The plot thickens: BNP's Darby openly breaches data protection laws

The Smith/Graham expulsion story continues apace with drama after drama unfolding and revelations popping up all over the place.

The situation is suddenly becoming more dangerous for the BNP, which currently seems hell-bent on political suicide, as Simon Darby, the party's Press Officer - presumably with the connivance of Nick Griffin - releases private emails from the laptop stolen from Sadie Graham's home.

As this particular email is in the public domain, we don't believe we'll have a problem with the Data Protection Act but according to a friend who tends to know these things, the BNP are opening themselves up to all kinds of charges - including theft - by openly admitting that officers are trawling through private emails. How long, we wonder, before they're peeking at her credit card details or passwords to sites? It's time, we believe, that the police were brought in.

The situation is made a lot more complex by the fact that the laptop is actually owned by the BNP but we're assured that, while the hardware and software (assuming it's legal) belongs to the party, the data does not unless it directly and exclusively relates to the party's business. Yet another complication is caused by the manner in which the computer was taken. Was this theft or what?

However the email was obtained and whether or not that action was legal is probably beside the point at the moment. Graham and the others who have been expelled from the party have the right to appeal against that decision - a right that, as far as I recall, John Tyndall, the party's founder, exercised successfully and at great expense to the BNP. The right still exists in law and once they have announced (which they have) that they intend to exercise that right, the whole matter becomes sub judice and any release of new information - such as the contents of private emails - would be likely to lead to a successful judicial review as the case has clearly been contaminated.

Presumably Darby, advised as he is by the BNP's bonkers legal-beagle Lee Barnes, knows all this and simply doesn't care because what is of prime importance to the party right now is to regain some credibility in the eyes of the membership before any more of them walk out in disgust. One of these attempts to mollify the membership seems to be to ask the bomber and Griffin's right-hand man (yes, still) Tony Lecomber to post a conciliatory note on the Green Arrow blog. As Lecomber was almost as universally-despised as Mark Collett, the cause of all this fuss, it seems bizarre that he should have been used in this way.

Even odder, is that Nick Griffin hasn't appealed for calm - or indeed, for anything else. Perhaps he realises that if he was to stick his oar in, he would only make a bad situation even worse.

Without prejudice then, here is the content of Graham's email and the response she has posted on the Enough is Enough site.

Graham's email (Dec 4th) to Steve Blake as printed on Simon Darby's blog.

I think you are doing ok and the right thing. Don’t worry this stays private. We are forced to do stuff at moment. Ive been handing out wrong amended bank statements for my region to make sure that hannam gets the flak. On another note please let me have the letter asap.

Sadie Graham's response.

An email that I sent from my personal email account to Steve Blake on the 4th December can be explained perfectly legitimately and can be substantiated by any of the East Midlands officials who attended the East Midlands Regional Council Meeting on the Thursday 29th November.

I requested from Dave Hannam, as I always do before a regional meeting, a full update of statements for every unit in the region. He sent them through to me about two hours before the meeting so I printed them out and took them along to the regional meeting. There they were handed out to each of the officials. As usual at the regional meeting there was an outburst of complaints from officials who upon reading their statements realise the glaring errors within them. These errors are often ones that were highlighted previously and they have already brought to the attention of Dave Hannam via email. An example was a £200 donation banked by Broxtowe on the 20th April that was to be transferred into the Ashfield account immediatley. Yet again on the November statement it had not been done despite numerous emails from myself to Dave about this. Along with this was complaints from East Lindsey who had not had the £160 banked on the 5th September credited to their account. There were many other complaints which I later relayed to Dave Hannam in an email sometime after the meeting. Some days later I received an email back from Dave along with a few supposedly amended statements. I took a look at them and could see straight away that the errors had not been done. Rather than yet again telling Dave that the errors were still there I just sent them out to the fundholders in the hope that they themselves would take it upon themselves to complain directly to Dave. At this time I already felt that Dave was making it extremely difficult for me to work with him and was refusing to answer many of my emails. I thought that the local officials would have better luck if they contacted him directly.

