Stop the BNP at May 3rd elections

UAF national days of action:

Saturday 03 March
Saturday 31 March
Saturday 28 April

The BNP will once again be targeting this year’s elections. There are just over three months until the local, Scottish Parliament and Wales Assembly elections. The BNP is planning a major assault on these elections, hoping to build on their current 49 local councillors. The BNP will be using the Scottish Parliament and Wales Assembly elections as a platform to promote their fascist politics of racism, homophobia and hate. It is likely that they will stand enough candidates to qualify for party political broadcasts.

At the last elections the BNP continued their recent progress, greatly increasing their number of councillors - from 19 to 49 - and achieving a swing of around 1-2% in wards they previously contested.

Yorkshire & the Humber and the West Midlands continue to be the BNP’s key target regions. In Yorkshire & the Humber the BNP will aim to make further gains in West Yorkshire - particularly Bradford and Kirklees - and will attempt to make their first breakthrough in South Yorkshire.

In the West Midlands they will be seeking to gain more seats in the Black Country towns of Sandwell and will look to extend this to bordering councils such as Dudley. The BNP will also continue to target Stoke where there are currently 5 BNP councillors.

Breaking through into Birmingham and Leeds is a medium term goal for the BNP as they need higher votes in these areas to gain seats in the European Parliament, and they are likely to stand in all wards in both as they did in 2006.

The BNP will also be targeting parts of Essex including Epping Forest, Basildon and Thurrock.

Labour needs to buck its ideas up a bit in that area.
