Church's anger over BNP claims

2 Comment (s)
A row has broken out between the church and the British National Party in Heanor after a councillor branded the teachings of the Bible "twisted and evil" in his internet blog.

Cllr Lewis Allsebrook, BNP member for Heanor West on Amber Valley Borough Council, was responding in his 'Amber Valley Does Matter' blog to comments made by the Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams, who said that the church must watch verycarefully for any potential BNP gains during the financial crisis.

In reply, Rev Dan Pattimore, of St Lawrence's Church, in Heanor, accused Cllr Allsebrook of lacking even the most basic knowledge of Christian beliefs. Speaking to the Ripley and Heanor News, Cllr Allsebrook said: "The church doesn't welcome us. We still believe in the teachings of the Bible, but we don't believe in their interpretation of it at the moment so we are not welcome. I stand by what I said in my blog and think it's fair comment."

The blog said: "The Archbishop's rants come only weeks after the Church of England decided to specifically exclude the BNP from its flock. Personally I'm not bothered, the CoE teachings of the Bible are normally twisted and evil. For a long time I've thought the way the church has turned it's back on wholesome family values in favour of sick, perverted, PC appeasement is immoral. As far as I'm concerned every BNP member I've met has far higher morals than any Church of England Minister."

He also expressed support for Rev Robert West who has in the past stated that 'God divided nations for their own good and every race needed its space'. Rev West plans to stand in the European elections for the BNP in the East Midlands.

In a letter to the Ripley and Heanor News, Rev Pattimore said: "I for one am very pleased that the true colours of our BNP representatives are at last being shown. Why does he issue this tirade of abuse against the many thousands of ministers in the Church of England and all of those church members who tirelessly give sacrificially to the communities in which they live? I certainly don't remember him attending a service I have conducted.

"Unfortunately for both Mr Allsebrook and his new guru, Rev Robert West, even the most basic knowledge of the message of Jesus Christ shows that Christianity is about inclusivity and service of all, not the segregation of people into different ethnic groups."

National conference on September 27th

2 Comment (s)
We are pleased to announce a follow-on conference on September 27th at the Queens Walk Community Centre, Nottingham starting at 11am.

The purpose of the conference, to which we invite both regional and national organisations, is to have an open discussion about what we do, from now on, to counter the BNP nationally but particularly in the East Midlands region.

An excellent start has been made in this area as a result of our protest on August 16th. Despite the invocation of the Public Order Act, and some very aggravating difficulties, we managed to have a legal and peaceful protest that was continuous from soon after 9am and remained there until 2:30 pm. At its peak it attracted approx 500 people. A march was held in the middle of the day organised by the Unite Against Fascism group.

We do not know yet whether the BNP intend to hold another festival in Derbyshire next year. If they do, we hope for your support to stop it with more vigorous campaigning and a greater number of protesters if it actually goes ahead.

If they don’t, we will still need to do an awful lot of work not only to drive them back from the position they have achieved, with both councillors and members, after 30 years of existence in Amber Valley, but also to stop any further advances of the BNP in the East Midlands area and elsewhere in the country.

As a result of the protest, we now have a sizeable, very active and optimistic Stop the BNP group in Amber Valley.

We hope you will join us on the 27th September to discuss how we might do these things. We will be holding a planning meeting on the week-end of 13th-14th September to which we will be inviting sponsors.

Organisations wishing to sponsor please notify the organisers at the email address nobnpfestival@riseup.net

BNP vows to go ahead with Denby festival

26 Comment (s)
British National Party members set to stage a controversial summer festival stormed out of a licensing meeting after police objected to their plan at the eleventh hour. However the BNP has vowed to go ahead with the event on land off Codnor Denby Lane despite withdrawing its application for a council license to sell alcohol and play live music.

BNP members were confronted by more than 30 protesters opposed to the party, who chanted and waved placards outside Ripley Town Hall before the meeting.

Derbyshire Constabulary had initially raised no objections to the festival, due to take place in August. However it changed its mind and submitted an objection after Amber Valley Borough Council's deadline after receiving "significant intelligence" opponents of the BNP would try and cause trouble at the event.

Party representatives told the council's licensing board on Tuesday the claims were "spurious and politically motivated" before branding the hearing a farce and withdrawing the application.

Craig Sutherland, solicitor for Derbyshire Police, told the meeting: "The fact is we are expecting trouble at this event. We didn't object to this festival in 2007, and we didn't object initially in 2008 however towards the end of May the intelligence picture changed. We have started to receive intelligence to say that groups opposed to the BNP may attack people attending this festival.

"Having a large number of individuals with opposing views together in one area like this is going to be a powder keg."