This is the truth behind this email and anyone was had ever been a fundholder or local organiser will know first hand the difficulty in getting accurate accounts. All East Midlands officials will be able to back this up as they have been receiving bank statements at every regional council meeting and it is clear to see that none of them have been tampered with by me or anyone else. This is just another pathetic cover-up for blatant incompetence. I told Steve Blake this in an email because I was sick of always covering up treasury errors and I was now just letting people see them for themselves.

You have lied and lied very badly on your blog.

Darby wrote:
The following email has this afternoon been found on the BNP computer owned by the former BNP member Sadie Graham.

No actually it was Sadie's personal computer not the Party's, removed under questionable circumstances.

Sadie is still a card carrying member not "former".

Darby wrote:
I do not really need to comment on it other than to say even I was beginning to wonder why Dave Hannam, our Regional Treasurer, was making mistakes. Well now we know the answer don't we and this it would appear is just the tip of the iceberg.

The email is a fraud, I never received it and I am prepared to seek expert witness advice that this was never written by Sadie at the time and date you claim it was written. The email header is flawed, it is a copy and paste job by someone who thinks he knows a bit about computers but has failed to observe the "bleeding obvious"!

Ok, here goes, when X sends an email to Y, X has to compose the message and then send his message through his own ISP.

This is what a real OUTGOING email message header looks like (I've included a few extra "X's" to keep my own valued client confidential).

If Sadie was posting her message to me the only info would be as my above posting, it would not show the identity of the RECEIVING server. You've been duped Simon by some very persuasive characters but people who have no loyalty to Nick or to the greater cause.

Why defend the indefensible? Every fundholder in the Party I have spoken to in the past 30hrs or so seems to have at least one complaint about Hannam and that's why they are quitting en masse. You do realise that there will not be a functioning Party in a few days as office holders are either publicly quitting or declaring regional "UDI".

Darby wrote:
As well as my involvement in politics, I have worked in both the public and private sector. However, in all my experiences I have never known anything like this.

I agree, the actions of people I once considered friends and colleagues are truly astounding. You saw fit to publish my personal email address on your blog. You saw fit to publish Sadie's personal email address on your blog. Why have you done this? Why have you posted a fraudulent email.

The header has been tampered with, i.e. the subject of "Re: gem....." had been falsified.

If you have an ounce of decency Simon you will pull that posting. Bloody hell Simon, I am trying very very hard to find some way for everyone involved to emerge with some credibility and integrity, I've fielded at least 20 calls today from our colleagues and comrades looking for answers. Not one person wants to see the BNP suffer and everyone remains 100% behind our democratically elected Leader.

Your blog posting, if not totally illegal (as was the posting on the new BNP web site of a bugged conversation between two office holders) is very suspect.

I thought you had more honour than this Simon, I really did.

Another sad day for the Cause but we all do reap what we sow.

Off topic I know but there were a few people posting or trying to post on Stormfront with some very offensive names, not the usual nutzi/odin names but one that caught my eye was about raping a lass. Not funny

I hope it's the far right playing what they see as black art games and trying to blame the left for it .

Now whether this is some sort of double bluff or not I don't know but most things Sharon Ebanks posts on here or other blogs tend to have a signature that says

Kind regards

Sharon

or words to that effect. I was also under the impression the the NNP forum had gone a few weeks ago so I think the first post could be a fake.

Not that it matters, it all adds to the fun.

The only story I could find on Google news is from the BBC: -

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/nottinghamshire/7138919.stm

Most mainstream news outlets don't seem to give a shit about what goings on at the bnp. The party's un-newsworthiness clearly shows how Nick Griffin are pissing in the wind.

It can't just be a case of no-platform, as, if the "so-called liberal media" were thrilled about the bnp collapsing, there'd have been major headlines in newspapers, rubbing it in to the max. Brown, Clegg and Cameron only so much as fart to send headlines soaring around the world.

There it is, folks. It's final. Nick Griffin's political party are smallfrys, and their local election campaigns failed to make any impact on the party's profile.

Blame Griffin! Blame "media boffin" Collett!

