Sticky Post: BNP Candidates 2011

Could you send through any confirmed BNP candidates for this years local elections. I'm going to compile a list and compare it to previous years. Even at this early stage it's not looking good for them. Two candidates in Leeds and none in Sunderland and several ex BNP standing for the English Democrats.

Just 1 in North West Leicestershire lots of BNPers as Independents. Also rumours of less than 6 in Charnwood. Both areas should of been looking for full slates.

For the Welsh Assembly for Mid and West Wales:

BNP
1. Kay Thomas
2. Watcyn Richards
3. Roger Phillips
4. Gary Tumulty - who gives his address as Manchester and stood before in Ogmore at the GE

The Christian Party (Wales) are also standing - many of their policies seem to me well - BNP like/lite - they all seem to be a bunch of fruitcakes from Llandrindod Wells - I should add it is a bit rural there......

Wasn't Sunderland consistently a place where they ran a full slate in every ward?

It was and I think they stood over 30 candidates in Leeds last year and this year it's down to 2.
Kirklees is down to 4 from 20 last year.

Add North West Leicestershire to your main list down from 6 to 1 from previous elections.

There's a list of BNP candidates in 2007 broken down by council on the Hope not Hate site:

They stood 743 in the council elections that year!

Bnp hav confirmed they r standing 10 candidates in this years all-out council elections in the key area of stoke (that's more than they stood last year). The bnp now hav a chance 2 reposition themselvs aftr last years defeats - any bnp candidates keeping or winning stoke seats wil b there til 2015. Alternatively we have a chance to drive them out 4 good. England first party r also standing 6 candidates in seperate wards in stoke.

I know he went independent some time late last year so it's not really a surprise but it's another to add to the list of BNP to ED crossovers.

Birmingham down from 40 to 30 and now down to 15,just confirmed.

As well as the BNP there are also 5 England First Party and an English Democrat standing in Stoke-on-Trent, and in different wards to the BNP so it looks like a deal may have been done between the two.

There are 10 BNP candidates in Stoke-on-Trent:

Melanie Jane Baddeley - Abbey Hulton & Townsend Ward
Michael Anthony White - Baddeley, Milton & Norton Ward
Steven Reginald Batkin - Bentilee & Ubberley Ward
Stephen William Issard - Boothen & Oak Hill Ward
Paula Patricia Roberts - Fenton East Ward
Andrew Mark Jones - Ford Green & Smallthorne Ward
David Leese - Great Chell & Packmoor Ward
Philip Sandland - Hanford & Trentham Ward
Michael Coleman - Meir North Ward
John Williams Burgess - Meir South Ward

The EFP candidates are:

Lynne Mary Jane Pond - Bradeley & Chell Heath Ward
Nicholas Francis Mcveigh - Broadway & Longton East Ward
Spencer Mervyn Cartlidge - Dresden & Florence Ward
Craig Arthur Pond - Goldenhill & Sandyford Ward
John Richard Barnett - Meir Hay Ward

Spencer Cartlidge and Mark Leat stood last year for England First (both are ex BNP) and Cartlidge was quoted in the local paper as saying "Obviously I stood for the BNP in the past, but in the end it was a little too extreme for me."

Is there something we should tell him?

No BNP in Plymouth (I think three last time around)
No BNP in North Devon ( BNP had one in Ilfracombe back in 2009 for County elections -BNP loyalist.
Have not ben able identify any other far right/fascist parties

Will check to see if any are appearing as 'Independents', A faovoured tactic in this part of the world, or have joined UKIP. The UKIP slate is weaker than usual as the west country is considered their heartland, but may reflect change of tactics and concentrate resources on a few wards.

"Just 7 Fascists in Thurrock,Essex down from a full slate in the past!"

If this is true then it equals 2006 figures. After 2006 Emma Colgate took over and they had full slates in 2007, 2008 and 2010.

This is a disaster for the Eastern Region. Southend, Basildon and Broxbourne will probably be worse.

None standing for Colchester BC - they've had one candidate for the borough in 2008 and 2010, and had nine in the county elections in 2009.

I just saw Darby on BNPTV and his tie was knotted in the manner of a 1980s prefect. So maybe we should look out for some under-age loony Nazi candidates? I certainly wouldn't put it past 'em in their desperation.

Just to inject a note of frivolity into proceedings here... a bit like dimbleby eating a mars bar live on election night... I see the nutzie webshite is bigging up the election of 2 councillors... before you all get worried.. they were unopposed, ie no else could be arsed standing, and they were Hapton (wikepedia entry:"amenities include a primary school and a piece of land next to the church which was purchased in 2004 on behalf of the village for common use and now has a picnic bench and BBQ with disabled access.") and Habergham Eaves(wikipedia entry:"In the 2001 census the parish had a population of 1,581")
Note they are both PARISH council posts... and the elected (or not) representatives do not use the term 'councillor'.
If you want some real mirth, read the comments section, classics include:
"Ever closer to that glorious day"

"The opposition were swept aside with such a force that they never appeared on the ballots"

"Proof that we are no longer just trying to hold back the tide; we're pushing it back! " - Oh, King Canute would have been proud.

"From small acorns ......." - Little nut(ters) appear.

Of the 19 candidates in Barnsley only about 5 haven't stood before and one of these is a relative of a repeat candidate who lives at the same address. The English Democrats are standing in one of the 2 wards the BNP aren't contesting. One BNP candidate is also standing for his local parish council in Penistone.

From last year they seem to have lost about 9 candidates, gained 5 new and brought back 2 who have stood before but didn't stand last year. As a lot of them live in clusters (Barugh Green or near the town centre) many are standing in wards miles from where they live.

Barnsley may be the last place the BNP dies as people there tend to be most divorced from the passage of time.

Indeed, BNP candidacy here in Birmingham is down, compared with the Greens (my party) who will be standing in almost every ward. However, it is here in the south of the city where the highest tally of nazi candidates are - Stuart Bates and the Ortons of course, but a lot of BNP regulars are missing! Also, I notice a new BNP family on the scene here in Northfield - the Hickmans, from the Allens Cross council estate, along with another 'newbie', Amanda Bowyer, who also gives a B31 address, In fact quite a few new names are giving Northfield or Longbridge addresses.

But no Elizabeth Wainwright. Or Mike Bell. Or Zane Patchell, Robert Grierson, anybody called Lumby etc.etc. LU were right, the BNP HAVE collapsed here, and now we CAN have a genuine anti LabLibCon vote with the Greens!
