LIVE election and results blog

What a great night of live election blogging we had last night. Loads of people on, up to the minute results and analysis, lots of laughs and the odd bit of verbal abuse. Great fun! Thanks to all who spent the night with us and made the General Election tolerable. :-)

Excellent. I'm looking forward to it. :)
The BNP are already preparing their excuses for tomorrow's expected poor results. They are:
"ZanuLabLibCon" and the Electoral Commission have secretly conspired to destroy BNP votes before they are counted and give every ethnic minority man, woman and even child multiple votes where the BNP are strong.
OK, got that?
"I bet loads of fascists will be joining in."
The more people, the better. It should be good.
I will be in attendence :)
Everyone tune into channel 4's "alternative election night" for a few giggles as well!
Unfortunately I've got to go to a count, so won't be on-line. Mind, it'll give me an opportunity to shun the BNP's candidate and agent (if they turn up).
Love to everyone who contributes to and uses LU and, fingers crossed, but personally I've got a 6-pack on ice :)
Anyone seen this?

I predict Griffin to finish a poor third, and a net loss of council seats in Barking (and nation-wide), and the Stoke Central seat to see the BNP trailing in outside the top three - and quite possibly on an approximate par with the National Front. And a net loss of council seats there, as well.
Remember, you read it here first!

According to the latest poll, the bnp is trailing at 2%. It will be interesting to see how that pans out later today.
Good luck to all, will be back at 10pm, please let irish tony know I will bring the choccy biscuits

Top of da mornin to ya Tulip!!!!
Now, thats the Paddywhackery gone , I look forward to the choccie biscuits, I've got some beer in the fridge, Jameson in the cupboard and hopefully the kids will get some Z's tonight so I can log on and have some fun.
I am predicting a BNP disaster and pray to God I am right.
See you all tonight
BNP website twitters and facebook down, it seems.
LOL
Someone told me Gordon Brown's having a big election today. Aparrently he only gets an election every five years.
That's the puerile polling joke mentioned again, tune in next election day...

Betting in running with Will Hills: the BNP in Barking have moved out to 6-1, which suggests that Old Nick will lose his tenner he was filmed placing with the aforementioned bookies shop.
As for Paedo Boy Mark Collett, he has a penis that closely resembles a bookies biro.
Spooky, 'eh?
EDL UPDATE:
-----------------------
English Defence League protesters appear before Dudley magistrates
May 6 2010 by Matt Lloyd, Sunday Mercury
MEMBERS of the right-wing English Defence League (EDL) who held a rooftop protest in the Black Country were remanded in custody charged with burglary and inciting religious hatred.
Leon Mccreery, 28, of Dumbarton Road, Stockport, and John Shaw, 39, of Littondale Avenue, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, indicated not guilty pleas before Dudley magistrates yesterday after the Bank Holiday Monday demonstration.
They will appear via video-link at Dudley Magistrates’ Court for a committal hearing on May 10.
The pair allegedly occupied the roof of a disused factory on Hall Street, Dudley, in protest at plans for a new mosque on the site.
During the protest Islamic calls to prayer were played over loud-speakers.
Meanwhile police quashed rumours the pair had been denied access to legal advice whilst in custody which had been spread on social networking site Facebook.
Chief Inspector Matt Markham, who monitored Monday’s protest, said: “All those held in police custody are held in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act and codes of practice which set out clearly the rights of those in custody.”
Of Monday’s police operation to control the EDL protest, which attracted around 200 supporters of the group to Dudley, he said: “The EDL gave us no prior warning as they have done traditionally.”

