Internal splits threaten BNP's chances in London Assembly poll

The British National Party is gripped by civil war amid bitter personality clashes and claims of dirty tricks by rival factions.

Nick Griffin, the leader of the far-right party, is facing vehement criticism of his stewardship. The party has hopes of winning seats in the London Assembly next year. Tensions within party ranks came to a head when two key organisers were accused of plotting a coup against Mr Griffin and sacked for "gross misconduct". But they have been backed by at least 50 activists and councillors, setting the scene for a struggle for control of the party. The rebels insist they are loyal to the BNP, but some observers suspect another extreme right-wing grouping could emerge to challenge the party.

Activists' anger focuses on two of Mr Griffin's allies – Mark Collett, the party's director of publicity, and Dave Hannam, its regional organiser – and the BNP leader's support for them. The criticism has been led by Sadie Graham, the head of group development, and Kenny Smith, head of administration. The pair were removed from their posts following an investigation by the BNP's "intelligence team" which was alleged to have tricked its way into Ms Graham's home and taken away computers.

She and Mr Smith were dismissed for setting up an "anti-BNP smear blog" and for plotting a "spectacularly ill-timed and amateurish alleged coup attempt". An email written by Ms Smith and a recording of a conversation between the pair have been posted on the BNP website to substantiate the claim.

Simon Darby, the BNP spokesman, said last night: "They have been caught out getting involved in some very unsavoury business. You have to have discipline in a political party or you have chaos."

The exiles have retaliated by calling for a grassroots revolution to take control of the party. They say that, despite record numbers of councillors, BNP morale has hit an all-time low. They are calling on sympathisers to stay in the BNP, but to resign from party positions and not to renew their membership for the moment. Councillors are urged to quit the party whip and describe themselves as "independent Nationalists".

The rebel faction says: "This fight is for our country and our people as much as it is for the party we love."

The BNP was itself born out of a feud when the right-wing National Front imploded in the 1980s. After struggling to make an impact for a decade, it secured its first council seat in 1993 in Tower Hamlets, London. But it languished until 1999 when Mr Griffin became leader and set about modernising the party. It achieved a breakthrough in Burnley in 2003, when it won three council seats.

Its progress has been steady, but not spectacular, over the past four years. Its strategists believe it is now well placed to win seats in the London Assembly and the European Parliament. After last year's local elections the party had 55 councillors, the most in its history but below its expectations before the contest.

Mr Darby insisted that 90 per cent of BNP members were not interested in the in-fighting and that the storm would "blow over".

Nick Lowles, spokesman for the anti-fascist group Searchlight, said: "This is a very serious split and one I cannot see being reconciled. One side or another is going to leave the party."

Firstly can i please give troll alert on "too little too late" postings. I do wish they would bugger off.

The posting on East Birmingham blog at 12.26pm made for a very insightful read, the analysis appears to be spot on. But, Dicky should now be running for cover, it could be read that he will most certainly be next in Griffins firing line, if only because Dickys ego is the size of Mount Everest he will read that, people will phone him and he will convince his drink sodden brain that only he can save the BNP.

Well lets face it to the outside world through the press and the media his is the face of the BNP success he allegedly leads the biggest group of bnp councillors in the country, he is aiming to take on Ken Livingstone, as well as bidding for a GLA seat, and because of proportional voting could possibly scrape in. So who do the 'public' recognise, Dicky not Griffin, and Griffin wont like that, but it will appeal to Dickys ego.
He is probably in the Denman right now soaking up his daytime drinks surrounded by his adoring muppets who will convince him that only he can save them.
At about midnight tonight he will fall out of the Denman, totally forget where he parked his moped, phone the police again to report it stolen and then stumble home, all the while convinced that he is now the Saviour of the BNP and soon to be its next Leader.

On the BNP website Griffin says "I’m off to Leicester’s AGM tomorrow" - I don't remember a "Leicester Branch" featuring in the BNP accounts.

