The British National party (BNP) will be issued with a fine for failing to issue a return to the Electoral Commission concerning its donations. The party will be issued with a separate fine for failing to deliver their latest annual statement of accounts.
"This is unacceptable and the party will be issued with fines for both reporting failures," said Peter Wardle, chief executive of the Electoral Commission. "We will also be assessing the systems they have in place to ensure compliance with the law.”
The BNP were not the only small party to face the disapproval of the commission, with the Co-operative party and the Christian party both reporting "very large" donations late.
"We'll be assessing the systems they have in place to ensure compliance with the law and expect to see them reporting donations on time in the future," Mr Wardle said.
The Conservatives received the most donations, with £6,394,673 going to the opposition. Labour received £4,391,632, while the Liberal Democrats received £1,132,079. The 20 political parties registered in Great Britain received a total of £13.2 million in donations between April and June 2009, according to returns handed in to the commission. Figures were higher than normal, a fact most analysts put down to the local and European elections.
“This was the fourth highest quarter ever for donations – the second highest outside a general election quarter – and we received donations reports from a larger number of parties than usual," Mr Wardle said.

More fines, more inefficiencies, more financial incompetence?
They couldn't run a proverbial.
could Grffo pay the fines out of his own pocket or donate some of his eu money rather than appeal again to cash strapped party members after all it was them that got him elected to his 100K role, he owes them something for that.
Ha, more membership fees down the plughole nbecause Dave Hannam can't add up and only has the job because he's Collett's schoolgirl-hunting mate. Bunch of fucking wasters and pervs.
Didn't the BNP recently appoint a trained accountant to oversee the books and avoid crap like this - or was that just another non-job for Simon Darby?
The BNP gets into this state because it's a party run by crooks for the benefit of crooks. A report in the Times today on this same matter has this sentence at the end of it, which says it all really
"The Times revealed in May that Nick Griffin, the party’s leader, paid a £5,000 political donation into his personal bank account without declaring it."
Of couse he did. He's a third-rate con man.
Yet another financial disaster for the BNP. God, you could fill a book with this stuff.
Two fines in one year. Wow, the BNP is doing well. Here's hoping for a third!
I love it when the BNP fucks up (and it happens so often).

If they asked him for a contribution he's probably die of shock.
Griffin was bankrupt twice, how did he afford that lovely house in Welshpool ?

Yes he's a drunken Ulsterman named John Thompson, who fiddles the books for Jim Dowson when he's sober and helps part-time with the BNP's dodgy accounts. Can anybody out there find me info on this 'accountant,' he may have even been struck off in the past?

When are the bogus trade union Solidarity's accounts published? It would be interesting to see if Griffin's donation shows up?
I wonder if the BNP cash cows are waking up. There's a definite decrease in comments on Darby's ego-trip blog.
During the elections he was getting lots of 'ooh you are great, Simon, I'd willingly sell my kidney for you' comments.
It's amazing how blase (sorry, don't know how to do one of those accest things) the BNP is about its member's money.

Very true.
Practice makes Perfect
The ICF (West Ham) and Bushwhackers (Millwall) were on exercise last night practicing self defence techniques in preparation for the next English Defence League protest against the Islamification of the country. A spokesman from the claret team said the manoeuvres were to refresh tactics used in the 1970's.

The BNP almost being skint have taken what they call the brain drain to work in europe alongside brons ang griffin ? Hence needing to employ more people on U.K. operations. They advertised internally but anyone whose C.V. showed an ounce of common sense was ripped up and binned and only the junkies, alcoholics, inbreds and paedos were considered.Griffin knows by doing this the freaks can be blamed for cock ups to which i hear are now an hourly occurance which is causing many long term activists to resign.Sit back and watch this space and watch the collapse of the circus unfold beacuse im going to enjoy this as much as you.
Oh dear oh dear, not again. LOL
More incompetance -- now we know why Jenny Noble was sacked!
The BNP are facing huge fines and possible prosecution after they failed to submit records of donations.
The party faced an unprecedented warning from the head of the Electoral Commission after they also failed to submit their annual accounts to the watchdog, as required by electoral law.
Mystery surrounds how the BNP funded their European election campaign, which resulted in record gains for the party including the election of two MEPs.
Peter Wardle, the chief executive, issued a stark warning to the party.
“We have not yet received a donation return for this quarter from the British National Party. This comes on top of their failure to deliver their latest annual statement of accounts to the Commission. This is unacceptable and the party will be issued with fines for both reporting failures. We will also be assessing the systems they have in place to ensure compliance with the law.”
In May the party claimed that it has £500,000 for the European and county council elections.
The party has declared donations of £21,132 for the first quarter of this year. Only those of more than £5,000 must be submitted to the Electoral Commission and Mr Griffin said that the remainder of its funding for the campaign came from “ordinary” Britons.
However Searchlight, the organisation which campaigns against the BNP, claimed that the party had exaggerated its resources and was "essentially running a paper campaign".
The accusation was denied by Mr Griffin, who told The Times in May: "The leaflets have gone out, the election broadcasts have been made. It's everywhere. It's a huge campaign."

