Mum of three gets jail for glass attack on pub’s landlord

A MUM-OF-THREE broke down in tears as she was jailed for nine months for glassing a pub landlord.

John Higginson suffered a two-centimetre gash to his forehead when 39-year-old Tracy Manning hurled a beer glass in his face at The Upper George in Crown Street, Halifax.

Bradford Crown Court heard that the landlord had asked her to leave the pub after she and her friends drunkenly chanted support for the BNP and EDL.

Manning was being escorted off the premises by Mr Higginson when she grabbed the glass and threw it at him.

Prosecutor Bashir Ahmed said the landlord followed Manning outside and as he tried to detain her she punched him and poked her thumb into his left eye.

When police arrived at the pub, Manning, of Grisedale Close, Pellon, said: “Yeah, I did it. I’m sorry.”

The court heard Mr Higginson was left with a scar and has suffered sleeplessness and anxiety since the incident in April.

Manning, who has previous convictions for assault, battery and resisting the police, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm,

Her barrister, Paul Fleming, said the offence had been a thoughtless, irresponsible, knee-jerk reaction in drink.

She had stopped drinking in the last four months, he said.

Judge Jonathan Rose said it was an extremely serious offence and told Manning she had been involved in violence too many times.

“You caused serious injury to this man,” he told her.

“He was in no way the author of his own misfortune. This was your fault and your fault alone.”

As well as jailing her, Judge Rose also banned Manning from entering the pub for the next two years.

He said licensees needed to know the courts would protect them when they were victims of violence.

Council tells May: Ban EDL march or face judicial review

Tower Hamlets council is threatening to take the Government to court if it refuses to ban a march by far-Right group the English Defence League.

Leaders are warning of violence if the event goes ahead on September 3 and will seek a judicial review if Home Secretary Theresa May does not ban it. A council source said: "Something must be done to prevent this demonstration. If a judicial review is the only way then that is what we will do."

The EDL told members in an online message to take "our message into the heart of militant Islam within our own country". The message added: "We will go where we want, when we want."

Last week the Home Secretary banned an EDL march in Telford, Shropshire, saying she was acting to protect communities and property.

A Home Office spokesman said: "The Home Secretary can only ban a march in London following a formal application from the Commissioner of the Metropolitan police. No such application has been received. The Home Secretary will carefully consider any formal application, subject to the relevant legal tests."

Tower Hamlets Labour group leader Josh Peck said: "The EDL march should be banned. The police are more than capable of keeping them under control, but that won't stop the tension and anger that could exist long after they have left."

EDL protester starts jail term for affray

A man accused of launching a “flying kick” at a police officer while at the forefront of trouble at an EDL march in the Black Country was today behind bars.

Thomas Blackwell admitted a charge of affray during the EDL protest in Dudley on July 17 last year and was sentenced to one year in prison.

A DVD shown at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday showed Blackwell, aged 25, of Bird Street, Lower Gornal, wearing a white stab vest in the front few rows of protesters at the march as they confronted police.

Judge Michael Challinor told him the DVD showed he had “clearly” been at the forefront of the violence which erupted in Stafford Street on the day.

“You attended this demonstration with the intention of causing disorder and violence,” he said.

“This is clear from the fact you were wearing protective clothing in the form of a stab vest.

“In the course of this disorder you tackled a police officer by using a flying kick to his protective shield.”

Judge Challinor said he had considered the fact that Blackwell would lose his job and as a result, his home if sent to prison but added: “This type of violent behaviour so often prevents law-abiding citizens from protesting peacefully.”

Mr Stephen Thomas, prosecuting, told the court Blackwell had been near the front of the group of EDL protesters who had thrown bottles and bits of metal at police, before launching the “flying kick” at a police officer’s riot shield and swearing at him.

Mr Thomas said the group had also been chanting at the police and naming people who had killed officers, including Raoul Moat just weeks before.

Blackwell, who was unrepresented after having an application for legal aid denied, told the court he was “ashamed” of himself.

“I’ve shamed my family and my girlfriend,” he said. He added that he considered the term ‘flying kick’ an “exaggeration”.

Two others who have also pleaded guilty to affray during the EDL march will be sentenced on May 31.

Scott Bailey, 23, of Central Drive, Gornal, is accused of throwing a fence at police while Anthony Grant, 20, of Georges Road, Netherton, is accused of throwing “stones and large objects.”

During the EDL's violent march in Leicester, "Tommy Robinson" (real name Stephen Yaxley Lennon) spoke angrily about the protests that had met the recent visit to this country by the pope.

Perhaps this further exposure of the true nature of the EDL and its band of thugs, sycophants and would-be terrorists will serve to remind people that the EDL is just the other side of a coin poisoned by bigotry, violence and hatred

Police appeal to find Newcastle brawl suspects

These are the faces of suspected yobs who stormed a meeting of political rivals.

Police are today appealing for your help to identify 10 of those caught on camera at a Tyneside club as members of the left-wing Socialist Workers’ Party began a regular get-together. The yobs forced their way into The Irish Centre, on Newcastle’s Stowell Street and once inside they caused chaos, allegedly throwing punches, setting off fire-extinguishers chanting and hurling abuse.