All interesting stuff. We should not, however, forget that there is a way in which the BNP could ultimately be strengthened from all of this. The gains they have made to date have been achieved despite the well-known flaws of the leadership. Try as they may, they simply cannot run from the holocaust denying, racist criminal nazi tags that are branded so firmly into some of them. Consider, however, what might happen if the ‘dissidents’ actually used the Party mechanism to get rid of Griffin, Darby, Collett et al. Suddenly, with one stroke, those most associated with the negative images are gone. It could even be presented as a major coup, an extremist Party rebelling and ridding themselves of the extremists. Then comes the more acceptable, less extreme face of nationalism without the deadweight, and ultimately fatal, baggage.

Now, I’ve no idea about the BNP’s constitution or what it would take to oust the leader. I do, however, note from the various blogs that there is an extraordinary resistance to this. Most of the ramblings simply urge Griffin to shed Collett and a few others, as if that were the real issue. In reality, getting rid of Griffin, who is surely someone few in the Party could now work with, is the real solution as, from that, all else follows. Their obvious reluctance suggests to me either that the Party constitution makes this very difficult or that there is no obvious succession or consensus grouping. I’ve no idea whether the likes of Sadie Graham have any real credibility and capability. Equally it appears as if the Party is really little more than a collection of loosely aligned self-interests with no real mutual trust, respect or common purpose. If that’s the case, then the indecision and lack of cohesion is more understandable. The lack of any move to force Griffin out probably tells us most of what we need to know. This might, however, change if support in London collapses. By this, I of course mean electoral support. I’ve no doubt that the London BNP have their own agenda, which may or may not align with Griffin. This will not be tested until their own position is tested, or otherwise.

The issue is not Collett but Griffin. None of the Graham-Smith group is stupid enough to believe he will simply let them back in and forget all this. He would undermine them and drive them out one by one. Griffin's handlers can't save him this time but I'm sure they'll look after him when he retires. Gives a whole new meaning to the term 'state pension', doesn't it?

Read the other post and discover how griffins dad worked for MI5. State control was used to save Nick Griffin from bancrupcy, and help the bnp grow.

With David Cameron the bookies favourite to win the election, MI5 are helping remove any alternative rightwing opposition by asking "Nasty Nark Nick" to call time on the bnp, just as he did to the National Front all those years ago.

Conservative governments are always the favoured option of the secret services.

@ Denise

LOL!

Yeah, transparent these nazi types, ain't they?

I'm really one of you, but I want griffins/sadies babies

Just what we'd really say, ain't it?

I'd love to know how many are just idiots, chancing it on their own, and how many are idiots doing it because of orders from on high.

As for Sanctuarys comments, the best case scenario is that any misguided moderates leave the party, and I'm sure there are many in there, and then all you are left with is old fashioned nazis like griffin and co, who are easy to expose, and he's not going to be forced out, so we should come out of this ahead.

Before anyone jumps down my throat for saying there are possibly reasonable people in the BNP please think about it first.

I'm not condoning anyone, or supporting anyone, just dealing with facts.

If you go back to the 1930s we saw economic turmoil, and the rise of Hitler in Germany, Mosley in England, and the kkk in America, because during times of economic hardships that's what people do, they look for scapegoats, and some unscrupulous types exploit race at those times.

The same thing happened in the 70s, when we saw the rise of the national front, it coincided with economic hardships, and high unemployment, people had no money, no jobs, and were looking for some one to lash out at.

The same is true now, the recent rise in the BNPs fortunes is despite Griffin, not because of him, we've had domestic terrorism, rising immigration, and we're watching our economy on a down swing, all factors in persuading the gullible to join parties like the BNP, it doesn't make them bad people, just misguided.

If you go to places like stormfront, and vnn in particular, you can actually see the far more honest yanks begging for an economic meltdown, because they think they can exploit it, and if you look at griffin he's frequently targeted sink estates, for the same reasons.

