The British National Party no longer has a Calderdale councillor after its last member was sacked for refusing to toe the line, the party has said.
Geoffrey Wallace, who represents Illingworth and Mixenden, had the party whip removed for backing two planning applications to develop properties on green belt – a direct contravention of party policy, it said. It means, just nine months after the death of Labour councillor Tom McElroy opened up the possibility the ward could become the first in the country to be entirely represented by BNP councillors, the party is now unrepresented. Barry Collins, Labour member for the area, said: "It's splendid news. There should be no place for this party in Illingworth or Mixenden."
HalifaxMP Linda Riordan added: "It is good to see the BNP now have no councillors on Calderdale Council, which is exactly how it should be for a party that preaches hatred and division."
Councillor Wallace, the party's prospective Parliamentary candidate during the 2005 General Election, is said to have backed proposals to build on green land, including developing an agricultural property at Mason Green. The application was later turned down.
A BNP spokesman said: "We are a party of strong principles and if it means losing councillors who renege on party policies, that is what we will do."
After the death of Tom McElroy, the party came within a few hundred votes of winning the by-election and becoming the only party in Illingworth and Mixenden. In May's elections, group leader Richard Mulhall was ousted. It is now likely Coun Wallace will serve as an independent. He declined to comment.

We know the BNP is not a party of strong principles at all, and that the party has been happy to have convicted gang rapists, drug dealers and football hooligans standing in council elections. It looks more like the BNP is jumping on to a handy bandwagon which might win them a few extra votes and is getting rid of a minor irritant at the same time by getting its own back on Wallace, who ignored its obsession with all things Islam by saying nothing when Alan Clegg, the leader of the Independent group on the council, called for the burka and niqab to be banned for all staff working in the council's offices. As opposing Islam seems to be the central tenet of the BNP these days, it's not surprising he's been booted out using the first available pretext.

As usual.
"As opposing Islam seems to be the central tenet of the BNP these days, it's not surprising he's been booted out using the first available pretext."
That sounds about right.
Yes, the neo-nazis of Yorkshire looked for any excuse to dump Wallace, and thus, reducing their number of councillors further.
I wander if one of their principles was so return to hardline Holocaust denial? Nick Griffin appearing alongside Irving was hardly what one might call "principled".
Neither is Halifax BNP's renowned and proven links to the Leeds United Service Crew and Combat 18.
Hope the people of Halifax watch the Anne Frank documentary in the new year, to realise who in fact the BNP are.
The BNP is loyal to no-one, so it makes no sense that the anyone is loyal to the BNP.
Nick Griffin take note.

Opposing Islam is very attractive for the BNP, it saves them having to exercise whatever they've got inside their shaven heads by needing to think original thoughts. All their Islamophobic material appears to have been lifted from neocon websites. They seldom if ever refer to neocon books (What's a book?)
So if you're a Fascist who's short of something to put on the blog today, just do a trawl through Spencer's or Pipes' copious archives. A quick copy/paste with a paragraph of venomous ranting hatred at each end and the job's done.

Reminds me of the way the BNP gave the Cromies of Queensbury the cold shoulder over Lewthwaite although they are still officially BNP members (for the time being). Whereas there have been rumours the Cromies might join the rival BPP, Wallace will serve as an independent until election time then probably leave politics for good.
Getting rid of the only member in Halifax with political experience with a proper political party (he used to be a Tory) shows how the neo-nazi party is in decline.
Another BNP stronghold vanishes.
Calderdale GONE!!!
Keighley GONE!!!
Blackburn GONE!!!!
Oldham FINISHED!!!
Sandwell LAST LEGS!!!
Bradford IN CHAOS!!!
Kirklees IN CHAOS!!!
What next?

Griffin's plan to destroy the BNP is working. I wonder how much they pay him?
How come someone with some savvy of politics gets the boot by Nicholarse whilst he surrounds himself with his entourage of arse-wipers who havent an ounce of common sense. Apparently there were dozens of BNP members gorping out of the windows at their Blackpool Conference. Strange hey that only IndyMedia are showing ONE picture which shows just Hannam and Collett. If Herr Griffin is to be believed there must be many more, come on where are they?

In their statement saying they had sacked Geoffrey Wallace, the BNP said it had 79 councillors.
Where the hell does that figure come from?
The last time I looked they had less than fifty elected councillors.
No, don't tell me they told a lie!!
"79 councillors ... where the hell did that figure come from?"
Unlike every other political party, the BNP has taken to including parish councillors in its figures. This is a nonsense for several reasons:
a. parish councillors have virtually no powers
b. there is no central record of the membership of parish councils
c. most parish councils are non party political
d. parish councils are allowed to co-opt members, and very often do (many councils struggle to find councillors for reason a above)
e. most Con/ Lab/ Lib Dem members who serve on their local parish councils do not declare any party label when nominated as they view the role as non-party.
The fact that the BNP resort to including their parish councillors in their total just shows how desperately poorly they have done in electing councillors.