Blame yourselves for wasting your life away handing out racist leaflets and attending pointless political rallies.

All the bnp is about, is making money from its members, just like a pyramid selling scheme.

Next time, stick to selling tupperware and kitchen mops. It's a far more rewarding hobby.

The email on Darby's blog has been tampered with to make it appear that Graham had done something underhand, he has also tampered with the name of the email by calling it "Gem" and also tampered with the date the email was sent.

Dear all,

Following a period of consultation with branch members, and a subsequent meeting of branch activists earlier this evening (11.12.07), Doncaster BNP hereby announce their unanimous support for party officials Sadie Graham and Kenny Smith. We also praise other party members who have taken the decision to back Sadie and Kenny, and condemn, unreservedly, the decision to dismiss them from their positions.

All Doncaster members will be notified of our decision, our reasons for reaching this decision and the circumstances surrounding it.

We would like to take this opportunity to reiterate our belief that the British National Party is run by, and for, its members, and that consultation and acknowledgement of that membership - rather than a favoured and select minority - is paramount to a healthy and democratic party.

Yours in the cause,

Lee Haggan

Bullshit, the members who have called me afraid to resign are just going to let their memberships lapse. All memberships have to be renewed by December 31st.

"I thought the 'protest' was petering out but it seems Nick Griffins 'statement' on the BNP site has only succeedded in puring boiling oil on calming waters."

Griffin is clearly insane if he thinks people will return with him in charge. He should have kept the whole thing under wraps but he didn't, why did he make it so public? Clearly it was time to destroy the BNP rather than declare it to be bankrupt.

Anonymous said...

So where do we stand now? So far as I can see, Scotland and Ulster are, for all intents, now without any sort of BNP organisation whatsoever, East Midlands and Yorkshire are both split to a point where the BNP exists only in patches there, and North West, West Midlands and South East have all had major problems, although ones that will not permenantly harm them.

They have also lost about one third of the Advisory Council and will have to reform, from the bottom up, the YBNP, their on-line operations, security department and merchadising arm.

And things are only just beginning!

These losses are crippling by any standards, and also include several of the biggest donors, and are only the friends of Sadie so far. Pretty soon we'll be seeing other splits coming out, especially in London and the SE, as the Tyndal Grouping down here is certainly talking and flexing its muscle - Valerie Tyndal, Richard Edmonds, Derek Beacon, Ian Dell, Croydon branch, Mike Easter and several others. A lot of individuals in Lewisham and the old East End seem to bo going over to this group as well. Add on the splits simmerring in Barking and Thurrock over Diva Dicky, and London is another area that Griffin is likely to lose soon, as is Kent.

Will there even be a BNP by Easter?

Just been over to the Green Arrow blog. The fascists are arguing like crazy among themselves. It's going to take months if not years for them to get themselves sorted!

It's an amusing spectator sport for the moment, but I suppose we can't let our guard down too far, because eventually BNP MarkII, or the REAL BNP or the ORIGINAL BNP or BNP R US or some such successors will appear from out of the wreckage. The more successor organisations the better! With a five way split among 7% of the electorate they'll be down with the monster raving looneys where they belong.

I just spoke to a BNP member which in my mind is a euphemism for a "Griffin Cash fund donor"

He has come up with what he believes will be the classic solution to this wonderful disaster in the BNP.

His audacious suggestion is that Hannam might get off the faceparty dating website for the next few weeks and complete the audited accounts before the fine is increased to £2000.00 in Jan 2008 thus regaining credibility!!.

A rock and a hard place spring to mind here.

Disasterous accounts will only add fuel to the fire that is currently melting the structure of the BNP yet incompetence in not delivering the accounts on time, YET AGAIN, will give credibility to all the members who have resigned and help to increase the number of demoralised followers.

A joyous Yuletide for all anti fascists methinks!!

The cult of the pig farmer will stay intact for a few more months I suspect.

The inability of rational thought that seems to possess so many BNP members will be sustained as they refuse to face the irrefutable truth that Griffin is not in their tiny minds "the second coming" and their country will not be "saved" by a money grabbing Welsh farmer.