I don't blame some poor, unemployed teenager for supporting the BNP, he's grown up with no hopes, on a rundown, often violent, and crime ridden estate, he's desperately trying to find answers and make sense of the world, of course his head my be turned if the only person to ever take notice of him, and offer him a solution, is a racist.

All he needs is a little education, and a little hope, and he could yet become a useful member of society, so I'm not going to condemn him for his folly.

It's not the ordinary members to blame, it's the poisoned leadership who mislead them, they are the problem, although we've been lucky that for 25 years the worlds biggest incompetent has been leading them.

Let's face it, he helped wreck the national front, the last big threat, then helped wreck the finances of the ITP, and now stands as the chief wrecking ball for the BNP.

I think it's safe to say that if you'd put a trained monkey as head of the BNP, in the climate of the last 5 or 6 years, 9/11, 7/7, growing public discontent with immigration, anti-islamic fervor, etc., etc., he'd have probably delivered better results than Griffin, in fact if you look to Europe, where they've seen a rise of the far right, it's not inconceivable that in the hands of a half way competent, political savvy leader the BNP might have reached 10 or 15% public backing, instead of the derisory 1 or 2% that they average in the polls.

We should thank our lucky stars we have an idiot like Griffin running our nazis, and let's hope that he's there until the ship finally sinks.

I agree, the best case scenario is that any misguided moderates leave the party, and then all that will be left is old fashioned nazis like griffin and co, who are easy to expose, and I'm smiling from ear to ear as I think that's what's going to happen.

It's a good day, the BNP is weakened, but their biggest liabilities remain, we couldn't have asked for more.

Woah, didn't I just ramble?

If he is sacked from the bnp, Nazi Boy Collett will reveal the "secret" that we already know, that Nick Griffin is on the MI5 payroll, backed up with photographs, secret tape recordings, and invoices which offer irreputable evidence of Griffin's secret life.

The 'State sponsored BNP' conspiracy theory would only make sense if

(1) The Labour government were certain that the BNP were taking more votes away from the Tories than from themselves, AND they were sufficiently cynical and morally corrupt to set up a hate-organisation for their own electoral benefit.

OR

(2) Sections of the state security apparatus are outside government control (but then does this really count as state-sponsored?)

As regards (1) I don't believe either necessary condition applies. The evidence is that the BNP gain votes disproportionately at Labour's expense, and I really don't believe that Tony Blair with his 'Christian principles' and desire to leave a legacy would have spent years puppeteering fascists.

As for (2), is the government so incompetent that it doesn't know what it's own security forces are up to?

I think we can lay this conspiracy theory to rest once and for all.

For all the disgruntled nazi types who have been wandering in here for the last few days asking what does Collett have over Griffin, let me, someone who never will be a member of your party, explain the answer to you, and how do I know the answer, you might ask, being a non-member, its because, unlike you, I have more than one brain cell.

What does Collett have over Griffin?

Drum roll please!

Nothing!

Ta-da!

It's that simple folks, sorry to disappoint, but you all look at it from the wrong end.

It's not what Collett has over Griffin that keeps him around, it's what Griffin has over Collett.

Take off your 1930's German hand crafted blinkers, for a minute and think about it.

Mark Collett is a useless excuse for a human being. If not for the BNP what would he be? He'd be one of lifes failures, in fact even with the BNP he is one of lifes failures, so he NEEDS the BNP, which means he NEEDS Griffin.

Without good old uncle Nick he'd be out of his cushy job. Without good old uncle Nick he'd never get on TV, and no one would ever take a blind bit of notice of him, except to maybe stop and laugh. Without good old uncle Nick he'd be beaten up by half the nazis in the country, and without good old uncle Nick he'd be kicked out of the party.

His whole existance exists because of Griffin, and because of this he is 100% loyal, to the point where he will do whatever he's ordered to do, and wouldn't ever think of betraying his master, or more importantly challenging for power.

Therefore Nick Griffin has himself a multipurpose lap dog, to stupid to ask questions, or spot any scams, and who is no threat to his position of power.

