associate Members that any organiser feels are not bona fide applicants for membership will be notified to head office and their activities monitored. After five years of membership if they have not caused the party any problems then all records on their possible problem status will be destroyed once they become Full Members of the party.'

Don't you love that phrase 'their activities monitored'? How, exactly? Will we see the BNP checking new member's emails, as they did when they illegally opened emails belonging to Sadie Graham following their gaining entry to her home by deception? Or perhaps by recording private telephone conversations, as they did those between Sadie Graham and Kenny Smith at the time of the December 2007 rebellion? All outrageously illegal of course and no doubt inspired by the former South African spook Arthur Kemp and his chums.

One final point is raised that Bonkers obviously considers worth a mention:

'Associate Members will be required to disclose previous political memberships, affiliation or membership of the following organisations classified as hostile to the BNP

Strange that there is no mention of the Ku Kux Klan, the British People's Party, the nazi Stormfront forum or any similar groupings of hardcore nazis. But Barnes ends this nonsenical drivel with a phrase that seems to show his arrogance up in all its glory.

'This should do the job nicely I believe.'

It should. As long as one ignores the illegality of nine-tenths of the proposals and the sheer lunacy of the rest.
