BNP in compensation claim for hall booking cancellation

The British National Party has said it wants a village hall committee to reimburse it for money lost when a booking was cancelled at short notice.

As reported in Friday's Echo, Devon members of the far-right party were due to host a fundraising Second World War-themed dinner at the Broadclyst Victory Hall last night, with leader Nick Griffin being the guest of honour.

The event was cancelled on Thursday by the hall's committee after personal details of the booking secretary were circulated by anti-BNP campaigners. Now the party says it wants to be paid back money it spent on food for the event, expected to be attended by 150 people.

Michael Turner, the party's South West elections officer, said: "The lady who organised the food was really upset when she heard it had been called off. She was in tears. Because this lady has paid out the money for the food, which will now be ruined, we will be seeking compensation for the loss, which I think is only fair. I'm waiting for the bills to come in and I shall give them to the hall committee. They just cancelled it without thinking about these things."

The meeting had been organised with the Victory Hall committee on the condition that it remained a private event.

The committee decided to cancel the booking when the personal telephone number of hall booking secretary Roy Elkins was circulated by a group called Hope Not Hate, which also published the number on its website, suggesting anti-fascist campaigners call him to complain about the meeting.

Mr Elkins said: "I do not think we should have to lay down rules about who is allowed to hire the hall and who is not. We are an independent committee and should be able to take bookings as we see fit."

The BNP said it would now hold the fundraising event in Axminster tonight and would attempt to lay on transport to it.

Douglas Hull, a Liberal Democrat councillor for Axminster, said: "If people are silly enough to support the BNP, then let them. There are a few local members and they do nothing for Axminster."

Odd how the BNP claims it's had dozens of these meetings, some of which have been cancelled at short notice, yet this one is suddenly the subject of a compensation claim. It couldn't have anything to do with the fact that the hall is run by a BNP supporter and will probably manage to swing the party some cash out of the hall funds, could it?

Who is this cretin "Cynic"?

The hall is most definitely not run by a BNP supporter. If it was the meeting would have gone ahead. As it was a very lively and successful meeting was held at another venue.

That's a possibility though I reckon it's more likely to be an attempt to pass the buck for any possible adverse publicity on to anyone BUT the BNP. A typical Griffin trick.

So the BNP is trying to claim compensation by telling lies then? Tut-tut. Isn't that fraud?

You should really check with your fascist party before you open your big gob.

Good spot Antifascist, what a bunch of pillocks. Or are they telling us that the sarnies couldn't be transported at short notice from one local venue to another?

Maybe Griffin ate them on the way?

Who cares? She was supplying food for the BNP. Let them reimburse her and if they don't, I don't really give a shit. Anyone who works with or for the BNP is scum along with them.

The booking was cancelled due to protests from local people. Now the BNP wants to screw the community by making a financial claim against the management of a small village hall. Shows how much the BNP care for our communities, doesn't it?

Elkins continues to whinge because he wasn't able to lease the hall out to the fascist BNP. As he is clearly a supporter of the BNP I would suggest he's probably not a fit person for the hall committee to have taking their bookings. Local people need to know about this man and what he stands for.

That these grubby little chancres and troublemakers have the audacity to defame the memory of Churchill is low enough but this?

Picking on a village hall committee who were foolish or naive enough to take this book?

Churchill urged my relatives to fight (and in some cases die) to save this country and the world from people like the BNP.

I do not normally advocate violence but if I saw the BNP's Lie Lorry abusing the memory of Churchill and I had a flame-thrower to hand...

I must be slipping - To have any chance of success the Nonces Party would have to demonstrate that a loss had been incurred.

Any competant defendant would want to see evidence of value and payment. That would be interesting as it would mean exposure of the name address etc of the supplier, and whether she was compliant with public Health legislstion, and Bank details.

It would also be interesting to learn why no attempt was made to mittigate the loss by tranmsporting the food to Axminster, asuming that there was any meeting at Axminster !

I dare say HMC&E & PWD might be interested.

Yet again the Nutzies will rush into print before engageing brain !

PS I am sure the Green Arsehole etc will be publishing pictures of the "alledged" re[lacement video.

Why not lift and post them here and see if anybody can identify the venue so that suitable action cam be taken in the future ?