Police were able to calm the disorder before it escalated into serious violence.

But although six men were arrested, others suspected to be involved in the brawl fled into the night. And detectives investigating the incident have today released images of 10 men, caught on CCTV at the club, they want to speak to.

Det Sgt Rob Ridley said: “We’re trying to establish exactly what happened and who was involved in this incident. "Anyone who recognises the people in the images is asked to get in touch with police as soon as possible.”

Police say they are still unclear about what prompted the disorder, which happened at around 6.45pm on September 22, or who was involved. However, SWP members who witnessed the dust up believe they were deliberately targeted by yobs suspected to have links to the far-right English Defence League.

“I was at another meeting in Newcastle at the time but I received a call from a young lad there who said the Irish Centre was being attacked by EDL,” he explained. “He said as he was going to the meeting 20 or 30 of these fellows came running across the road from Rosie’s bar and tried to get into the Irish Centre. I got there just as the police did and a lot of these EDL thugs had run off.

“The manager and staff were very shaken up. Our members knew straight away they were EDL, a number of them had the badges and T-shirts on. We were just trying to have a meeting. Our meetings are about debating and discussing ideas.

“We want to change the world. But not by beating people up and assaulting them.” And Mr Bakhsh is now urging the public to help police trace the yobs.

“The police have been great,” he said. “These individuals who decided that this was a good idea need to be found.”

But Steve Simmons, from the EDL said although he was aware of the disturbance, he insisted it had nothing to do with the organisation, even if members had been involved.

“As far as I’m aware this was a private disagreement between two groups of lads that may or may not have been EDL members,” he said. “It certainly had nothing to do with the organisation and wasn’t organised by the organisation. Unfortunately we can’t control what our members do in their own lives, even though things like this reflect badly on the organisation.”

Six men aged 47, 45, 43, 33, 25 and 21 have been arrested in connection with the incident. They were all questioned on suspicion of public order offences before being released on bail as inquiries continue.

Violence flares at English Defence League protest in Leicester

Officers wearing riot gear and dog handlers worked to keep a crowd of EDL supporters under control as bricks and coins were thrown at police. The EDL held a static demonstration and Unite Against Fascism (UAF) staged a counter-protest in the Humberstone Gate East area of the city.

At least 1,400 officers were drafted in from 12 other forces to deal with the demonstrations, the city's largest policing operation in 25 years.

EDL supporters arrived from across the country in coaches throughout the morning. They were permitted to gather ahead of the protests in Hotel Street, Leicester, with police monitoring the groups in four different pubs.

With many wearing EDL branded hoodies and carrying banners, they met in and around the pubs, monitored by officers and police evidence gatherers. Some chanted ''EDL, EDL" while others carried banners reading slogans including "Sharia laws will destroy Britain and all our British values''.

Before the protests started, police said one person was arrested for drugs offences and another three people were also arrested.

Earlier this week, Theresa May, the Home Secretary, authorised a blanket ban on marches in Leicester, but the groups were still permitted to hold static demonstrations in Humberstone Gate East in the city from 2pm to 3.30pm. The area was shut down by police today, with rival groups placed either side of metal barriers.

Much of the city centre appeared quiet and some shops were boarded up near to the protest site.

Police were using Section 14 of the Public Order Act which meant officers could take action against anyone who protests outside that place and time. They were also using stop and search powers, and were supported by the dog unit, mounted unit and East Midlands Air Support Unit.

At one point a policeman was put into a buggy-style ambulance on a stretcher. Some EDL protesters were also treated by police medics, it is unclear what their injuries were.

Police said around 1,000 EDL supporters had turned up and approximately 700 UAF demonstrators.

BNP member Paul Thompson served six month sentence for violent disorder

One of the candidates standing in a council by-election next week is a convicted football hooligan, The Northern Echo has learned.

British National Party member Paul Thompson was convicted and jailed for six months for violent disorder between two sets of thugs. He also has a previous conviction for criminal damage after hurling stones through the shop window of a left-wing book store.

Mr Thompson is one of four candidates who is standing for the Darlington Borough Council by-election in the Cockerton West ward. The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Jenny Chapman, following her selection at the town’s new MP.

Mr Thompson stood in the 2003 and 2007 council elections, both times in Darlington’s Northgate ward. In 2003 he was last with 151 votes and again in 2007 with 126 votes. A Darlington Borough Council spokeswoman confirmed that Mr Thompson was allowed to stand.

People are barred from standing as a candidate in council elections if they have been sentenced to more than three months imprisonment within the previous five years. Mr Thompson was jailed for violent disorder in 1998. He was one of nine men involved in trouble between Darlington and Cardiff City supporters in May 1997.

His earlier conviction happened in 1994, when he was given a 12-month conditional discharge.

Ken Booth, regional organiser for British National Party, said the charges were irrelevant and Mr Thompson was entitled to stand for public office. He added: “It is a long time ago. You get over it and move on. He is not breaking any law by standing, but obviously someone wants to drag up the past. Is this a topical issue? I don’t think so. Everyone deserves a second chance.”