That's why Griffin keeps Collett, he's an idiot who works as a buffer between Griffin and anyone with commonsense, and thus helps keeps him in power.

I mean if you put anyone with two brain cells in a real position of authority within the BNP Griffin would be gone in five minutes flat.

Griffin doesn't surround himself with people that own him, he surrounds himself with idiots that he owns.

Here ends a basic lesson in the leadership of your little nazi party, and as you can see it didn't involve any reds, MI5, anti-racists, jews, blacks, or islamic militants, all it involved was the fact that you're so stupid, that a slightly less stupid man than you can own you.

People have tried this tactic in the past, like Hitler for instance, interesting tactics last weekend, people said it reminded them of the Stasi, I think the Gestapo would be a better simile.

You do not deserve to even breath the same air as the great man who has made countless sacrifices for this country.
It wasn't the country that caused him to lose his eye, putting a shotgun shell on a fire for laugh can be dangerous and most kids learn not to put fireworks on fire at a young age. If there is one example of why gun ownership in this country should be very tightly controlled, Dear Nick is one of the perfect examples.

To sit behind computer screens in the comfort of your council homes and poke fun at the BNP is a perfect example of why you are all scum.
Personally I own my own house and run my own business unlike most people I've had the misfortune to run in to from the BNP over the years. I'm from a council estate and went to a very poor school in the 1970's and I don't like people making comparisons between social standing and intelligence. It's only a few years ago that Dear Nick was stacking shelves in a supermarket and he has a very fine 3rd class degree from Oxford.
As for the bit about sitting behind our computer screens ect, I think the term you are looking for is keyboard warriors.

Now lets come to you green marrow.
It has been said that you are so boring even trees walk away and have a face like a melted welly but I didn't believe them until I overheard Dear Nick in a service station whilst on the phone to somebody say "I've seen better looking things being cut off my bollocks"
I did challenge him about the statement but he was more than willing to stand by the comment.
Fair enough I though so I left it there.

Now a serious question. As Stormfront is a proscribed website what are you going to do the get rid of all the BNP members using it, like yourself and Dear Nick or does that rule only work when it suits?

I look forward to your response but would rather wank with a fistful of angry bees than meet you in person as you scare me.
You ever had a breakdown? you are walking towards one

Three of us came back a few hours ago from a meeting in Leicestershire where Sadie Graham attended along with Nick Griffin. It was a difficult meeting as there were points and issues being thrown about from all sides. I was choked by the boldness of Sadie standing up there and arguing her corner with a very slick and experienced politician. This is the guy who flabbergasted Jeremy Paxman on NewsNight. Well Sadie took him on and didnt look phased at all. She spoke for 20 minutes and then Nick spoke for 45 minutes. The unfortunate thing was Sadie wasnt able to answer the things that Nick raised, I dont think that was too fair and was poor management of the meeting. Although he spoke very well and clearly, he was very shaken by what sadie was saying. He doesnt realise how much support she has, especially in her region. Everyone in that meeting wants to see the party go forward and win, but everyone does think that changes must be made to its current structure. I certainly dont want to see us lose sadie as she is an asset to us. One interesting turn of events was a unanimous vote in favour of Sadie keeping her party membership. It was funny that collett seconded this and this was definitley a planned turn of events. It was not any kind of resolution at all because Sadie has done nothing wrong so not only should retain her membership but also her national post. It was a shame that no one proposed to motion a vote against Mark Collett to be expelled, that would have been passed I am sure. The East Midlands is really behind Sadie, she needs everyones support at this crucial time.

BEWARE, FOLKS: The new BNP membership forms will have more small print than a life assurance contract, and will contain an additional clause that will specify:

Anybody who resigns or is sacked, will forfeit all subscription fees and money loaned to the party".

Norsepupil on Stormfront,

The nightmare is not over.

What has happened is rather like a Christmas day truce. Sadie told Nick what she wanted and Nick has gone to think about it, but he has told her that he will not climb down on his principles and she said neither will she.

