Local parents reject BNP governor

Parents of children at Hereward Primary School have condemned the nomination of local BNP leader Pat Richardson as a school governor.

Richardson put herself forward for the role after no candidates came forward from the local community.

Speaking to the Epping Forest Guardian, Hannah Martin, who lives on the Oakwood estate and whose three year old goes to Hereward, said she was disgusted at the prospect of Richardson becoming governor. She said: "My son is mixed race and I know there are lots of black children at the school. Teachers and staff here have always been brilliant in making everyone feel welcome, and I think there is a danger that this would ruin all that."

Sam Kelly, a mother of two whose 10 year old son is at the school, said: "My son has been here for seven years and I have never known any problems over race. I think the school needs to think what kind of message this would send out."

Local father Lee Thurland said: "I don't know much about the BNP but what I have heard I don't like."

The school, which has been praised by OfSTED for its multi-cultural environment, will have to decide whether to accept the nomination of the councillor from the far-right party, which advocates the "repatriation" of non-white people.

Richardson said: "I would hope to bring some common sense to the decision-making process down there."

"Common sense" is what the BNP commonly refers to its policy of alienating and expelling non-white and mixed race people. Advancing such racist policies in a primary school is very ominous indeed.

If you think you would make a better school governor than the local leader of an extremist political party, you can submit your nomination via the town council:

That should make her welcome at her first meeting.

Is she saying that the existing governors have been making nonsensical decisions?

And the use of the derogatory "down there" is very telling.

What a charmer!!!

Yes.

FTR Mrs. Richardson is a devout Jew - yes of course it goes without saying I despise the racism of the BNP but cant help find it a puzzle that she is known locally as both a BNP councillor and Jewish yet there are well intentioned anti-facists on here who want to remove her from her elected office; a position which was backed by many fellow Jewish folk here. This smacks of confusion and possible Stalinist elements of anti-semitism to me.

Thanks for linking to this article. Councillor Richardson represents Broadway ward on the town and district councils, but lives on the opposite end of town, in a Victorian terraced cottage in a more affluent area near the forest. That is probably why she refers to Hereward as situated "down there" in the "slums". I live in this area, Hereward School is virtually next door to me and my son will go there. But already parents - particularly those with mixed race children - are worried and are thinking about moving their kids. To be honest, Richardson is the least bad of the bunch (she's not a thug and I don't think she's got time for racist violence), but her appointment as school governor would further legitimise and institutionalise the BNP locally. That's what bothers me as a parent and a proud Debden resident. But if people actually took an interest in their community and if they became school governors, even if they have no interest in party politics, the BNP would not be around. Instead of complaining about the BNP or complaining about foreigners, people should start doing things for themselves. I'm sick of whingers.

Neither confusion nor anti-semitism. She might well be Jewish but she subscribes to the BNP's racism and thus has made herself a legitimate and proper political target for anti-fascists. Frankly, what the hell is an allegedly 'devout' Jew doing allying herself with a known anti-semite and Holocaust-denier anyway?

No problem. It's a good article and the site looks like a winner. Keep up the good work. :-)

Jew or not, she's a racist idiot.

She is not a "devout" Jew at all - she has a Jewish background. The irony is not just in that she is a Jew in a party that was set up on the basis of antisemitic ideology, it is the fact that her family were Romanian refugees. If they had not been given asylum in the UK, she would not be alive. But the BNP would deny anyone political asylum.

There are many in the BNP who hate her and have said as much - Tyndall opposed her membership, but now his former right-hand-man Richard Edmonds - a hardened neo-Nazi if there ever was one - is photographed with her at fund-raising events. Pat Richardson should read about the life of Chaim Rumkowski and the ghetto police in Poland's Judenrat. She reminds me of those deluded collaborators.

Not really there was Jewish members of the old National Front -Albert Elder and Gerry Viner for example. Elder used to write for Tyndalls Spearhead magazine.

They and a handful of others were token Jews, used by what was still an anti-semitic leadership as a means of disguising its nazi credentials. Pat Richardson serves precisely the same purpose for the nazi BNP.

And if the BNP get into power I am sure she will wear a Kapo's arm band as well as a yellow star.