Mr Thompson has also previously been criticised by the family of a man murdered in a street attack in 2001 after he produced leaflets attacking the three-year sentence given to his killer. People intervened when he handed out the leaflets because they were of a racist nature.

Mr Booth called the accusations “fictitious and bogus”.

Also standing in the by-election are Jan Cossins, for the Labour Party, David Davies, for the Conservatives, and Brian Jefferson, for the Liberal Democrats.

Mrs Cossins is chairman of Cockerton East Community Partnership and a governor at Branksome School. Mr Davies is a former UKIP candidate and husband of Conservative councillor Kate Davies. Mr Jefferson is chairman of Growing Older Living in Darlington.

The election takes place on Thursday. Labour will maintain its overall control of the council whatever the result of the election. It now has 28 councillors, the Conservative party 18 and Liberal Democrats six.

Police violence and arrests at Bolton

Above is a video of an 89 year old World War 2 veteran and anti-war campaigner Bertie Lewis being knocked down by riot police at the Bolton Stop the EDL protest. He served in RAF Bomber Command against Hitler and many of his comrades were killed.

The incident happened while he was protesting against the misnamed English Defence League an extreme Islamophobic fascist organisation, which had come to Bolton to stir up anti-Muslim hatred. The EDL is made up primarily of soccer hooligans. When Bertie Lewis was knocked down by the police in the Town Square of his home town in Bolton on Saturday, he was part of a group of other pensioners and disabled people.

In the film above, you can see Bertie brutally shoved aside (at 26 seconds) by a police officer carting someone off.


A counter-demonstration organised by Unite Against Fascism mobilised over 2000 anti-fascists which prevented the EDL from rampaging through the Asian areas of Bolton. The EDL had previously rampaged through Luton and Stoke assaulting Asians, attacking property and cars. White people who objected were denounced as "race traitors".

Numerous anti-EDL demonstrators were arrested - some extremely brutally - with the police deliberately targeting protest leaders. The film above may be useful for those who intend to take action against them. The video can be downloaded from here.

The police are not currently banned from joining the EDL as they are with the BNP.

Man Stabbed by EDL Supporters

A man was stabbed in the shoulder after trying to stop his friend being attacked outside a Middleton pub. It happened outside the Oddfellows Arms on Oldham Road at about 11.30pm on 20 March 2010

The scuffle broke out after English Defence League supporters were behaving aggressively and abusing customers at the pub. They were asked to leave the pub by one of the victims, who escorted them outside. He was then jumped and his friend, 49, intervened. After the scuffle had ended and the two men returned inside, the victim realised he had suffered a stab wound to the back of his left shoulder. It is believed a cutthroat-type blade had been used.

Police are now appealing to anyone who witnessed the attack to come forward.

The first offender was white, about 5ft 6in tall, in his late teens or early 20s and of a chunky build. He had short black hair and was wearing a blue EDL t-shirt with 'No Surrender Al-Qaeda' and an England badge emblazed on the front. The second man was taller, with dark hair and wearing dark-rimmed glasses and a light jacket. The third offender was also wearing a sweatshirt with an EDL logo. Two of the men had England flags around their waist.

Detective Constable Wayne Hagan, of Rochdale CID, said: "Sadly, alcohol-related violence like this gives pubs in our communities an unwanted, and unfair reputation, as the majority of pub-goers do behave responsibly. Some people are intent on causing trouble and we need to identify these men and lock them up where they cannot hurt anyone else.

"I would appeal to anyone who has information to come forward. The pub would have been quite busy at that time so there maybe a lot of potential witnesses who could be key to our investigation. I would also stress that there is no racial element to this attack whatsoever, and appears to be a totally unprovoked attack by these men who, fuelled by alcohol, were determined to cause trouble."

BNP fights extremism strategy

Party leaders seek to 'derail' government scheme to combat violence

British National Party leaders were under fire yesterday after it emerged that they were plotting to "derail" a government programme aimed at quashing violent extremism throughout the UK. A leaked email to BNP councillors revealed that the party is running a secret campaign to destabilise the Prevent strategy, set up three years ago to tackle "the specific problem of a small minority of young Muslims being attracted to violent groups".

The Home Office strategy, originally called "Preventing Violent Extremism", pledged £45m for local initiatives designed to coax youngsters away from "individuals preaching hatred and violence in the name of Islam" and integrate them into their communities. However, it was "rebranded" last year to take in wider issues, including the threat from political extremism, following complaints that the programme stigmatised the Muslim community. Councils have now been ordered to establish their own Prevent strategies to combat extremism in their areas.

The Secretary of State for Communities, John Denham, said: "At the current time, the greatest terrorist threat remains that from al-Qa'ida-linked violent extremism. At the same time, we also need to tackle other potential support for violent extremism, including that from racist and fascist groups."

The BNP has complained that the modified strategy is now allowing councils to target the party and it members – and it has enlisted its councillors in an attempt to undermine the strategy. In a councillors' bulletin last month, the BNP councillor liaison officer, James North, told colleagues: "Due to complaints that [Prevent] was picking on Muslims they widened it out to include all extremism and implied that they were also targeting right-wing extremism. In some areas they focus their energy on areas where we are active – eg target wards.