BNP webshite replaced with a single static web page as of 12.26
The BNP website this afternoon:
A message from Simon Bennett due to the volume of phone calls and emails I am receiving:
This website and domain are no longer in my control. I have not sabotaged it. The domain name has been pointing to the new BNP server since last night (5th May) which is completely out of my hands. If your Emails are affected, again this is completely out of my hands and control.
If you are reading this message it is because they have set up their server incorrectly and this needs to be resolved by the new webmaster.
It is important to note that I have been working hard to negotiate a seamless switchover of the website, but for reasons unknown to me the leadership have chosen to force the domain from me, steal my work, data and systems and go it alone rather than paying for it. I will continue to work hard to try and resolve the situation quickly, professionally and amicably. This is in the hands of Nick Griffin and Jim Dowson, not me.
It should also be noted that they have decided to put a personal grudge against me before the interests of the party and its members. This was not a fight of my choosing.
Bennett posting on BDF:
I have truth on my side and hence nothing to fear. The very fact that Nick is trying to pressure me into signing a non disclosure agreement should tell you something. I have no intentions of signing anything whatsoever.
From the Grauniad's election live blog:
“According to people out campaigning against the BNP in Barking and Dagenham there is no sign of the far-right party’s London organiser, Bob Bailey, who was caught on camera fighting with some local teenagers yesterday. However, the BNP’s London Assembly member, Richard Barnbrook, is apparently furious with Bailey and has been on the phone to party leader Nick Griffin.
This is latest in a series of setbacks for the BNP in recent weeks, but campaigners at Hope Not Hate said this morning that things are still very tight in Barking – particularly in the council elections. Forty or 50 volunteers have already turned up to help get out the anti-racist vote, but they say more are needed – especially from 4pm onwards.”
BNP website now shows letter from Griffin, usual hateful arsewipery.
If you are reading this message it is because they have set up their server incorrectly and this needs to be resolved by the new webmaster.
LOL LOL LOL
Elsewhere, in response to a link to the "new Official BNP page" on Facebook, someone posting as Simon Bennett has said:
LOL... Will they ever learn?
Aside from infringing my "First Design Rights" by using that image / logo on the Facebook page, they are also infringing iStock / Getty copyright as that image was purchased by me on a "once only fee".
As I said - amateurs!
LOL LOL LOL
Re: Bennett
If they are acting like this before the election (when differences are patched over) imagine what it's going to do like after! Griffin's only hope is to get a high vote (I don't expect any MP's or control of a council) so he can spin it to save himself.
Have a look at the BNP's website it's been taken down and replaced by a message from their ex-Webmaster, ha,ha,ha
The website is back up but it still have the copyright notice from Bennett

Good evening friends

Rumour has it that Dick Griffin was delighted when he heard that there was a "huge turnip" for his count. What he didn't reckon on was that that "turnip was Bailey
Has anybody heard rumours of trouble at a Barking polling station this afternoon/evening?
Oh good, Irish Tony is here, it wouldn't be an election night without him on here.
Here is a rough guide to when the results are expected for each constituency.

Denise, The Guardian had this on their blog earlier:-
Another reports BNP intimidation outside the polling station in Eastbury ward, which she says she has reported to the returning officer. Organisers of the anti-BNP campaign say they have had around 150 volunteers so far, but don't know if they will manage to keep Nick Griffin out.

The BBC website carries reports of long queues outside some polling stations at 10pm - do they stay open to allow people in the queue to vote?
No - it would be illegal.
Sunderland results expected soon
2005 bnp results
Sunderland South 1,166 (3.8%)
Sunderland North 1,136 (3.9%)
Houghton and Washington East 1,367 (3.9%)
Boundaries/constituency names have changed but look out for city-wide vote.
Sunderland was the first local authority to field a full slate of candidates in 2004. This year they've only been able to contest half the wards as they're in a real mess.
JohnP - yes, of course, but it still didn't work, I'll try again :)

From the BBC:
2226The BBC producer in Barking, where Nick Griffin is standing for the BNP, says there's a heavy police presence at the count. But so far there is no sign of any anti-BNP protest. Council sources say the turnout in both Barking and neighbouring Dagenham and Rainham is high.
I do hope the Landless Peasants Party do well.

BBC again
"Police have been called to polling stations in Sheffield to move people on who've queued for hours to vote and not been able to. Former Hillsborough MP Helen Jackson says the situation is disgraceful and potentially leaves it open to legal challenge if results are close."
Democracy in action eh?!
I already posted this elsewhere, but in the BNP fight video BNP thug Bob Bailey insulted the Asian lads, calling them "robbers" (why?!) before they came over, then, BEFORE they spat at him, Bob Bailey also called one lad a "***** bugger" (bleeped).
This is not audible in most of the shorter edits of the fight that the BBC broadcast, but can be seen / heard in this footage...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xTIA7zG3l4
As well as convicted drunk-driver Bob Bailey, also involved in this fight were BNP candidate Matthew Tait and NF activist Kieren Trent, as proven in this video...