some of the new officials are even ripping griffin off and making a career out of it. ? the so called officials are skimmimg and not declaring donations to the party and leaving groups potless. leaving the official with more cash to spend on milky bars at the weekend, and these are the new paid freaks of the BNP oh dear now griffin and the members are getting fleeced from within and within, wheres BNP security when they are needed.
From SF moron:
"What annoys me is that ordinary BNP members like myself dip into their pockets to help fund the party, and money is going down the drain. If I hadn't come onto Stormfron I would have known nothing about this, there is nothing on the members forum and I'm sure that nothing will be mentioned in the members bulletin. It might not be a big deal to some people, but £500 quid is a big deal to me!..."
Well, if you rely upon Darby's blog for news you deserve to be treated like a mushroom!
The ordinary rank-and-file of the BNP is a pitiful and pathetic figure, exploited by the BNP to the hilt.
How soon before scales fall from eyes?
Then there will be such a backlash.
Was the donation from the American National Socialist Party one of the didled donations to avoid tax and electoral rules?
Hmmn! Anybody else spot the reference to American Donations ?
Raising money abroad is not legal !
The commission should take action !
Old Sailor
Heh! Simon now blaming either the P.O. or E.C. for this. He used the Recordered Delivery (75p) apparently.
More conspiracy to assuage BNP anger (see SF for the in-fights)
So, a major political party (sic) spends less than £1 to send such docs and does not confirm next day that they've been rec'd? Or use a courier, given it thinks the whole world's against it?
Obviously the BNP soldiers will fall for this bull. Won't they?
Curiouser and curiouser.
Reminds me of someone I once worked with. For years got away with such 'dog ate my homework' excuses but eventually ran out of luck.

Not Happy.
The first sign that there was anything wrong today came from the BBC as a rather exited reporter starts to ask me about late submissions to the Electoral Commission. Some time later the Independent ring me up to state the same to which I responded with exactly the same answer - "Our Q2 donations report was sent in in early July".
On checking the awful publicity generated today I quickly find out that our submission was sent by recorded delivery and after a couple of calls to the Electoral Commission they begin to realise that a mistake is a distinct possibility.
Considering that this appalling commentary has been generated on the face of it because of an administrative error on behalf of the Electoral Commission you might have thought that they would have removed the following from their website:
Peter Wardle, Chief Executive of the Electoral Commission said:
“We have not yet received a donation return for this quarter from the British National Party. This comes on top of their failure to deliver their latest annual statement of accounts to the Commission. This is unacceptable and the party will be issued with fines for both reporting failures. We will also be assessing the systems they have in place to ensure compliance with the law.”
Despite two phone calls late this afternoon the Electoral Commission are still towing the same line. Tomorrow morning if I do not get a satisfactory solution to this problem I am very seriously considering calling in the Metropolitan Police.
Can anyone remember the article attributed to a senior member of the Electoral Commission some few months, possibly years back in which they advocated an electoral system which would "keep the BNP out" or words to that effect. If someone could provide me with a link it would be most useful.
Not happy
Oh dear, well he should have a receipt from that recorded delivery shouldn't he and he should post that receipt online and we should check with the Post Office involved
to make sure it is their cockup and not Simons fault because he has 18 different jobs in the BNP and isn't much good at any of them.
Six JOB DARBY, could not run a piss up in a brewery. Something stinks and the fraud squad should be brought in to investigate where all the hundreds of thousands of pounds have been spent.