"If you have any knowledge of a Prevent strategy in your area could you please send information back, so we can build a more widespread picture of areas that are affected and then we can get local groups active to derail it before it takes hold."

Mr North said yesterday that the BNP wanted to "derail attempts by the Labour regime to link the BNP to right-wing violent extremists". He added: "The email asks BNP councillors for details of all Prevent attempts to link the BNP to extremists so that the BNP can take measures to circumvent these false allegations and smears." But the anti-fascist organisation Searchlight called on the BNP to explain why it was trying to destabilise a government policy.

"This project protects the public from terrorists and violent extremists," a Searchlight spokesman said. "The fact that the BNP is trying to undermine it speaks volumes about its organisation and its membership. If it is a truly peaceful and democratic organisation, what is it afraid of?"

My interest in BNP member Vivienne Parker was originally elicited by her following internet posting in which she racially abuses Blacks in the most repugnant and vitriolic of terms:

All of Africa stinks,esp.sub-saharan African which oozes with wickedness and evil behaviour. Taking blacks into civilized countries is a big mistake and the price will be paid in perpetuity as blacks scrounge off welfare and predate decent white people.”

Vivienne Parker’s attack on British Ghurkha soldiers

Alas, for purveyors of civility this is not an isolated, random outburst by Downham Market-resident Vivienne Parker. Not content with drubbing Black people with her caustic BNP tongue, Vivienne Parker attacks Ghurkha soldiers, who have so bravely served our country, in her following posting on The Times website:

“I do not agree with allowing Gurkhas to settle in the UK. They get a contract of service so why should we then be saddled with them and their grannies. Another huge financial drop on the UK taxpayer. If this becomes the normal I think its time to end Gurkha recruitment to the British army for good. Viv Parker, Norfolk, UK”

Given that only a few hundred Gurkhas will eventually settle in the UK and given that they defended our country, why is Vivienne Parker getting bent out of shape by the prospect of a small number of Gurkha soldiers taking up British citizenship? Because the Gurkhas are non-White, naturally Vivienne Parker and the BNP hate them for this random accident of birth.

Vivienne Parker’s racial abuse of Asians and Muslims as “evil” and “parasites”

In numerous postings on the BNP website and elsewhere, Vivienne Parker goes on to racially abuses Asians, Pakistanis and Muslims as “parasites” and “evil”. These are quite sweeping and profoundly racist statements. Alarmingly, Vivienne Parker (who partly resides in Spain) has unsupervised access to physically disabled persons and pensioners. In light of Vivienne Parker’s racist views we wonder how such a person is permitted unfettered access to such vulnerable groups.

Refuting the racist lies of Vivienne Parker’s BNP postings

Like all good fascists and racists, Vivienne Parker has a severe aversion to empirical facts and an inherent, indisputable inclination towards lies, hyperbole and hysteria (a BNP specialism). In this section, we dissect and refute Vivienne Parker’s racist claims against Asians, Pakistanis and Muslims made on the BNP website in her two following postings:

Unlike Vivienne Parker, the UK Statistics Authority breakdown the category ‘Asian’ and accordingly provide empirically-grounded figures for each of the main three Asian sub-categories as follows:

Indian women (comprised of Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and Christians): average 2.4 children

Pakistani women: average 3.4 children

Bangladeshi women: average 3.6 children

Vivienne Parker Racist Claim No. 3: “with Islamics having more than one wife”

The number of British Muslims in polygamous marriages does not even reach one-tenth of one percent of all Muslims in the UK! Pejoratively referring to Muslims as ‘Islamics’, Vivienne Parker again does not provide any evidence for her unfounded lies. In fact, based on Department for Work and Pensions figures for the number of polygamous marriages in the UK (not all them Muslim), only 0.06% of Muslims are estimated to be in polygamous relationships! The actual figure could be even lower. Vivienne Parker Lie No.3 refuted.

Vivienne Parker Racist Claim No. 4: “How much is that in child support”

Vivienne Parker doesn’t know what ‘child support’ is! No one in the UK can claim child support from the government! Child support is a private arrangement between two private citizens using their own private funds! Child support payments arise when a child’s parents separate, live apart and the child lives with one of their parents. One parent pays money to the other parent with whom the child lives. Once again Vivienne Parker exposes her own ignorance (coupled with a great deal of arrogance to make any of her claims in the first place). Vivienne Parker is trying to imply, based on her lie that the average British Pakistani family has seven children (refuted above), that Pakistanis are a drain on public resources by claiming ‘child support’ for their mythically large families. Vivienne Parker Lie No.4 refuted.

Again, Vivienne Parker is trying to assert that Asians and Muslims are sponging off the welfare state by claiming family allowances and child allowances. This is another Vivienne Parker lie. Research by the famous and respected Fawcett Society reveals that 30% of people from ethnic minorities eligible for benefits do not receive them; that Pakistani and Bangladeshi families are more likely to be ineligible for child benefits and child tax credits; and, that black women have the least access to free childcare. Vivienne Parker Lie No.5 refuted.

