The British National Party has had to cancel a meeting due to be held in Sheffield tonight.
The meeting was set to be at Southey Social Club but, following talks with police, licensing officials, MPs and city councillors, the club has agreed to cancel the event. The club steward was inundated with calls from members of the public unhappy the club
was allowing the BNP to use the venue.
Sheffield Unite Against Fascism was planning to hold a peaceful protest against the BNP before the meeting. Sheffield councillor Jackie Drayton, one of the protesters, said: 'The first battle over and we won – I'm sure there will be more.'