The problem is that the EiE group had now moved on to attacking Griffin and he does no like that, nor do some other serious people.

I can also report sadly that there has been some threats amounting to actual acts of violence between individuals who have taken this opportunity to air silly, stupid grievances. This may well hold back the "peace" process.

Politically it (the party) has never been off track, but in terms of personality the party has been severly derailed. Sadie's prepared to climb down and refute a number of arguments/issues but some of the more salient accusations remain up in the air. Nobody likes being called a thief, for instance.

And I know he reads this, so I would ask a certain individual to desist threatening to "knee cap" people, when he has already caused so much trouble. Nor does he have the authority or the balls to do so.

Progress has been made, but as Nick said "all that we need now is Green Arrow to blog how brilliant his latest bowel movement was to seal the deal."

Sadie laughed (I pissed myself) but we are a long way from Valhalla still.

Why is Griffin making out the troublemakers are the rebels?

Bloody bullshit.

The shit-stirrers were griffin darby and chums who started this by sacking the most useful members of the party.

That meeting in Leicester last night was stage-managed, to prevent Sadie from defendin herself.

Theres no way back from this nick griffin you lyin and cheatin bastard.

you are history!

Green Arrow's a pussy of the most cowardly kind.

Does Green Arrow sleep with Nick Griffin?

Anonymous said...

You want everyone to kiss your ass and say sorry, nick griffin?

You must be living in clowd cuckoo land.

This will only end when yourself, Darby, and Collett resign.

Do the honourable thing, nick. Go now before the permanent damage is done, and the real truth comes about about your collusion with the secret services.

It's a horrible thought - There won't ever be a party without a Griffin at the helm.

When Griffin stands down, her freak show Addams Family daughter is being set up to take over, to continue the family dynasty.

She's a twisted and spiteful, and this isn't on.

We won't accept it.

Griffin's daughter, YUK!!!!!!!!

Griffin's daughter - even worse than Nick the crooked egotist, himself.

Odin, spare us from this one, lol

Who does have the "authority" to kneecap people in the bnp?

Answers on a postcard.

Anonymous said...

Threatening to kneecap dissidents will hardly keep them from speaking to the press. Okay, the papers don't give a shit, now, but sooner or later they will listen, and blow griffin's cover.

It's the BNP goddamn it! The world needs to know how this mighty party is being cut down by trickster leaders like griffin and darby who want us to fail.

Everywhere you look on newspaper guestbooks and weblogs, you see pro griffin troll comments on the net from bnp members. Most of these seem to come from Green Arrow and some creep called George Deighton from Kent.

Who the fuck's this Deighton arsehole (if he really exists?)

Is he an old friend of Griffin? A party donor?

Or just a slimy nobody of a nutzi who likes to see his name posted online?

@ Anon

The BNP's keyboard army fighting valliantly on the eroding front-line...

Just post links to relevant articles on this site and watch them go into overdrive trying to bury your comments.

Actually, post links to this site wherever you happen to visit - let's get the truth of the BNP out to a wider audience.

They're afraid more bnp members will turn rebel. Spineless cowards, the lot of them, especially Darby

Anonymous said...

Does George Deighton really exist?

Unknown said...

You mean this George Deighton:

"I am studying the Nazi haulacust"?

Anonymous said...

Sounds as thick as they come. lol

Anonymous said...

Isn't he from Islington?

Anonymous said...

"Sadie spoke for 20 minutes, then Nick spoke for 45 minutes"

And I thought there was a UN declaration against cruel and unusual punishment!

Does Green Sparrow realise that even Nick Griffin views him as an idiot?

If I praised someone to the hilt, and that person then turned round and called me the things Griffin calls Green Arrow I'd be very, very, very upset.

'At about midnight tonight he will fall out of the Denman, totally forget where he parked his moped, phone the police again to report it stolen and then stumble home, all the while convinced that he is now the Saviour of the BNP and soon to be its next Leader.'

Nice cartoon. Anyone would think you actually knew the bloke, which you obviously don't.