Mad dogs and BNP members: Vivienne ‘The Patriot’ Parker tells us that Spain is better than Britain!

It is clear that Vivienne Parker has spent too much time in the hot Spanish sun. The distinct image of ‘Mad dogs and BNP members’ irreverently comes to mind. In addition to her online rants, perhaps Vivienne Parker should stop writing letters to her local newspaper to tell us how much better Spain is then Britain and how unbelievably cheap property in Spain. One would hazard a guess that the Spanish don’t exactly go out of their way to invite BNP parochialites such as Vivienne Parker to their Moorish-tinged Iberian shores. Further, if Vivienne Parker doesn’t like immigrants in Britain, then she’s definitely not going to the fact that immigrants make up a greater proportion of the Spanish population than here in the UK.

Can Vivienne Parker self-hypnotise herself out of her own BNP stupidity?

Vivienne Parker claims to be a ‘transpersonal hypnotherapist’ providing past-life regression services to those persons she describes as having “deep rooted problems and issues”. This raises the serious prospect that she has access to vulnerable persons who could be exploited by Vivienne Parker’s racist agenda. Peter Tierney faces court date for assaulting anti-fascists

In April, I reported on an attack perpetrated by Merseyside BNP activists Steve Greenhalgh and Peter Tierney [left], which took place in Liverpool City Centre on St George's Day. Greenhalgh and Tierney used an upended table and a folded camera tripod respectively as weapons against anti-fascists who had routed their leafleting with counter-leafleting in and around their location.

Despite Tierney's lies, which got one anti-fascist arrested for "assaulting" him, he was ultimately taken into custody and released on bail. The arrested anti-fascist was also bailed, but only after being held in the same station as Tierney and subsequently followed home by a car full of BNP activists threatening "we know where you live, we’re going to fucking kill you."

On Monday, Tierney answered his police bail at St Anne's Street police station. The bail conditions for both Tierney and the victim he claimed to be his assailant included a ban on entering the City Centre, and those conditions were reasserted. Tierney is set to face trial at the Liverpool Magistrates Court on the 5th of August and, as the Merseyside BNP blog reports, BNP activists "will be holding a 2nd Demo outside of the Magistrates Court as he attends." Their intent is to show that they "will not be intimidated and bullied by the state" who have "set a dangerous precedent that decent members of the public CAN NOT defend themselves against attackers." They are in fact demonstrating that their party stands in defence of savage violence by those who grap weapons when faced with non-violent opposition.

As of yet, no counter-demonstration has been arranged to face the fascist contingent outside the courthouse. Even if, as in countless prior Liverpool demonstrations, their numbers barely scrape fifty, they need to be opposed. Merseyside anti-fascists need to show that we will not accept fascist violence under the transparent pretext of "self-defence" against the non-violent, and Tierney needs to learn that the opposition and dissent he so hates will not simply fade away because he picks up a weapon.

Facebook removes Italian neo-Nazi pages

Facebook said yesterday it had removed several pages from its site used by Italian neo-Nazis to incite violence after European politicians accused the internet social networking site of allowing a platform for racists.

Seven different group pages had been created on the site with titles advocating violence against gypsies.

"The existence of these groups is repulsive," said Martin Schulz, Socialist leader in the European Parliament, which lodged a complaint with the California-based company.

Facebook said it had removed the pages because they violated its terms of use.

"Facebook supports the free flow of information, and groups provide a forum for discussing important issues. However, Facebook will remove any groups which are violent or threatening," it said in a statement.

Italy's Roma, or gypsy, communities have been subjected to several attacks in recent months, while Italy's media has focused attention on violent crimes committed by gypsies. The government has dismantled illegal shantytowns where many Roma live.

Yet, we can reveal that in early to mid 2006 Andrew Gatward purported to be a convert to Islam and devout Muslim on an Islamic website, IslamiCity.com! Registered as ‘jajabinks101’ and signing off his posts as ‘Andy’, Andrew Gatward gave the appearance of an enthusiastic convert to Islam. Not only that but he claims that as a Muslim he is more than prepared to fight and kill Americans, and calls for George Bush and Tony Blair to be murdered.

But, we wonder whether Andrew Gatward faked being a convert to Islam or subsequently left Islam and ceased to be Muslim. It is clear from our research that both prior to and after 2006 Andrew Gatward posts numerous racist anti-Muslim postings on the internet.

Posting as UKpatriot on another Muslim website, islamicawakening.com, Andrew Gatward abuses Muslim users on the same thread with the following comments:

“This is our country ... Why dont you just leave OUR country and practice what you believe in freely elsewhere? ... The UK is waking up to this silent muslim invasion and I promise while im alive i would fight to the death ... Openly posting as Andrew Gatward, he then issues the following warning to British Muslims in the guestbook of another website:

It is in the following post on Islamicity.com that BNP organiser Andrew Gatward calls for George Bush and Tony Blair to be killed:

On the same thread, Andrew Gatward then abuses another poster whom he accuses of being a current or former US army soldier.

