A British National Party councillor in West Yorkshire is to challenge Nick Griffin for the leadership of the far-right party.
Coun Colin Auty claims the party needs to be more mainstream and has an image problem, because the leader has "bodyguards in dark suits and sun shades". Coun Auty, who has represented Dewsbury East on Kirklees Council since 2006, said university-educated Mr Griffin's image was not "grassroots".
The married father-of-two, a painter and decorator, said he decided to challenge Mr Griffin, who has led the BNP since 1999, because he wanted the party to be more democratic and moderate. The leadership contest will take place next month – but Coun Auty is unlikely to unseat Mr Griffin, according to party insiders.
One said: "He's not (got) a cat in hell's chance. He is politically naive. Nick is well-liked in the party and well respected. The last person to challenge him got about seven per cent to Nick's 93 per cent."
A spokesman said that Mr Griffin's minders were to ensure his safety. "When you have had threats to your life, you need to have people around you," he said.

Colin Aulty will stand little chance of winning the leadership challenge because of one main reason. Nick Griffins idea of democracy only cuts one way, his way and in his interest. Aulty will be denied all contact with the party members at meetings, all web site access will be blocked and anyone aiding and abeting him will be either thrown out of the party or sidelined. Democracy may be preached in the BNP but it counts for nothing if Griffins cash cow is threatened, alas the wonders of politics.

Leadership election WILL NOT take place next month, only the signed papers have to be handed in by 30th of next month.
Last years turnout for voting was very poor - main reason being that people did not want to vote for either Griffin or Jackson.

There's something odd about a leadership challenge at this time. It's clear Aulty has little chance of winning after the recent election, and it seems like a fake show of democracy to me. It will only strengthen Griffin's position. Don't fall for it.

On Stormfront, the poster called Walk Towards the Light in a thread titled "Come on Colin" is aking Cllr Auty to pst his policies on Stormfront....... Oh yeah, obvious trap and one way to get Auty disciplined and chucked out before the leadership election because as we all know Stormfront is banned to BNP members, at least the majority of them save for a select few who post with seeming impunity.
They seem to have these leadership contests more than Labour or the Tories! I don't think Aulty will win because they didn't suffer any disasters at the polls. There was in fact some small improvement. The GLA win bolstered Griffin. May have been different without it.

He who thinks education equals intelligence is indeed a fool, a degree in education is a degree of knowledge in a given subject, it does not give them the right to pontificate on all matters. I received my education in the great university of life from people with much experience, weathered faces and calloused hands. These people, from all walks of life, gained knowledge from living it. These people were, to use a modern term, old farts and wrinklies. Now I am one and, though somewhat saddened, have to sit back in amusement and watch the World, with all its intelligent people, being ruined for future generations.

Walk Towards the Light is Lee Barnes, the self-appointed head of the BNP 'Legal Department' (just consists of Lee Barnes).
Does anyone know what happened with the case that Clive Potter (ex-Solidarity, ex-BNP) took against the Prison Service for racial discrimination? Lee Barnes was curiously still representing him even though Potter has earned the hatred of both the BNP and Squalidarity leadership. What was Barnes up to and how did he get on?

I think he and Barnes lost the case recently (shock,gasp!) but I haven't heard anything more.
Potter fell out with Griffin by trying to suspend Harrington from the Union. Harrington and Griffin rounded on him. Griffin and Harrington go back a long way.
Current gossip says that Potter had costs of over £80,000 awarded against him. Maybe Lee B was playing doublecross for Nick G? On the other hand he could just be crap! Can't see Solidarity or the BNP running appeals!

Actually, I've been on their forum and that is true. Mooted, but not yet decided upon.
Tokens are certainly sensible as an electoral formula. They rid UKIP of any racist connotations in under a second in their 2004 video. All it took was a friendly looking Sikh man who was standing and *BAMPH*.
Could the same work for the BNP? Quite possibly.
