Asian men and BNP candidate Bob Bailey clash in Barking

A fight broke out between a British National Party parliamentary candidate and some Asian men as party members were out campaigning in east London.

Some men earlier swore at leader Nick Griffin and threw fruit at him and he was taken away from the scene.

The candidate for Romford, Bob Bailey, was filmed shouting out to men in Ripple Road when one of them swore and spat at him and Mr Bailey punched him. Police were called after 1500 BST to the fight between the two groups.

At the time Metropolitan Police said they were called to the incident but no-one had been arrested at the scene. Later however, police said an 18-year-old man attended Barking police station and alleged common assault against another man. The Barking Community Safety Unit is to look into the matter.

When asked about the fight Mr Griffin told BBC London the fight was the result of a "campaign of hatred and dehumanisation against any group of people, in this case us".

He said: "I think people have to realise that the people have spoken, this is a democratic vote and everyone has to go along with that, whether its us, our opponents or people on the streets, and if there are a few crazies or thugs on the streets I'm sure the police will deal with them quite quickly. The more people in the media talk this up as an issue, the more silly kids on the streets will be inclined to take the law into their hands."

Candidates for Romford are: Independent: Philip Hyde; Conservative: Andrew Rosindell; Independent: David Sturman; English Democrats: Peter Thorogood; Labour: Rachel Voller; British National Party: Robert Bailey; UK Independence Party: Gerard Batten; Liberal Democrat: Helen Duffett; Green: Gary Haines.

What was that idiot shouting about robbers at the start of the film?

This article just highlights the appalling journalistic standards at the BBC. If any other electoral candidate from another party assaulted a member of the public (even if provoked, remember Prescott) they would carry a statement from an opposition party denouncing them. When it comes to the Nazi's they are allowed to spout their bile unchallenged. There should be a statement from an anti-fascist group at the very least.

Bob Bailey of course is not just a member of the BNP , but he is also a fully paid up member of 'british psychopaths, headbangers and nutters club'. Many in the BNP have dual membership.

I feel sorry for the people in his ward he is supposed to represent.
I would be tempted to move - a variation on the much flaunted 'white flight' that the BNP love to talk up. They don't consider many normal level headed people who abhor everything they stand for, would up sticks and leave. Many of my friends in SE Essex feel anger at the presence of the BNP denigrating and dragging down the area.
This clip does not surprise me in the slightest. No different to the NF in the 1970's despite the ill fitting suits and superficial makeover.

Don't forget this is a the numpty who got angry at what his local paper printed so went and shouted at them through a megaphone outside their offices until the police were called.

You really couldn't make that comment up considering what they think about Muslims.

It's high time a dossier of these sort of incidents was compiled and handed in to the regulator (and to the anti-BBC press, with the Daily Mail at the top of that list) Remember the two Tories in the 1980s who challenged 'Auntie' in the 80s over alleged left-wing bias??

The BBC is not funded by the licence payer to give undue preference to any particular political party or school of thought, least alone the fascist and constantly lying to cover up its last lie BNP. It is supposed to be impartial, and maybe pressure from antifascists will make the BBC realise that fact.

The BBC have given far too much positive publicity to an organisation that by its daily deeds does not deserve to be portrayed in such a manner, and where dishonesty is the norm (along with the usual racism...)

The BBC (and much of the media) doesn't have a clue when it comes to the nazis.

A Cardiff University study showed the BBC as one of the most pro-Iraq war media outlets in the world giving less coverage of anti war sentiment than most US media! even when over 70% of the population was anti war.

Remember that when the BBC says it has a public duty to give the nazi bnp airtime.

Yes indeed! Why the merry fuck didn't the police take action against racist thug Bob Bailey?

Anon @ 10.52, my point entirely. You'd expect this from Rupert Murdoch's Sky News of the World International etc. of course. You don't from the 'impartial' BBC, and it is that that hurts.

I personally have not forgotten Radio 1's unchallenged BNP 'advert' last year.

BNP thug Bob Bailey insulted the Asian lads, calling them "robbers" (!?) before they came over, then, BEFORE they spat at him, Bob Bailey called one a "***** bugger" (bleeped) as seen in this footage...

As well as convicted drunk-driver Bob Bailey, also involved in this fight were BNP candidate Matthew Tait and NF activist Kieren Trent, as shown in this video...

I think it is shocking that no police action was taken against Bob Bailey or any of his other racist BNP followers....