Interestingly, a year ago, three months after he joined the BNP, Andrew Gatward wrote an article, US and British invasion and oppression, for the Iraqi Arab news agency, Al-Rafdean. Writing on the Iraq war, Andrew Gatward states: “I pray to Allah, that he grants an end to this hate and killing”. We wonder if Andrew Gatward is still pretending to be a Muslim or simply changes tack to suit his perceived audience.

How does Andrew Gatward view himself?

Andrew Gatward describes himself on his main blog, ukpatriot-keepbritainbritish, in the following somewhat gentrified terms:

“I am a person who is loyal to his country..i am polite and respectful when speaking to anyone about their politics or religion, and respect the fact that their views may not fall in line with mine..I am not a racist, but i am loyal to my country and its people, no matter what their colour or religion, but i want immigration stopped, and those immigrants already here illegally, found and deported..I am devoted to the idea that anyone coming here to work or live, should be loyal first to the country, respectful to the laws, and tollerant of our traditions. Andrew Gatward’s ideal description of himself certainly does not tally with his actual behaviour as demonstrated by his various emails and internet postings. Contrary to his assertions about himself, Andrew Gatward is clearly impolite, racist, disrespectful about the politics and religions of other people as well as disrespectful to British law. Combined with a fascination for nazi memorabilia and bayonets and a possible fake conversion to Islam whilst abusing Muslims through his racist postings, Andrew Gatward is indeed a strange character.

Andrew Gatward’s campaign of threats, harassment and abuse against John Taylor

For the past 24 years, John Taylor has served his local community as the Labour councillor for the Dukinfield ward in Tameside, Greater Manchester. Yet, his area has been repeatedly targeted by the BNP. Due to his electoral successful, John Taylor has been subjected to a consistent and targeted campaign of harassment by the BNP. The intensity of this harassment has been such that the local courts granted John Taylor a legal injunction against failed BNP candidate Roy West who stood against John Taylor.

Recently, Andrew Gatward has taken a leading role in co-ordinating the BNP’s campaign of harassment against John Taylor. Within a space of four days, from the 1st July to 5th July 2008, Andrew Gatward bombarded John Taylor with at least twenty emails. Andrew Gatward is a pure political opportunist. Andrew Gatward was quoted as saying: “The party hopes that this unpleasant episode will soon be at an end and activists can concentrate on the real business of saving Britain”. For this act of political treachery, Andrew Gatward has been dubbed ‘Gatward the Turncoat’ by his rival BNP activists.

According to our source, Andrew Gatward was talked back into joining the Griffinite faction of the BNP by the BNP’s intelligence officer, Arthur Kemp (a former intelligence officer for the old racist South African regime). However, it was this act of betrayal towards his former rebel colleagues that led to Andrew Gatward falling out with millionaire BNP businessman Roger Robertson, one of the main financial backers of the Sadie Graham faction. From mid-2007 Roger Robertson was bankrolling a BNP scheme whereby Andrew Gatward was to start a BNP organic farm. The idea was to commercially produce organic vegetables and attempt to flog them to BNP members and supporters via the BNP website. Did Andrew Gatward lie about his BNP membership?

Our sources tell us that Andrew Gatward joined the BNP in March 2007. Yet, in a March 2007 posting on The Times website, Andrew Gatward claimed not to be a BNP member:

Another source of ours claims that Andrew Gatward may also be moonlighting as ‘Tony’, the BNP’s organiser for Boston Holbeach and Spalding (also in Lincolnshire) and operator of the racist pro-BNP blog, The Lincolnshire Patriot. Our source points to four circumstantial factors that leads our source to believe that ‘Tony’ may also be Andrew Gatward. Firstly, the highly idiosyncratic writing style and grammar employed by Andrew Gatward on his main blog, ukpatriot-keepbritainbritish (as well as in his other numerous internet postings) is virtually identical to the writing style and grammar used by ‘Tony’ of The Lincolnshire Patriot blog. This is demonstrated in the blockquote below which compares the ‘Profile’ segment on Andrew Gatward’s ukpatriot-keepbritainbritish blog with the ‘Welcome’ segment on Tony’s The Lincolnshire Patriot blog. What the reader will clearly see from the blockquote, apart from the very similar writing styles and childishly over the top bombastic rhetoric, is that in any sentence that both Andrew Gatward and ‘Tony’ begin with the capital letter ‘I’ any subsequent use of the letter ‘i’ is in lower casing or if a sentence is not begun with ‘I’, if that sentence later then uses the letter ‘i’, again ‘i’ is used in lower case:

Conclusion

Clearly Andrew Gatward is a potentially dangerous person. He has unequivocally stated in his emails that he is prepared to commit violence against John Taylor, a grandfather of two. Further, let’s not forget his open admission that he’s prepared to fight Americans and raises the prospect of violence against non-Whites and Muslims in Britain. From our understanding, John Taylor has discussed the Redwatch death threat and Andrew Gatward’s abusive emails with the police. Let’s hope that arrests soon follow. The lessons of World War 2 and the Spanish Civil War serve as bitter reminders as to why we should not forget the reality of the BNP as fascists and racists intent on achieving their goals by any means necessary. ¡No Pasarán!