Houghton - bnp retain deposit
How can going from 3.9 to 5.2 as listed on the BBC a drop in percent.
There was only a 55% turnout in Sunderland and still the BNP share of the vote is down 2%. The higher the voter turn out generally means a smaller share of the vote for the BNP. This result is a good indication that it should be a bad night for the BNP!
5.2% - they just saved it.
'bnp retain deposit'
Perhaps they can use it to pay Simon Bennett for the copyright material they tried to pinch.
Is Houghton Sunderland a different place to Sunderland South, then? Wasn't is 3.9% in Sunderland South last time, and 1961 is a fraction over 5% this - and a saved deposit? If the figures are correct, and my maths. I don't have a TV, so relying on you for the results.
If it is a saved deposit, bad news to start, but hardly a major result; a result that will be forgotten in a few days at most.
"Perhaps they can use it to pay Simon Bennett for the copyright material they tried to pinch"
He'll be lucky.
Bennett's been shafted like the rest of the BNP sheeple!
The size of the swing is worrying, early days yet though
Houghton was not part of the Constituency last time. So difficult to guage BNP support from this one seat. 8 per cent swing to Tories. Labour lost around ten per cent.

It's also one of the reasons why the the Tory vote is up and the swing has been so big
BNP saves deposit in most new Sunderland seats, hows that for a fair summary?
Vote neither up nor down.
The BBC comment is only from a projection. If projections were reliable we wouldn't need to bother voting....
The BBC sympathise with the BNP, or at least some chief executives do, which is a poke in the eye for all of those hard-working BBC journalists on Redwatch.
"The BNP vote is not up"
But equally it isnt down
"It's also one of the reasons why the the Tory vote is up and the swing has been so big"
If the seat didnt exist then the Tories cant have contested it before so their vote isnt up at all.
"Antifascist said...
Houghton BNP vote DOWN 2%"
Not according to Denise, sadly AF.
Griffin at the Barking count
OK, not the same seats as before, but the three seats combined still cover about 98% of the same people as they did in 2005, so to say votes have gone up is fair comment.
But still early days, and the NE is not a great battlezone for UAF or BNP, very much a backwater.
Let's not get too het up as to the exact % swing, but accept that the BNP has improved its vote, by quite a bit, in Sunderland, but nowhere near the extent they need to to be a serious force in the area.
More interesting results will be in soon, at the moment it is 0-0 with the BNP showing a bit more than we would like in the first few minutes, but no goal yet!
"Griffin at the Barking count"
Well he would be, he's standing there!
"The BNP vote is not up"
But equally it isnt down
Er...
BBC 'expert' saying BNP vote in Sunderland has doubled since 2005.
Are you sure that is correct....?
"Griffin at Barking, the c(o)unt" sounds much better.
There are going to be major problems over the polling stations stopping voters casting their votes. Bad stuff.
"BBC 'expert' saying BNP vote in Sunderland has doubled since 2005."
It must be true then eh?
Sunderland C is Sund N and Sund S with slight changes.
If we give the BNP the benefit of the doubt (at 3.8% in Sund S in 2005) then they have increased their vote in Sunderland Central by at best 0.7%.
Or next to nothing.
"There are going to be major problems over the polling stations stopping voters casting their votes."
If people cant turn up at the right times it's their fault. The times are clearly shown.
Its not done on flexi time. If they wanted to vote they could have made the effort to get their on time
"Well he would be, he's standing there!"
Let's lose the sarcasm tonight...unless a fascist chips in.
It is sad that many were unable to cast their votes but the polls were open from 7am to 10pm, how much time do they need?
"If we give the BNP the benefit of the doubt (at 3.8% in Sund S in 2005) then they have increased their vote in Sunderland Central by at best 0.7%."
So now you're agreeing with the BBC that its gone up?
BBC yet again
"0007: Sky News is showing footage of a dispute between would-be voters and election officials in Islington South, after dozens were turned away when polls closed at 10pm. There are also reports that some failed voters in Sheffield are blocking roads around polling stations to stop ballot boxes being removed."
BBC is saying some returning officers extended the hours - is this legal? In closely fought seats the 2nd place candidate may have cause to complain about votes cast after the official deadline
'Let's lose the sarcasm tonight...unless a fascist chips in.'
Oh, I don't know. We could probably use the laughs.
