LIVE election and results blog

What a great night of live election blogging we had last night. Loads of people on, up to the minute results and analysis, lots of laughs and the odd bit of verbal abuse. Great fun! Thanks to all who spent the night with us and made the General Election tolerable. :-)

Dr Andrew Emerson is confident of a strong performance in tonight’s General Election count.
“We hope to beat the Greens and UKIP, and get our deposit back with at least five per cent of the vote.”

There's an astonishing number of lost BNP deposits there. That should cause a problem for Porky Griffin and his sticky-fingered chums.

The New Statesman website reports the BNP lost their target seat of Stoke Central. Nick Griffin's sacrificial lamb Simon Darby attracted 2,502 votes, scoring 7.7% - a good result compared the approx 3% the BNP have been averaging elsewhere, but a bad result by any normal standards, especially seeing how the BNP were gobbing-off about winning this seat outright as it's in their "strongest" area.

No doubt they will (would be if they had a website!!!) be crowing on about beating the lib dems into 3rd place and how they are the true 3rd party.... etc etc.
Anything to avoid having to speak about prick et al
Many thanks K+D.
All we need now is failure at the polls for the the BNP at the Barking and Dagenham council elections. Anyone know when the result is called today?

Griffin is an electoral liability for the BNP he has FAILED in so many places, Oldahm Keighley B/D. Parachuting people in doesnt do the party any favours. They should have known that.

BNP did not have a visible profile for this campaign as far as local media is concerned so this result should ring a few alarm bells locally.
Not in a position to comment about their local campaign.
A great result for Barking! Well done, all the campaigners down there!
And a big thanks to Denise and your massive brain - excellent number crunching!

Surely the BNP cannot be increasing it's share of the vote simply by appearing on more ballot boxes?
The BBC love to hype up the BNP so they can give them more and mroe airtime in a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I know the figures will move slightly as the last results come in, but for the BBC to state "increased its share of the overall vote by 1.83%" is just plain wrong..... their total vote is 1.9%.
By fielding a shed load more candidates they are bound to pick up some votes (mostly in places where they also lost their deposit).
And cyclops is claiming that it was the high turnout that did for him FFS
Oh dear. Even the BNP's wizzy new national organiser managed to lose his deposit.
Clive Jefferson 1,474 3.4%
That's what you get for not facing your public, Jefferson.
STOKE CITY COUNCIL
Seven results out - Labour 6 Lib Dem 1
BNP only contested one of these seven - Bentilee; came 2nd [I think this was a BNP defence]
Also of interest: in Longton North - once 2 seats held by BNP, now no BNP canmdidate. Mark Leat, ex-BNP now EFP, came 5th out of 6 with 10.3%
It seems the BNP scummers have retained their Thurrock and Nuneaton council seats.
STOKE UPDATE
Stoke & Trent Vale Labour
BNP 5th out of 6 10.3%
I now have percentage for Bentilee - BNP 20.5%
I THINK (not entirely sure) this represents a Lab gain from BNP.
p.s. Am I posting this in the right thread?
FURTHER STOKE UPDATE
Both BNP defending councillors defeated.
No BNP wins.
WIPEOUT !!!!!!
Giant smiley !
@ iliacus
Yeah, as all the results were from yesterday, I reckon this is the best place, then we'll pick up on a couple of articles to expand on the locals.
Front of the Guardian
"Brown offers PR referendum"
God, he's desperate to hang on to power, isn't he. It's a pity he's so fucking useless.
Leeds City Council is now a BNP free-zone. Shut the door behind you C.J.Beverley ha ha
Superb coverage of the events last night (and today) LU. Well done to all the contributors.
Until last night I'd never considered UKIP in quite the same way as the BNP, but having met a vile little UKIP agent who spent most of the count chatting enthusiastically with the BNP I might review that opinion ...
Which is by way of mentioning that in Newcastle under Lyme (next door to Stoke), which is something of a UKIP hotbed, they failed to take any seats.
Good.
The BBC journalist at the Lancaster & Fleetwood count reports that they are due to declare imminently. She also says that the likely result will be very, very close, and that there is a very tense atmosphere at the count..
One result to come in Sheffield and it looks like we are going to remain a BNP free zone
BNP have lost three seats on Epping Forest Council....loving it!
Debra Kent recieves a slap on the ear from the electorate. And shes down £500 too... RESULT!
"A great result for Barking! Well done, all the campaigners down there!"
Seconded...Nick Lowles and his team deserve a big pat on the back!
Dicky Bumcrook loses council seat! have the BNP got anyone left??
Lancaster and Fleetwood
Conservative 15,404 36.1 +2.5
Labour 15,071 35.3 -7.1
Liberal Democrat 8,167 19.1 +3.5
Green 1,888 4.4 -1.4
UK Independence Party 1,020 2.4 -0.1
British National Party 938 2.2 +2.2
Independent 213 0.5 +0.5
That Lady Debra got a measly 938 votes - HA!
The BNP have been totally wiped out in Barking and Dagenham.
Thank you to everyone involved in the Barking campaign and most of all, thanks to the electorate who showed that when the crunch comes they and the rest of the country are at heart basically decent people.
@JohnP "The BNP have been totally wiped out in Barking and Dagenham." - Yey! I saw that and I think the neighbours think I've won the pools ;-)
So I wonder what the excuse will be, Griffin blamed his poor perforamce on the 'high turnout'.
Little Bob will probably complain he's been misunderstood - Ah diddums!
But full marks to the people of B&D
In the local council elections, the BNP have already lost 22 councillors in city councils today, and have only 12 in the UK.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/election2010/council/html/region_99999.stm
Pig-farmer Griffin has been well and truly fucked up the rear end by the electorate!
down 22 council seats already. Cant help but laugh and laugh a lot. Not only did their vote go down in barking they are losing all thier councillors as well
Griffin will face interval revolt in the BNP.
Quite fitting for an ugly despicable bastard who denies the Holocaust happened!
Wander what Dicky Bumbrook's thinking right now, seeing the BNP vanish from London as fast as they arrived?
See this picture for the Guardian, where Griffo has been pictured grinning like a Cheshire cat after the resounding defeat?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2010/may/07/nick-griffin-bnp-pressure-quit
He's probably laughing at his sheeple who continue to line the greedy crook's pockets so he can live the high life.
You can bet your bottom dollar his members are not smiling!
"The BNP have been totally wiped out in Barking and Dagenham"
Let the infighting commence....Get the popcorn in !
Porker is smirking like a naughty schoolkid at having lost £56000 of his members dosh, the stupid brainless c*nt.