Prince Charles urged to halt racist abuse of soldier

The Prince of Wales has been urged to step down as Colonel of the Welsh Guards unless he can intervene to end the alleged racist abuse of a Jamaican soldier serving in the regiment.

Private Kerry Hylton is taking the army to an employment tribunal over a series of incidents at his barracks in Birdcage Walk, close to Buckingham Palace.

Hylton’s solicitor has written to Prince Charles complaining that letters to the commanding officer of the Welsh Guards detailing the abuse allegations have gone unanswered.

The tribunal has been told that Hylton, a chef with the Welsh Guards, has been repeatedly called a “n*****”, a “dumb-arsed n*****”, a “black bastard” and a “black c***”. His wife and children have been left in fear after two incidents in which the locks on the doors at the family’s married quarters were superglued shut.

When Hylton complained that a noncommissioned officer who racially abused him had also punched him, leaving him requiring hospital treatment, he was himself arrested by the Royal Military police.

The allegations of racism are likely to concern Charles, who in 1986 highlighted the race issue among the Queen’s household troops when he remarked that there were no black faces at the Trooping the Colour ceremony.

In his letter to the prince, John Mackenzie, Hylton’s solicitor, wrote: “It seems to me that your regiment has no interest in safeguarding the interests of the ethnic minority private soldiers acting as chefs in the battalion.”

Although Hylton is a private in the Royal Logistic Corps rather than a guardsman, he works full-time for the Welsh Guards.

Mackenzie’s letter went on: “In view of your constitutional position, I write to urge you to cease to act as Colonel of the Welsh Guards until the regiment can show that it takes seriously its obligation to ensure that ethnic minority soldiers are treated fairly.”

Hylton’s wife Andrea said that she and her two young children, Andre, 3, and four-year-old Kerryann had been left feeling “frightened and unwelcome” by the attacks on their army flat. She thought they had been generated by the racism claim.

After Charles complained 20 years ago about the lack of ethnic minorities in the guards regiments, they recruited Richard Stokes, their first black soldier. But Stokes quit the Grenadier Guards, despite encouragement from Charles to remain, after suffering racist attacks including verbal abuse similar to Hylton’s.

The Ministry of Defence said: “The army has a zero tolerance policy to racism and takes allegations of racism very seriously.” Clarence House declined to comment.

A family fled war-torn Angola only to face terror at the hands of a "seething" race-hate mob in Britain.

Yesterday 11 thugs were locked up for their part in the terrifying attack - aimed at driving their black neighbours out of an estate just four days after they moved in. The racists, some armed with baseball bats and crowbars, targeted Alvaro Vintem, his wife Maura Adriano and their three children as they enjoyed a barbecue with family and friends to celebrate a cousin's 10th birthday.

Alvaro, 30, said after the mob was sentenced: "I came to England for help and then this happened. At the time I remember thinking, 'Oh my God what have I come to?'"

The thugs stockpiled weapons in the garden of a house nearby, then threw missiles including bottles, sticks, cans and bricks at the family cowering in their front garden. One little girl begged: "Please don't let them kill me."

The racists attacked their victims' cars, causing damage running into thousands of pounds. They screamed "Get home you bunch of f***ing n*****s" and "Back off you black b******s, you don't belong here."

One witness claimed the jeering mob then got hold of the barbecue and threw it at the windows of the home in an attempt to set fire to it after the women and children had taken shelter inside. The men at the birthday party kept the thugs out of the house. The court was silent as video footage taken by a guest revealed faces twisted with rage. Seven racists have still not been traced.

Judge Peter Hunt said at Leeds crown court: "What's depressingly striking is the seething aggression demonstrated by so many."

Prosecutor John Topham told the court: "The Angolan family were terrified... children and women were terrified and crying. Some of the white residents on the estate were hostile to the presence of a black family. There were discussions in a cafe in the locality with the idea of forcing the family to move."

The family's arrival on the Seacroft estate in Leeds was marked by a stone through a window. Later, their door was broken down, windows smashed and their TV stolen. Then followed the 30-minute riot which erupted after their guests - including eight children - had arrived.

Alvaro, who came to the UK in 2000 and has now moved to another part of Leeds, said the mob "got what they deserved" after the judge locked them up. The father of three said when his girls now see a group they think they're going to be attacked.

The 11 pleaded guilty to violent disorder yet denied racist intent, but the judge declared race hate was the only motivation. David Holdsworth, 34, described as showing "extreme violence", was jailed for three years and seven months. Leanne Montgomery, 19, who "lost control" battering a car, was handed three years in a young offenders institution. Andrew Boylan, 25 and Liam Bellwood, 20, were jailed for three and a half years.

Other terms were Wayne Purchase, 31 - two and a half years' jail; Darren Kaye, 19 - 21 months in a young offenders institution; Jonathan Wilson, 19 - two and a half years in a young offenders institution; Patrick Burns, 34 - two and a half years; Wayne Lorimer, 21 - two and a half years; Glynn Milburn, 33 - 12 months; and Duane Watts, 24 - two-and-a half years.

