BNP Leadership Election Result

It's gone to a recount.

A re-count of votes is currently underway in the Party leadership election. More news as it happens!

From what I can gather there is less than 10 votes in it.

Nick Griffin, received 1157 votes, whilst Andrew Brons, the loser, received 1148 votes

Now that is what I call a split.

My maths is pretty crap but I get the result percentages as:-

(1157 / 2316) * 100 = 49.9568221% for Griffin

(1148 / 2316) * 100 = 49.5682211% for Brons

(11 / 2316) * 100 = 0.474956822 spoilt votes.

Apologies for crap maths, I only got a CSE.

Democracy in action, Griffin style.

Whilst having a quick glance at twitter I noticed that Griffin has announced his plans for the future BNP leadership campaigns. The tweets were published over a period of 20 mins and were jumbled up but I think I've sorted it so it makes some sort of sense.

Great spirit in meeting. Over 40 there despite all hassle. Announced we're having an EGM asap to vote on adopting two key constitutional changes: the creation of a meritocratic democratic element to choosing the Advisory Council, and changing the leadership election system that we adopted in great haste when under attack by Cehr to one that mirrors standard British elections - no signatures hurdle, a £5OO deposit returnable at 5%, a fixed 4 or 5 year term with safeguards in hands of A.C.

First election this summer with a hustings meeting for all members and candidates in each region.

Short, sharp campaign then back to work & progress.

Meeting hugely enthusiastic esp with last announcement: Among those standing for mandate for a full term, will be me.

So after a quick read through and ponder a number of questions come to mind.

Didn't Griffin spend most of last year saying he was going to step down in a couple of years?

Do any other political parties charge candidates for the privilege of standing for office?

Do any other political parties have fixed term leadership elections over the 4 or 5 year General Election cycle?

What on earth is a meritocratic democratic element?

Holocaust denier launches bid for leadership

With a large number of its activists either in hiding or on some kind of police bail, one of the party's founding members has decided that he has had enough of Nick Griffin's leadership and has indicated that he will stand for party leader later in the year.This is another distraction that the BNP's leadership could well do without.

Nearly seventy years of age, Richard Edmonds used to be a powerful and controversial orator when he was the warm up act for the party's hard-line Nazi founder John Tyndall, when he formed the party in 1982. A rabid Antisemite, Edmonds used to own and run the BNP's headquarters in Welling, south London at a time when it was common for the BNP to march around the country handing out copies of the newspaper Holocaust News, a newspaper that denied that the Holocaust had ever happened.

Not that Nick Griffin should mind Edmonds’s views on the Holocaust too much, he's had plenty to say on the subject himself too when it has suited him. The once hugely popular Edmonds is sure to be firing plenty of his notorious vitriol at Nick Griffin at a meting tonight in Mottingham, south London, where party rebels' are meeting to hear Edmonds launch his campaign when they really and probably should all be out elsehwere around the country handing out leaflets.

The meeting, which is for members only, is being held by the party's Reform Group who have decided they do not even want to wait until after next week's election before declaring open warfare. With Adam Walker, the party's cheap purging officer apparently still missing in action, someone else from the party's Head Office will have to be at Mottingham train station at 7.00 tonight to hand out the suspension and expulsion notices that normally follow once people have attended anti-Griffin meetings.