Mr Sutherland told the panel that if they were willing to let the event go ahead they would like to see several new conditions in place including a seven foot high fence around the entire site and temporary security lighting installed.

John Walker, national treasurer of the BNP, said afterwards: "We came here with an open mind. As it went on we came to the conclusion that it was becoming a farce because of the hoops we were being asked to jump through by Derbyshire Police. The police have caved in to mob rule. We are going to withdraw this application and this event will go ahead without a licence."

BNP member Alan Warner, who hosts the event on his land in Denby, said: "The festival will be going ahead. We won't be selling alcohol but people will be able to bring their own and there will be recorded music and music from the fair ground. The police still have to police the event. I'm looking forward to it, hopefully it will be even better than last year. We're hoping to have as many as 5000 people here."

Peter Carney, Chief Executive at Amber Valley Borough Council said: "The organisers will now not be permitted to provide any licensable activities during the course of the festival, should it go ahead. They will not be able to sell alcohol on site and live or recorded music as a main activity will not be allowed at the event.

"The Council will be considering, with the police, what further steps we will take in respect of the concerns raised by them and by residents at the hearing if the organisers decide to go ahead with the event despite the withdrawal of the application."

Red White Blue Festival licence refused

This evening Ripley council refused the application for the Red White and Blue festival

The BNP got a sharp kick in the teeth once again this evening. The Amber council sitting in Ripley Town hall, refused the application for a licence to hold the RedWhite and Blue festival in Denby Village in August.

Local residents and objectors from round the country turned out to the Council chambers to oppose the fascists. At least 40 police and fit team made a cordon to keep left and right apart.

Durring the application the police stated that due to the obvious confrontation that would ensue between left and right during the gathering they were opposing the event, unless a Glastonbury style 10 feet high wall is errected with floodlights and so many badge security per 100 attendees.

The BNP spat their dummies well and truly out on the floor and stormed out. Alan Warner the Denby Parish councilor former tory and BNP convert who has hosted the event in the past scurried away with his body guard Clarke in tow.

Clarke in his ill fitting suit, whilst sweating profusely claimed loudly to the council that the police were clearly in cahoots with the left.

Members of the BNP whilst hiding behind their children at the front of the town hall looked on in despair at yet another victory for local residents and the Nottingham Stop the BNP and anti fascists across the country.

'Ban BNP festival' say firemen

22 Comment (s)
The British National Party "festival" at Denby in Derbyshire should be banned, according to the Fire Brigades Union. The FBU East Midlands executive member, Dave Green, has appealed to Amber Valley Borough Council to reverse its decision to allow a drink and entertainments license for the event.

The 'Red, White and Blue' event is planned for the weekend of August 4 to August 5, on land owned by BNP member and Denby parish councillor Alan Warner. Other Denby residents have protested, and so has the local MP, Judy Mallaber.

Mr Green said today: "The Fire Brigades Union is very concerned about the proposal to hold such an event in Derbyshire. We, along with many others, have tried hard in recent years to promote good relations between people of different races. That work could be undermined by the holding of a festival celebrating racist ideology. I hope Amber Valley Borough Council will think again and consider the impact on the local community."

Amber Valley Council chief executive of the council, Peter Carney said: "This was a finely balanced decision, made following thorough and careful consideration of all the issues involved. The Licensing Panel considered the representations from all interested parties, including the police, local residents and the applicant, to ensure that the application was dealt with in a fair and objective way, in accordance with all appropriate legislation."

The BNP's press officer, Dr Phil Edwards, said that the festival was held as "a celebration of the culture of white Europeans".

He said: "Because the BNP are so disliked we have to be squeaky clean with events like this or the media will come down on us like a ton of bricks."

BNP waits for ruling on festival

3 Comment (s)
A festival for British National Party members which is aiming to attract thousands of visitors could still be stopped by council planners.

The consultation period concerning the event ends on Sunday, July 15, with a decision due to be made by Amber Valley Borough Council on Wednesday, July 18.

Alan Warner has applied for permission to hold RWB, Red, White and Blue, on fields next to his house in Codnor-Denby Lane, Denby, on August 4 and 5. He has also applied for a liquor licence.

Peter Carney, borough council chief executive, said: "We'll be accepting representations from people living near the site, and other interested parties such as parish councils, until July 15. Up to this point, we've received no representations."

A spokesman for Derbyshire police said that claims that up to 10,000 BNP members could visit the festival were unfounded.

He said: "If the event gets the go-ahead, we'll police it as we would any other large public event."

People living in Denby have started a petition, which will be delivered to the borough council, calling for the event to be cancelled.