EU adopts measure outlawing Holocaust denial

The European Union approved legislation Thursday that would make denying the Holocaust punishable by jail sentences, but would also give countries across the 27-member bloc the option of not enforcing the law if such a prohibition did not exist in their own laws.

The draft law, which EU diplomats called a minimalist compromise, gained approval after six years of emotional negotiations, during which countries with vastly different legal cultures struggled to reconcile the protection of freedom of speech with protection of their citizens from racism and hate crimes.

The legislation calls for jail terms of as much as three years for "intentional conduct" that incites violence or hatred against a person's "race, color, religion, descent or national or ethnic origin." The same punishment would apply to those who incite violence by "denying or grossly trivializing crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes."

EU officials said that the law was notable for what it omitted.

Fearing that the legislation could be hijacked by groups trying to right historical wrongs, a majority of EU countries rejected a demand by the formerly communist Baltic countries that the law criminalize the denial of atrocities committed by Stalin during Soviet times. As a political gesture, however, Franco Frattini, the EU's justice commissioner, said the EU would organize public hearings on the "horrible crimes" of the Stalin era in the coming months.

The scope of the law also does not cover other historical events, like the massacre of Armenians during the First World War by Ottoman Turks, which Armenians call a genocide. Instead, the legislation recognized only genocides that fall under the statutes of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, like the mass killing of Jews during World War II and the massacre in Rwanda in 1994.

There will be no Europe-wide ban on the use of Nazi symbols, one of the original intentions of the law's drafters, which gained force two years ago after the release of photographs of Prince Harry of Britain wearing a swastika armband at a costume party.

EU officials involved in the drafting of the law, which needed unanimous approval, said consensus had been achieved by allowing national laws to take precedence. Britain, Sweden and Denmark, which have particularly libertarian traditions, pressed for wording that would avoid criminalizing debates about the Holocaust and would ensure that films and plays about the Holocaust, like Roberto Benigni's award-winning "Life is Beautiful" and Mel Brooks's musical "The Producers," were not censored.

The legislation also states that individual countries' constitutional protections of freedom of speech would be upheld, meaning, for example, that publishing caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad in Denmark, where freedom of speech is enshrined in the Constitution, is permitted under the law.

Denmark and Britain also pressed successfully for a provision to ensure that attacks on religions are covered only when they are of a xenophobic or racist nature.

Anti-racism groups said the law had been watered down to the point of rendering it toothless. Michael Privot, spokesman for the European Network Against Racism, said, for example, that a person publishing a pamphlet denying the Holocaust could do so with impunity in Britain, while still facing prosecution in France. "We have ended up with a lowest common denominator law," he said.

Laws against denying the Holocaust exist in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany and Spain, and in many cases the national legislation goes much further than the new EU rules. In a recent high-profile case, the British historian David Irving spent 13 months in jail in Austria for challenging the Holocaust before being released in December.

Two years ago, Luxembourg tried to use its EU presidency to push through Europe-wide anti-racism legislation, but it was blocked by the center-right government then in power in Italy on the grounds that it threatened freedom of speech. The proposed law was considered too politically difficult to pass until it was taken up by Germany, current holder of the EU's rotating presidency, which has called it a historical obligation and a moral imperative.

Friso Roscam Abbing, spokesman for Frattini, the EU's justice commissioner, said it was inevitable that the bill be diluted, given the need to reconcile so many different political and legal cultures. But he added: "We still think it is useful and sends a strong political signal that there is no safe haven in Europe for racism, anti-Semitism or Islam-phobia."

But Muslim leaders accused the EU of having double standards, arguing that it protects established Christian religions and outlaws anti-Semitism while doing nothing to defend Muslims against defamation.

Backlash against BNP

Church leaders have come together to condemn the BNP over the far-right party’s latest attempts to claw their way into the town hall. Eight candidates are standing in next month’s local elections, the largest contingent ever in Tameside.

The Rev John Holland, of Christ Church, Ashton, said: "I cannot support anything that breeds division and resentment between people of different cultural backgrounds. It is disappointing to see Waterloo as one of the wards chosen to field a candidate. We enjoy a very good relationship with people of other faiths. In fact, the church is being used this weekend for a Hindu funeral. The BNP are a divisive element. We are all God’s creation and although we may know him by different names, humanity is about wholeness. The BNP want to destroy that."

Waheed Ahmed, Imam at the Katherine Street mosque, Ashton, said: "In my time here, racial aggravation has never reared its ugly head. Certainly not on the scale of nearby towns such as Oldham and Burnley. People should support political parties which are working for the good of all people, be it in relation to race, colour and class or trying to create harmony and peace among all. I’d urge everyone not to vote for the BNP or anyone else who advocates hate and violence."

The Rev Philip Burrows, of Mottram Church, said: "I am not shocked by the amount of candidates standing. I have spoken out about this in the past. I don’t think membership of the BNP is compatible with a loving Christian faith."

Dr Phil Edwards, BNP national press spokesman, said: "The church seems to have forgotten that they’re here to preach the gospel, not to interfere in the democratic process. There is nothing un-Christian about being a member of the BNP. It is a shame the Muslim leaders in this country are expanding their religion while Christian leaders are allowing our religion to wither away."
