EDL cancels Bolton protest

The 'respectful' English Defence League having a spot of bother with the police
The right-wing English Defence League has cancelled its planned demonstration in Bolton

The group said it took the decision because a Hindu religious festival is due to be held there on the same day, March 6. It also claimed to have received information that 'far-left groups were planning to attack Hindus whilst dressed in EDL clothing'.

In a statement on its website however, the EDL said it would rearrange a demonstration in the town in 'due course'. It warned that 'no street, town or city was off-limits'.

The announcement of the Bolton rally followed ugly scenes in Manchester in October. The group's protestors made Nazi salutes and sang patriotic songs during a tense stand-off with United Against Fascism (UAF) around Piccadilly Gardens and Ancoats. It resulted in 44 arrests and 10 injuries as sticks and bottles were thrown when riot police and police on horseback intervened.

In the statement on Bolton, the EDL said: “This decision was taken in light of the fact that a Hindu religious festival is scheduled for the same day, at the same time and in the same location as our planned demonstration. Due to the respect we have for the peace-loving Hindu community, we deemed it only right and proper that we cancel our own plans to ensure their safety. We hope that the action we have taken will be taken as further proof that we stand only against Muslim extremists. No other decent, honest, peaceful person or group has anything to fear from the EDL.”

The group, which describes itself as a peaceful, non-political protest group campaigning against ‘militant Islam’, had contacted police informally by telephone about staging a demonstration in Victoria Square. A Fair Trade event is also planned for the town centre on the same day.

The announcement of the planned protest was greeted with widespread condemnation from Bolton MPs and religious groups.

The EDL are trying to do exactly the same that Nick Griffin did before the riots of ten years ago, approaching extreme Hindu an Sikh leaders to try to divide and conquer!

Sadly the neo-Nazi EDL trolls are having a fuckin' fash field day on the Bolton News website: -

http://forum.theboltonnews.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=64426&sid=8b8ec766530ebf908387c8017e8e9379

(just read this extreme racist bullshit post-
"Blacks and Asians choose to live here.
They create 'no-go' areas where we white people can't walk into anymore without fear of being robbed, raped, or murdered.
Of course the PC idiots that have far too much clout in this country are oblivious..........until it happens to them.)

Newsquest allows Nazi trolls to post racism with absolute inpunity.

Has anyone reading Lancaster Unity ever bothered to complain to Newsquest (Gannett)?

Newsquest obviously approve of racism, as evident from the Oxfordshire Forum where posters supporting the BNP go by the name of "Hitler".

There needs to be an official antu-racist/Searchlight response to these lies, as the EDL's trolls are busy burning midnight oil to make people believe their sick, evil lies.

They obviously wouldn't be able to stop the EDL mob attacking brown people randomly thus evaporating the myth that this organisation has anything to do with religion

Yes, several times and to no avail. I gave up eventually.

I would have been happy to except for the emphasis in the article on 'Hindu extremists'. Using the specious argument that Hindus are as bad a Muslims is not terribly useful, in my opinion.

The EDL is learning a lot about propaganda from its BNP masters and the media is obviously lapping it up.

The EDL staement implies that Muslims whom the EDL identifies as extremists do have something to fear.

I'm slowly coming to the opinion that the EDL have developed into 'pseudo-gang' administered and directed by Griffin. The EDL started out independently as an offshoot of UPL (United Peoples of Luton) but has effectively been taken over by the BNP in recent months.

The EDL lie about everything else so why shouldn't they lie about this?! Because of EDL violence in Stoke, what at 1st glance may have looked like their greatest "victory" may yet turn out to have been the EDL's greatest DEFEAT - which is why they had to try and avoid the violence their supporters would inevitably create in Bolton. The reason EDL cancelled on Bolton is because they knew their supporters couldn't be prevented from attacking Hindus, and because they knew the impact of the publicity would destroy what little remains of their political credibility

Most important thing to remember is that whichever way EDL try to spin it their cancelling ANY demo is (like the original EDL cancellation in Harrow last August and then the cancellation in Newport) an important victory for Anti-Fascism

I can tell you that this is cr4p. I cannot submit taped evidence but I can tell you that Griffin is fearful that the EDL will steal the thunder of the (perhaps/inevitable/inexcusable ....delete as appropriate but that's not the point) BNP which is the political entity gaining support in those estates which used to vote in Labour MPs but who knows what will happen in May. The EDL are not standing candidates but the word from Griffin is he wants them to "f3ck off" as they are spoiling his pitch.

It would appear that the EDL/BNP is afraid of the behaviour of its own membership.

Yes, for about 7 years now. They don't like me!

The BNP are a customer of Newsquest and paid Newsquest £13,000 to run BNP adverts last year. When Newsquest were challenged about running BNP adverts they claimed that they were bound by law to do it. Not according to the electoral commission they aren't.

Newsquest have also banned anti-fascists from their site but have never properly moderated it which has allowed it to get out of hand. The cost is that The BNP have been successful in recruiting at least 2 people, disrupting a forum for years and working their propaganda into people's minds via the forum.

The EDL are going to Bradford now, surely this will not be allowed to take place? Or should it? Maybe they will meet their match there with the Moslem youth

I don't think seeing the BNP being as behind the EDL is all that fanciful. The EDL isn't going away so the BNP could think it wise to usurp it and control it.

This is what Lee Barnes of the BNP wrote in June 2009 (just as the EDL was still in embryo):

"The National Front is an organisation for those people who are Street Activists, not political activists. When it sticks to street activism it does a superb job…The National Front must become the Nationalist counterpart to the Leftist UAF.The NF should be organising massive Armistice Day celebrations, demonstrations, festivals, rock concerts, marches, cultural events and many other nationalist cultural events, not wasting theit time on electioneering.… this is precisely the role that the NF would do best."

Now, substitute EDL for NF and you could see how a street active EDL could be benifical to the BNP.

The Government, via the Police, have asked community elders and Imams to reign in the local youth and not allow themselves to be provoked by the EDL. It makes sense if you think about it as a riot would only suit the EDL's purposes.

no wonder griffin wants the EDL to f...off,as he is loosing members, activists and organsiers to them, the griffin $ is now virtually worthless and cyclops is in a panic.

A lot of us have thought about it and reached a different conclusion. There are two kinds of "riots". The first kind is the EDL unopposed by anti-fascists running riot and attacking Asians. The second kind is massive opposition to the EDL denying them control of the streets, demoralising and demotivating them.

Or the third is an explosive outpouring of anger by the local Asian community at the inactivity of our government while the thugs of the EDL are able to rempage through our streets, which the fascists will then cite as "evidence" of racial tension in our cities as a direct consequence of non-white immigration. That's the strategy here.

The EDL will not be able to rampage thru the streets if there are enough of us out to oppose them with the Police having to get in between, control the EDL and arrest far more of them than they otherwise would.
